Continental to Prove Again it’s Commitment to Innovation and Quality Products
On October 4 a Continental Motors Crewleft Kassel, in Germany, to fly to the southern tip of South Africa. Their flying carpet took the shape of one of the latestmodels of the Piper Aircraft Range: ThePiper Archer DX. This single engine fourseater is equipped with Continental MotorsCD-155 compression ignition engine. In layman’s terms, read that this enginedoes not burn the leaded fuel usually usedin general aviation aircraft, but the samefuel as the turbine or jet equipped aircraft. This difference alone made the whole trip possible as avgas is not readily available inregions such as Africa or many countriesoutside of Europe and the USA.
After receiving requests for information fromflight schools located in Africa, it took only a few weeks the crew to organize an AfricaDemo Tour. The tour started from Kassel via Marseille, Calgiari, Malta, Crete, Egpyt to Nairobi, Kenya, where it was introduced to several flight schools along with its Turbo Diesel Engine. The pilots andmechanics there wanted to know everythingabout the engine and the aircraft.
The schools are particularly interested inthe combination of performance and abilityto burn JetA instead of AVGAS. On the performance front, they were impressed bythe liquid cooling system and the safety provided by the turbo compressor thatmaintains the power output level of theengine, even in very hot conditions.
The next morning they had taken off fromthe Kenyan capital, Nairobi, and then flewpast the Serengeti and Kilimanjaro, makinga short stop in Dodoma, the capital of
Tanzania. Via Lilongwe in Malawi and demo flights in Lusaka, Zambia the nextday, the crew landed in Polokwane, in northern South Africa then heading on toLanseria near Johannesburg where the crew arrived on October 17.
In South Africa the trip continued to fly to Cape Town via Bloemfontein and Beaufort with many demo flights.

Route taken by “African Qeen” departing from Kassel-CaldenGermany, to Cape Town.
In 2015 Continental Motors Group Ltd. (CMG), a company of Chinese based AVIC International Holding Corporation, actively walked the path of its declared commitment to offer a full range of aircraft engines, global operations and best service. Leading in product innovation and quality built-in the company recently has presented NiC3 for gasoline engines. Also remote area markets are not forgotten.
The world’s first diesel promotion tour through Africa was performed wheregasoline is hardly available and fuel is a question of fly or not to fly.
NiC3 – the Nickel SiliconCarbide Coation forCylindersContinental Motors new NiC3™ range of premium cylinders for Continental, Titanand Lycoming engines. Continental Motorshas announced the launch of a new rangeof cylinders, available for ContinentalMotors, Titan Experimental and Lycomingengines. These cylinders are treated with aNickel Silicone Carbide coating, offeringcorrosion resistance, reduced friction wearand better cylinder wall hardening.
Continental Motors has made anannouncement recently that could be agame changer for many owner pilots. We all fly much less than we would like toand, apart from our proficiency, there aresome direct consequences on our engines. When we fly, our engines reach the recommended operating temperatures.
These temperatures have been calculatedand tested by the engine manufacturers tobe the ideal range in which the engine willreach its optimum performance. Whileoperated within that temperature range, there is something else that is happening:any moisture or water droplets quicklyevaporate. “Why should there be any moisture and water droplets in myengine?” is a question that we hear often.
The answer is quite simple. When theengine is shut down after a flight, the cylinders are empty, filled with ambient airwhile the engine is still hot. The air coolsdown rapidly, and the humidity in the air condenses inside the engine, creating visible moisture and/or small waterdroplets.
If your engine is flown very regularly (likeengines operated by an aero-club or aflight schools), this moisture doesn’t sitlong enough to create corrosion problems. But if your engine sits for a while beforebeing flown again, you have good chances of seeing corrosion appear inside the cylinders. You also have to take intoaccount the weather conditions. A planethat is kept in a dry or heated hangar willbe less susceptible to this phenomenon. But if your plane is sitting outside, on the
grass, in winter and in rainy conditions, thatwill make things worse.Especially if yourairfield is subjected to maritime influence(yes, that is us, in the UK or the coastalareas of France!). Obviously, steel, waterand salty atmosphere are a good recipe tosee rust appear.
Continental Motors has an answer to theseproblems. Owners/operators that encounterconditions where corrosion could becomea concern, can now opt for the premiumline of Nic3™cylinders.
These cylinders are internally coated withNickel Silicone Carbide. They are availablefor Continental and Lycoming enginesinstalled in certified aircraft. Titan experi-mental engines also can be ordered withNic3™ cylinders. Nickel Silicone Carbidecoating of cylinders has been used for along time in automotive racing and in high-end production cars.
Companies such as Porsche and Suzuki have been using this type of coating ontheir top of the range models and continueto do so today. For General Aviationengines, the main benefits, apart from corrosion resistance, are the reduction offriction wear and the hardening of the steelbarrel. As Nickel Silicone Carbide coating is extremely tough, the wear of the cylinderwalls in also greatly reduced. The coatingcontinues to protect the cylinder walls during the life of the cylinder. “We typicallycan quantify friction wear reduction whenwe measure the cylinders at the end oftheir life cycle.
Nic3™ treated cylinders will probably exhibit wear measured in the region of10/1000th of an inch. Which is significantlyless than what is usually observed on standard steel wall cylinders” says Jürgen Schwartz, Vice-President of engineering, Continental Motors. “Anotheradvantage is that after coating the steelcylinder barrel, the hardness of the cylinderbarrel is increased. All these propertiescontribute to create a new value proposition for our clients. And that’s whatwe are all about: transform technical innovation into value for our clients.”
The Nic3™ range of premium cylinders is available today.

