CCAA NATIONAL SPOTLIGHT OF OUR 2011-12 VARSITY SEASON
The CCAA is a national body of sport that encompasses
five conferences, a hundred member colleges and thousands
of student athletes from across Canada. When a team, athlete
student, coach or administrator is recognized by the CCAA
it is an honour that is acknowledged from coast to coast.
These athletes and coaches have attained a level of greatness
that few others can imagine and for that they will be
remembered for a lifetime.

MEN’S
GOLF 2011 CCAA NATIONAL CHAMPS
After a 2010-11 season that saw the Hawks shatter records and win every major tournament, less was expected of this year’s edition of the golf team. However, with the return of some of the country’s premiere talents, the Hawks once again set the bar for college golf in Canada. At the OCAA championship Humber took four of the top five spots running away with team championship by 32 strokes. Individually Mark Hoffman narrowly edged Adrian Cord by one stroke to take home his second consecutive individual title. Teammate Alex Dumais finished in a tie for third giving Humber Gold, Silver and Bronze. When it came time for nationals Hoffman and Cord once again battled for the individual crown. This time Cord was the one who came out on top beating his teammate by two strokes. Carding those two low numbers made it near impossible for Humber to lose the team title. In the end the men’s team was 22 strokes clear of their nearest competitor. After another dominant season the Hawk’s are beginning to remove any doubt that they are Canada’s top college golf program.

MEN’S
VOLLEYBALL 2011-12 CCAA NATIONAL CHAMPS
For the first time in their history the Humber Hawks stood atop the CCAA Volleyball podium after a dominating season that saw an Ontario team capture the title for the first time in nearly twenty years. The juggernaut Hawks were, at times this season, impossible to stop. They went 23-1 throughout the regular season and playoffs capping their golden campaign with a huge 3-1 victory over Douglas College in the National Finals. With National Player of the Year Terrel Bramwell and perennial OCAA All-Star Andre Brown the Hawks boasted a unique combination of size and power that no other program in the nation could match. Even amidst their abundance of stars Hawk’s Head Coach Wayne Wilkins stressed a team concept. A concept that gave them the nation’s top rank halfway through the season, a rank they would not relinquish again.

WOMEN’S
CROSS COUNTRY 2011 CCAA NATIONAL CHAMPS
Over the past seven seasons the Hawk’s Cross Country program has been a formidable threat at the provincial level but this season they took the leap and became a program of note at the national level. Boasting the OCAA Female Athlete of the Year, the OCAA Coach of the Year and three OCAA First Team All-Stars, the women’s team conquered the OCAA Championships taking three of the top ten spots including the individual Gold by the team’s standout runner Vicky Siemon. The girls then took their show on the road as they arrived in Kamloops, British Columbia for nationals. At CCAA Nationals the Hawks again showed off their skills as Siemon finished in sec-ond place by just three seconds. Amy Walcott, Becky Tindall and Aimee Large finished 16th, 18th and 42nd respectively and that was enough to give the Hawks an outright National Gold Medal in the women’s team category. This was the Hawks first ever national title in Cross Country and Siemon’s silver was the first individual medal for a female runner at nationals in Humber history.

RAY CHÂTEAU 2011-12 COACH OF THE YEAR
In the spring of 2012, Humber’s Head Golf Coach Ray Château was honoured as the CCAA COACH OF THE YEAR across all sports. Before Ray’s arrival, in 2001, the Humber Hawks had never won a national golf title. They now boast twelve, including nine men’s titles and three women’s titles along with thirteen individual national medals. This past season was perhaps the crowning jewel in a hall of fame career as Château led the men’s team to an OCAA title, a CCAA title and an RCGA University/College title. From this amazing season team Canada called upon Ray to coach the national team at the FISU World University Championships. Ray is also the program coordinator of Humber’s Professional Golf Management Program which is widely regarded as one of the top such programs in Canada. With the success of the PGM program and a resume of such length he is able to attract the country’s best golfers which will continue to keep Humber atop the post-secondary golf world.

Women’s Outdoor SoccerIn three years with Humber Keyla Moreno has racked up an impressive amount of accolades. She has been the OCAA scoring champion twice, the OCAA Player of the Year twice, two all Canadian designation and has had a number of team successes including 2 Ontario titles and 2 CCAA Bronzes. This year she took another step to cement her legacy as one of Humber’s soccer greats as she was named the CCAA Player of the Year for Women’s Soccer. This season Keyla notched six goals in eight games during the regular season. In the playoffs she showed how clutch she could truly be as she scored the game winner late in the OCAA semi-finals. In the final she scored the go ahead goal in the penalty shootouts which Humber eventually won to claim their second straight title. Keyla will surely go to the Humber Hall of Fame but this honour will likely have her go down as one of the greatest of all time.
Men’s VolleyballMonths after the final ball hit the floor in Humber’s CCAA Championship winning match; teams across Canada are still wondering how to possibly stop the nation’s top player Terrel Bramwell. Bramwell was nothing short of brilliant in the CCAA tournament collecting MVP honours and setting tournament and match records for kills and points as he led Humber to their first Volleyball National title. During the season there was no one in the vicinity of his kills per set. Terrel averaged 5.67 kills per set, more than twice as many as his next closest competitor. Bramwell was also named the OCAA Player of the Year as well as an All Canadian for the second time. In each of his full seasons with the Hawks he has been the OCAA’s top scorer and this season was no different. 2011-12 will forever be remembered as the year that Humber won their first volleyball national title and everyone will know who the catalyst was that got them there.

THROWBACK NIGHTSThrowback Nights have been introduced to welcome back former members of all teams and all years, support your fellow varsity Hawks, and hopefully run into some of your former Hawk-mates. Look for the new ALUMNI banner that will hang behind the team bench and additional seating at all home games. Remember, Hawk Family is inclusive; basketball, soccer, volleyball, rugby, badminton, hockey, curling, baseball, fastball, cross country and golf. You are
all ONE family to us. Come to any, or as many games as you can!
