Londoners Hit Back...

Anarchy, chaos, pandemonium. For 24 hours last month, when the tube

strikes hit London, the city was in turmoil. It was as if we’d been hit by

terror strikes all over again. Or so the papers tried to have us believe. Yet

in a defiant show of strength, and according to The Evening Standard (the paper

which successfully printed out three whole editions of strike-related stories), Londoners hit back, determined to

show that while the strikers could indeed down tools, they would never win the war.

And in a brave example of the capital’s fighting spirit, one man forked out £80 on a taxi to get to a job which paid

him less than the cab fare. Now correct me if I’m wrong, but surely this particular incident was a case of 1-0 to the

tube strikers? I mean just look at the evidence. Man pays £80 to earn £50. Tube striker gets the day off work to

earn nothing. That’s a win all day long for the striker in my book.

Elsewhere in my book, which I was out and about using to keep score of things, was a second goal for the

tube strikers – even though the papers tried to claim it as an equaliser. It was of course, the case of Gulfsands

Petroleum director, Andrew Rose. For those not in the know, Mr Rose was the middle-aged man who was

pictured riding into work on a scooter in a sharp grey suit and a face like thunder, and whose picture was

subsequently splashed across the front pages.

Mr Rose was highly embarrassed by the incident and later claimed if he’d known he was being pictured, he would

have smiled. Sorry? You’re pictured riding into work on a scooter like a 12-year-old boy and your main concern is

that you weren’t smiling? Surely the fact that you were even pictured on a scooter at all is bad enough. In fact, the

only thing more embarrassing than being pictured riding a scooter is to be pictured riding a scooter with a great big

grin on your face. Next thing we know Mr Rose will be claiming he wished he’d been riding to work on a pair of

roller heeled shoes whilst whistling La Cucharacha.

So after tallying up the score in this epic battle of Man vs. Tube striker, I can officially pronounce the latter as the

unanimous winner, even if they did lose to me. Oh, didn’t I mention how I scored a late consolation goal for the

Londoners striking back?

My oyster card had run out two days earlier, so I wouldn’t have been able to get to work anyway, regardless of the

strike. Looks like the joke was on them then.

Now that we´re up and running smoothly again though, I hope you enjoy our special 3D issue.

May all your profits be large ones.

Three Way To The Flop

U p until the latter part of the 20th century, playing poker was an activity normallyreserved for a Friday night with friends, orif you were brave enough to take the

shackles off your bank account, the Mecca ofgambling, Las Vegas. But in 1998, the way that thegame was played changed forever.

The world’s first online poker room was establishedand suddenly people who had thought poker wassomething you put in a fire were reaching for theirmouses. With the advent of more advanced computertechnology, it seemed the future could only get betterfor the online version of the popular card game. It tookless than a decade for a new era to be ushered in as

the first 3D poker room was created in 2006 asPKR.com released software with unrivalled video gamestyle graphics, which would be a benchmark for takingthe format to the next level.

The industry is now estimated to be worth $6.7billion dollars (£4.3 billion pounds). While businessescollapse around the globe, poker has seemingly beenrecession-proof and has only gone from strength tostrength.

Now it’s not just Lady GaGa who is showing of herPoker Face as people from all walks of life lay theircards on the table in more ways than one.

Daniel Jolly takes a look at the top five UK facing3D poker rooms.