Danish manufacturer of high class helicopterrescue equipment, Lite Flite ApS, has beenrewarded EN9100:2009 certification for itsquality management system. As technicalequivalent to the American AS9100C stan-dard, it makes the small Danish company atrue quality supplier to the aerospace industryand SAR helicopter operators all over theworld.
We have been working with our quality management system for the past two years. One of the greatest challenges has been to figure out, how we could implement thisdemanding standard with its requirements forstrict procedures, and still be able to deliver newproducts to our customers, with a very shortlead time, says Thomas Knudstrup, SeniorProduct Manager and co-owner of Lite Flite.
While being based on the well known ISO9001standard, the lesser known, but very prestigious,AS/EN9100 standard is specifically targeted tosuppliers to the Aviation-, Space- and DefenceIndustries. This includes a very high degree ofsupplier management, full traceability of raw
materials and complete document control. Manyof Lite Flites largest customers within defenceand aerospace, have this certification as arequirement for cooperation.
Helicopter manufacturers like Airbus Helicoptersand Agusta Westland, large civilian operatorslike CHC and Bristow, Air Forces around theworld and all our other customers, will all benefitfrom this certification. While the development ofnew products may take slightly longer due to thehuge amount of paperwork, finished productswill be of the highest quality from the very firstproduction batch, says John Holstein, TechnicalDirector and founder of the company.
LF EN9100:2009 certificate.
Thomas Knudstrup continues: Being listed at the OASIS database as an EN9100 certifiedmanufacturer will open doors to new large customers. It is a vast improvement to our existing Part 145 Maintenance OrganisationApproval. No doubt, the time and money invested in this project will pay off.
Lite Flite has left the old style, paperbased quality manuals. In stead, a Danish developed, online Quality Management System is utilized. This makes the QMS accessible to all employ-ees and ensures that all information is shown in its newest, approved version.

