In my earlier posts I have covered Mauser Trigger setup, installation and adjustment. In this post I would like to explain about installation of detachable scope ring.

Ring Installation:

Before I begin just a quick note on safety, so remove the bolt and ensure the fire arm is completely unloaded. Put your finger up inside the chamber to reconfirm that there is no live round there. Always make sure that your firearm points to the right direction, always treat it like it is loaded.

Click icon to add picture We are going to do is install the rings and

remove the top caps. These screws are 640 by quarter inch, socket head cat screws (you can get them from any hardware store, always make sure to buy fire treated quality screws).

Use good quality head treated screws as the rings are also treated same way. Here you can see I have kept friction papers into the ring, which needs to be done prior putting scope there.

Click icon to add picture Get a lock screw which sits in the front of the ring

and this locks the cam screw and make sure to keep it loose/ movable. I need to back this cam screw off just about a turn, so it opens wide enough to fit over the dove state tale initially. You will notice at the bottom of the ring there is a recoil lug that's towards the muzzle. We are going to lay the ring on the top of the bridge, lay the recoil rug in recoil recess.

Now make the lever to the locked position. Locked position is either at 3 o'clock or 9 o'clock position, whatever you feel comfortable with. We will run this down until it is snug and it gets torqued to 25 inch pound, hold the lever and torque it.

Click icon to add picture Now we need to snug up the cam screw lock,

that sets the cam screw to place and just make sure it’s not moving and snugged well. Repeat this process until it is fixed well.

Click icon to add picture Now there is an important and critical step that is

required to shoot properly. Just touch and push it back and forth, slight it towards the muzzle and put the lever in the locked position and this makes sure the ring is returned to zero position every single time the gun is used.

On these bolt actions the higher ring is in the back, in this case it the number 4 in the front and

num. 5 in the back, there are some hand guns where taller ring is in the front, some rifles takes the rings the same height, look what you have make sure not to damage your sculp or tube because you have them in the wrong location, always verify that.

Click icon to add picture Now let move the things along a little bit here,

we will repeat the same steps to install the rear bridge what were done to install the front. So the same thing, want to push the base forward when you lock it for the first time, make sure it is good and snug and torqued. I have Establish my eye relief for the scope. I have used the optic leveling kit from weiler that saves a lot of time and lot of questions from the customers

Click icon to add picture There is a gap between the top cap and the

lower part of the ring, make it even on both the sides, there is no need it as cocked, especially if you do it for a customer, you want it to look nice. These kits get torqued to 20 inch pounds, I have installed both the tops caps and I am going to torque these screws, when you torque a screw you want a torque pattern you want to jump in across.

You never torque the screw directly next to it because you get uneven torque. You want to go down nicely , do not over tighten them. We got the install done and keep the cap back.

Click icon to add picture Now you could check it by detaching the scope

setup and reattaching it again. Rotate the levers in the locked position (it's either 3 or 9 O' clock position). The best way to test it, put your scope on sit at the bench and make a test fire. Take the scope off after each shot, it should absolutely give you the same result, if it doesn't take your money back (it is a lifetime guarantee). Be assured that you do not need to buy another set of rings.
