Participation in 2.1 GHz License AuctionOn 18 October 2012, the National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission (“NBTC”) officially announced that Advanced Wireless Network Company Limited (“AWN”), a subsidiary of AIS, was a winning bidder in the 2.1GHz auction. The spectrum bidding price was Bt14,625mn for 15MHz bandwidth of 2.1GHz with 15 years license validity. To fulfill post auction requirements, AWN has already paid 50% of the bid price.
INTOUCH had a consolidated net profit attributable to owners of the Company of Bt3,467mn, an increase of 37% YoY as higher revenue contribution from AIS. However, the net profit slightly decreased QoQ due to the impairment loss on asset of Mfone. The change of net profit attributable to owners of the Company is described below
• The share of profit of AIS grew by 37% YoY mainly from the continually increased of 6% YoY in voice revenue, 32% rose in non-voice revenue as well as the lower amortization, finance costs, and income tax expense. In addition, there was no goodwill impairment in 3Q12, comparing to 3Q11. The share of profit of AIS also increased by 3% QoQ, thanks to 6% growth in non-voice revenue and no impact from seasonality effect.• Satellite and international businesses operated by Thaicom contributed net loss of Bt44mn, dropped from net profit of Bt7mn in 3Q11 and net profit of Bt47mn in 2Q12. It was mainly from the impairment loss on assets of Mfone. Excluding this impairment loss, Thaicom contributed normalized net profit of Bt42mn, an 539% increase from 3Q11. It was mainly from an increase in sales and services revenue from satellite business under Thaicom 4 and 5. However, the normalized net profit from Thaicom decreased 11% QoQ due to the provision of related expense from sale of Mfone.• The media and advertising reported a loss of Bt47.9mn, mainly arising from ITV provision for interest on unpaid operating agreement fees. The Company recognized 52.92% of ITV’s loss, representing its investment portion.