FEATURED COMPANY - JMB AIRCRAFT
The airfield in Amougies was createdas a private airfield in 1968 and takenover by the brother's Guisset in 1980.In 1995 we decided to commercializethe airfield.
Our roots were PPL training, GAmaintenance and glider towing. In1998 we decided to enter the ULbusiness. We sold our six GA planesand invested in new UL planes, especially Rans Coyote S6ES. We bought and built over 25 kits.
The sale of ultralights started in 2008with the arrival of VL-3 which becameour great success. 4 years later, inFebruary 2012, we took over the pro-duction of VL-3 in the Czech Republicand created the JMB Aircraft company. Today the grouphas 60 employees in the Czech Republic and 5 in Belgium.
JMB Aviation, the dealer of VL-3 Evolution for France and Belgium, isbased at the airfield Amougies(EBAM) in Belgium. This private airfield has a runway of610 m, 400m² maintenance work-shop, 3500m² of hangars, micro lightflying school and a restaurant. The airfield Amougies is open 7/7.
About the JMB Aircraft
VL-3 Evolution: the fastest sideby side UL aircraft
With over 20 years of experience inthe flying business, JMB Aircraft redefines ultralights with the VL-3 evolution.
The VL-3 is a sporty, safe and reliabletouring UL, and with over 200 sold in recent years, it is also successful.
The VL-3 travel at high speed and ahigh level. Discover new airportsthroughout Europe, in comfort andsafety. Share new adventures anddestinations. Pilots’ dreams that thehigh-end VL-3 evolution ultralightmakes a reality.
The highly aerodynamic design of thislow-wing aircraft makes it extremelyforgiving on approach.
With a cruising speed up to 145 KTS,a range up to 1 500 NM mil and fuel consumption of 2-4,5 US Gal the VL-3 is the most efficient UL aircraft. The excellent performance was con-firmed with a World speed record of150 KTS average.
Its Belgian owners Jean-Marie and Jean-Baptiste Guisset apply the highest quality standards in both development and production, be itthrough the use of certified parts ortop quality component manufactureusing carbon fibre compositematerials. Rising demand hasprompted JMB Aircraft to expand production capacity by opening another manufacturing facility.
Final assembly line of VL-3 evolution isbeing moved to a new hanger of 2000square meters located next to the former facility. The total area is now4000 square meters. The factory will beable to satisfy more customers nowand reduce the delivery period of VL-3.
New space will be also used by the research and development departmentof JMB Aircraft in order to maintaincontinuous improvement of our product and support future projects.
JMB Aircraft is searching for new dealers
With the expansion of the production capacity in the Czech Republic to 50 aircraft per year and a wider sales network in Europe, JMB Aircraft isnow searching for long term trustablepartners who has experience in maintenance, flight training and a basic knowledge of avionics. We want to help customers today not tomorrow.
JMB Aircraft s.r.o. is the new production company of the VL-3. The driving force behind this new company are brother's Guissetwho have more than 22 years experience in aviation as owner of aBelgian private airfield with a large flight school, maintenance andVL-3 repair facilities.

AIR RACINGInside the Red BullAir Race World Championship- Las Vegas Race Review from Michael Goulian
The final stop forthe 2015 Red BullAir Race WorldChampionship sizzled with excitement andadrenaline asstormy skies andhigh winds set the scene for race day at theLas Vegas Motor Speedway.
Top contenders Paul Bonhomme and Matt Hallhad no problem flying their way from the Roundof 14 into the Round of 8, as their speed couldnot be beat. Being the fastest loser in the Roundof 14 put Michael Goulian in the Round of 8,where he was pitted against the speed ofYoshihide Muroya. Goulian flew perfectly, butYoshihide finished his run with one of the fastesttimes of the day – leaving him in 6th place.
“The race in LasVegas may havebeen one of themost challengingones for strate-gizing and flyingour best plan.
The weather pattern was really sketchy throughout the entire session with dramatic windchanges and the rain. We had our new enginedialled in, and our times improved the entireweek, which was really great. All in all, I think we wrapped up the season on a high note withthis strong 6th place finish!” commentedGoulian. His final standing for the 2015 seasonwas 10th place.

