This post o ce in Damascus, VA is located at mile marker 4 3 along the Ap-palachian Trail. Centered around the rituals of a found object, the anticipation of a package, and the communal aspect of coming together, the building was designed to house packages and mail for the AT hikers and the surrounding community. ecause Damascus is a trail town surviving o the income from the hikers, the building was intended as a place for the community to give back to the hikers. This hiker oasis is meant to be a place to serve all the hikers’ needs. AT hikers typically travel in the spring and summer; when the community would be most active at the pavilion. These connected programs and unconventional spaces are meant to aid in the reinterpretation of the typology of a post o ce.
Occupying the southeastern part of the southern water front, these buildings paired together form a central public space in the center forming a bridge be-tween the natural forests behind and the green space in front adjacent to the water’s edge. It relates to the buildings in front, and is connected by green bou-levards to the rest of the development.
The driving concept behind this dense modular living was to create and even smaller module (room) that the larger modules or living units are made of. These mini-modules are the essential rooms that makes up a livable space. Of these is, a kitchen, living room, master-style bedroom, and double-bedroom style module. The idea is that these can be arrange in almost anyway possible, even stacking on top of one another. The modules achieve a connection by all having a zone of space that can be used for storage and as a hallway. This space can be opened up to create a more spacious oor plan, or sealed o to allow a passage into another module(room).

The driving concept behind Crossover was the idea that the palimpsest of the city is layered and mixed, some buildings lucky enough to pass through centuries while other are torn down and remade into something new. The idea is to re-link Trajan’s Market to the ancient insula along Salita del Grillo. This new layer of the palimpsest would be connected to the Museum at Trajan’s Forum and Market. A research space was envisioned, one that could aid both in learning via ancient documents and through the physical study of the area. The entrance to the new space is located along the ancient street that leads from the museum and connects back to it. The cafe space, reception, and restrooms are located in the main core of the building, and gives direct access back to the museum. The main reading space overhangs the existing insula, giving occupants the opportunity to study both historical documents and the existing space at the same time. The combination lecture and conference space is located on the south of the building, giving great views over Trajan’s Market, and of the Victor Emanuel monument as well as one of the largest, thriving open spaces in Rome.

A secret society, born in the shadows beneath the room Edgar Allan Poe once resided in, called for a space. A space needed for meeting in secret and a space for storing the revered literatures. Located in the West Range of the Lawn at the University of Virginia, the space dips into the ground, leaving the views in to and out of the range open for pedestrians and residents alike. A re ecting pool ows from the arcade out, over, and down, creating a ninety foot waterfall seemingly blocking an expansive bookshelf from access. Only a small rift, one door remains in line with Poe’s door, giving access to the collection. The secret entrance to the meeting space is hidden behind a bookcase, keeping the society’s secrets.
The Annual All-College Spring Thing is hosted every year by the University of Tennessee College of Architecture + Design. It was originally planned as a fth year send o week, celebrating their imminent graduation. It has since grown to be a spirit week of sorts to boost college morale during the rst sight of nice weather. The design competition held was loosely based on the idea of ‘back to the basics’, and led to my idea of CMY, the three colors used in any process print (minus K, black). This design won the competition and will be featured in the spring of 2014.

The driving idea behind this chair was the planes of squares forming the abstrac-tion of a bean-bag chair. The main use of this chair would be to casually sit, relax informally, and t in the space the chair provides as the user sees comfortable. The end user was imagined to be a young adult, furnishing a space with com-fortable, modern seating, but could be extended to other user age-groups, and marketed as an artistic chair piece. The setting imagined for this chair was an open-plan loft or apartment with plenty of space around the object so it can both be sat in and viewed from around the room. Also, measuring 3 feet by 3 feet, this is no small chair, so providing ample space will be necessary. The multi-direction of this chair means it can be place along a horizontal wall, or a corner. The angles account for either, and the geometries in the chair would re-enforce the linear wall or the point.