PDGsigned for an Airbus H135 to support its PDG’sservice contract with the General LighthouseAuthorities. The Yorkshire Air Ambulancealso ordered an H145 helicopter, highlighting the public services dimension of HelitechInternational.
Yorkshire Air Ambulance order signing with Airbus Helicopters.
Other major announcements included DavidPlester of Babcock Mission Critical Servicesformally handing over the first upgraded EC135T2+ helicopter to West Yorkshire Police andCrime Commissioner Mark Burns-Williamsonand the UK National Police Air Service(NPAS). Bell Helicopter announced it is addinga service and support centre in Germany, furtherexpanding its European footprint, while USbased Aviation Specialties Unlimited selectedSpecialist Aviation Services as its dealer andservice centre for the UK and Ireland.
This year’s static displays provided an impressive visual element to the event includinga Guimbal Cabri G2 from Helicentre, aRobinson 44 Raven II from A2B Aero, anAS350 from AS Aerospace, an Airbus H135 aSikorsky S-76 from Air Harrods and a Bell 429which also took visitors up on flights during theshow.
The Education Programme returned to provide acritical thought leadership pillar for industry anddelegates. Day one’s Business & StrategyConference was expanded this year to includetwo Focus On sessions on UAVs and offshorewind farms. The question around whether UAVsand helicopters can co-exist was raised, as thenumber of commercially available UAVs is risingquickly. The wind farm element included a market outlook that determined the sector isgrowing healthily as the grid expands. As installations move further afield there hasbeen increased demand for medium to heavyhelicopters. Some of the key challenges associated with servicing wind farms from the air were illustrated in engaging video presentations, while other issues were raisedsuch as ensuring there are adequate rules inplace to ensure safe offshore operations.
The Business Leaders Forum, the morning’ssection of the Business and StrategyConference, saw an expert panel cover important issues facing the industry, and providea market outlook for the next 5-10 years.Significantly, the global drop in oil prices wasdiscussed and revealed to be having an adverse effect on demand for rotorcraft, with a consequent fall in production. However this wascounter balanced by growth opportunities in theHelicopter Emergency Medical Services(HEMS) and Search & Rescue (SAR) sectorsthat have helped maintain the overall health ofthe industry. Emerging markets such as Chinaalso offer potentially huge business opportunities.
The popular Safety Workshop.
The EHA Rotorcraft Seminars on day twofocused on key issues affecting operators.Topics included crew fatigue, offshore safety, and rotorcraft operations at airports. The finalday of Helitech International was reserved forone of the most important aspects of the rotor-craft industry: safety. Proceedings in the eventspopular Safety Workshop included a keynotefrom the celebrated Captain Eric ‘Winkle’Brown, the Fleet Air Arm’s most decorated pilot.Helitech International 2016 will be held atAmsterdam RAI from 11 – 13 October 2016.

FEATURED COMPANY - PIPER DEUTSCHLAND AG (PIPER GERMANY GROUP)
How it all began:
Wilfried Otto had his first trial flight at the age of 25. Eight dayslater he purchased his own personal airplane and 6 months laterhe had his Private Pilots Licence. The Commercial Pilots Licence, Instrument Rating and Flight Instructor qualification followed shortly thereafter. Since then he is driven by his passion for flying, having flown more than 7000 flight hours in command. “Today I am probablylonger in the general aviation industry than anyone else” says Wilfried Otto.
To finance his hobby Wilfried Otto establishedan aircraft charter company, Lahnflug Wilfried Otto. In 1970 his company was appointed as a Piper Dealer by Henschel Flugzeugwerke in Kassel who were the authorised Piper Distributor since 1968.Based on the success and achievements of Lahnflug, Henschel Flugzeugwerke appointed Wilfried Otto as theManaging Director of the business division “Piper Aircraft” in 1975.
Wilfried Otto had a clearvision of the Piper Distributorship for the future and set a new approach. Under hismanagement the aircraftparts operations weresignificantly expanded. The following years werethe best in General Aviation. In the late1970's Piper Germanysold approximately 150Piper aircraft every year.
The market for new aircraft collapsed in the 1980's and therewere several changes in the ownership of Henschel Flugzeugwerke. In 1983 MBB, the owner of the Piper BusinessDivision, placed the Piper Business on the market to sell. Wilfried Otto then acquired the business through a Management/Employee Buy Out together with former employees and Piper Dealers. Since then the company has continuously grown by consistently providing a first class service to customers. In 1985 the company built its own facilitiesat Kassel Airport. In 1986 the company went public and hasbeen listed on the stock exchange since then.
In 1998 the company constructed a second building for aircraftmaintenance and service.
New Buildingin 2013After the stakeholders ofKassel Airportsigned a memorandum of understandingto upgrade the airport, Piper Germany purchased 14,500 sqm land right next to the tower at the new airport and constructed a state of the artbuilding of 3,600 sqm in size for aircraft sales, aircraft parts supply, aircraft maintenance and service under one roof. In Spring 2013 the new airport was opened. Piper Germany relocated to the new airport with its entire operations in summer2013 and continued in the tradition of owning the land and buildings. Kassel is located in the heart of Germany and is oneof the fastest growing economic regions in the centre of Europe.
Piper Deutschland AG opened its doors to welcome business partners, customers and friends to celebrate several milestonesachieved in the company history.

TURBINE NEWS 1 DECEMBER2015
With a few more than 225 produced, thePiaggio Avanti P180/Avanti I, with its one-of-a-kind design, has evolved into one of thebest buys in today’s entry-level aircraft market, notes Marj Rose.
Speed, agility, efficiency and cabin comfort makethe distinctive Piaggio P180 a perfect fit formany, but it hasn’t been an easy road for thecurrent aftermarket fleet. The largest single operator of the Avanti fleet was the now dissolved Avantair, operating with 57 Avanti aircraft at its peak.
The fractional provider was launched in 2003and operated the Piaggio Avanti exclusively.Avantair monopolized the Piaggio Avanti deliveries for several years as the company grewby leaps and bounds and went public in 2007.But by 2012, Avantair voluntarily grounded itsfleet because of an elevator issue and in 2013,with serious maintenance issues that most of uswill have read about, Avantair ceased operationsand declared bankruptcy.
In January 2014, there was an auction to sell offall the assets, while many lawsuits were filed. So that brings us to the aircraft’s aftermarketlandscape of today, and with all the negativepublicity, John Koltes, Founder and President,Jet Trader Group and Piaggio Avanti pilot, feelsthe aircraft is misunderstood by many in theindustry, and that sometimes prospective buyersdon’t give it fair consideration.
“The Avanti owners I have spoken to and flownwith over the years love the aircraft,” Koltesnotes. “But soon after it was introduced, the fastgrowing Avantair took the majority of the aircraftoff the production line for its fractional business. They were flying many more hours than the aircraft was designed for, so replacement partsand keeping up with maintenance became ahuge challenge for them.
NEW AIRCRAFTGulfstream G500 Surpasses100 Flight HoursGulfstream’s G500 has achieved several flighttest milestones, including surpassing morethan 100 hours of flight. The accomplishmentscome just 12 months after the all-new G500and G600 aircraft programmes wereannounced.
As of October 13, the G500 flight test aircraft had successfully completed more than45 missions, thelongest of those being5 hours and 22 minutes for a total aircraft flight time ofmore than 100 hours. In the five months sincethe aircraft’s first flight,it has reached an altitude of 38,500 feet/11,735 metres and amaximum airspeed of Mach 0.80.
“It’s just really exciting to see how well this aircraft is performing,” enthused Dan Nale, senior vice president, Programmes, Engineeringand Test, Gulfstream. “This plane has been flying exactly as expected, which highlights our commitment to quality and our attention todetail… Our test pilots have said the aircraft’shandling qualities are exceptional.”
The G500 flight-test and certification programme includes four test aircraft. Each isused for a specific series of tests, with the first aircraft (T1) focused on flight performance andflight controls, the second (T2) on flight loadsvalidation, the third (T3) on avionics, and thefourth (T4) on human factors and supportingsystems.
The programmealso includesone aircraft witha fully outfittedinterior to validate thefunctionality and compatibilityof various cabinsystems whenused at altitude.
Together, the G500 and G600 programs haveaccomplished more than 39,000 hours of labtesting. Gulfstream anticipates certification of theG500 in 2017, with entry into service in 2018.The G600 certification is slated to follow in 2018,with entry into service in 2019.

“It wasn’t that the aircraftrequired more mainte-nance than any typical turboprop aircraft, it wasthe way the majority of the fleet was being operated that created aparts shortage and additional challenges forPiaggio Aerospace, the manufacturer. And that iswhere I think this aircraftmay have received an
unjustified reputation in the industry as a maintenance monstrosity.”
New DawnAs the water passes under the bridge on thischapter for Piaggio Aerospace the future looksbrighter with new majority owners, Mubadala, and a new third generation Avanti named EVO.The service and support concerns from theAvantair era has been replaced with anenhanced commitment to customer service and a worldwide network of authorized MRO facilities.
There is no doubt that the loyal Piaggio Avanticustomers will be taking a hard look at the additional amenities that the new EVO aircraftoffers, including greater range and more speed.By the end of this year, approximately 30 of thePiaggio Avanti aircraft from Avantair should berecertified and flying again, and all of this happened within a relatively short period of time. This was no easy accomplishment, and itdemonstrates the dedication Piaggio Aerospacehas for the aircraft’s future and to the customerswho own and operate them, Koltes claims.
Many Avanti fractional owners went throughlengthy processes, after the Avantair bankruptcyto become whole owners because of their positive experience operating this aircraft.“The Piaggio Avanti following is loyal, and theyhave a thorough understanding of the aircraft’spotential that I hope will translate across ourindustry,” Koltes summarizes. “A pre-ownedPiaggio Avanti should be given great considera-tion by so many buyers right now. Owner’s get toexperience great manufacturer support; a cabinsize similar to a Learjet 60; the speed of aCitation CJ2; and the efficiency of a King Air 300– all for a fraction of the cost of a new aircraft. The Piaggio Avanti is a heck of an airplane!”

MARKET FORECASTBizAv Activity - Europe
Map A: Flight Departures Across Europe.
There were 72,640 Business Aviation flightdepartures in Europe during September 2015according to WingX. This was slightly morethan in August, but 4% down on last year, andtakes the YTD trend for 2015 to -1.4%.
Business Aviation activity in Europe relapsed inSeptember. The decline in the CIS market continued to sap the market, but in addition, flight activity was significantly down in the UK,Switzerland, Italy and Spain (see Map A). This may reflect the torrid financial markets andthe darkening prospects for the global economyin the last couple of months.
Western Europe, relatively speaking, was themost resilient region, down -2% but holding itsown YTD. Southern European activity contractedsharply this month. Inbound traffic from theMiddle East, US, Africa and CIS was down.
The summer’s leisure activity has also been softer this year. There are still a few bright spots.Ultra-long range activity continues to grow, thesuper-midsize segment is reinvigorated with newaircraft, and the Phenom light jets are in greatdemand.
Business jet activity nose-dived this month, - 8%down YOY. Turboprop flights fell slightly, whilepiston flights were up (especially AOC missions).Almost all the top 20 airports in Europe saw adecline in activity this month. Le Bourget had the largest drop, along with Ciampino andFarnborough. Vnukovo activity was substantiallyreduced. Biggin Hill and Oxford were up.

FAA signs STC agreementswith EASA and TCOn September 15, the Federal AviationAdministration (FAA) signed agreements withtwo international regulatory partners, theEuropean Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and Transport Canada (TCCA) that allow theauthorities to rely on each other’s regulatorysystems. The agreements will eliminate duplicate processes, get safety enhancingequipment installed on aircraft more quickly, and save time and money for both industryand the regulatory authorities involved.
Strong partnerships are a key to consistent safety standards around the world. Based onmore than a decade of FAA cooperation withEASA and over fifteen years with TCCA, theagencies have established confidence in eachother’s regulatory systems. Rooted in that confidence, the new safety agreements allowreciprocal acceptance of the majority ofTechnical Standard Order (TSO)-approved articles. This change benefits U.S., Canadian, and European aerospace industries organiza-tions by eliminating the need for applications, additional validation and administrative review by each party.
The new agreement with EASA also facilitatesacceptance of the classification for basicSupplemental Type Certificates (STC’s). An auditprocess will ensure that technical classificationscontinue to meet established criteria, and makesure standards are being met.

NEW PRODUCTRotorcorp becomesofficial Helicopter Easy Wheels distributorYou can hate them, but you gotta’ have them. You have probably bought more than one setof costly ground handling wheels for yourRobinson Helicopter over the years and havelikely felt that you are not quite getting yourmoney’s worth.
The groundhandling wheelmarket is flooded with variations of the same old pneumatic tire wheels which are tolerable (at best)for rough terrain and grass. However, inflatedwheels really fall short on hangar floors and pavedsurfaces where typical operators maneuver helicop-ters around most often. Finally, a set of wheels hasbeen created for the rule rather than the exception –Helicopter Easy Wheels.
Designed by Dutch Engineer and Robinson pilotFred Willems, Helicopter Easy Wheels are sleek, light and robust. Custom made for the RobinsonR22, R44 and R66 the solid urethane wheels drasti-cally reduce rolling resistance on hard surfaceswhile eliminating the constant prospect of a flat tyre.

UAV – DRONESAAMS states its position on drones
UAV Drone.
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles/Systems(UAV/UAS) may be known by a number ofnames, to include model aircraft, drones, orremote-piloted aircraft (RPA).
UAV/UAS operators include aviation hobbyists,as well as commercial operators who wish touse new and emerging technology in more creative ways to satisfy consumer demand. As such, the Association of Air Medical Services(AAMS) believes that a set of regulatory requirements (visit website), would allow for integration of UAV/UAS into low-level airspacewhile optimizing the safety and privacy of emergency personnel and patients in need ofassistance:
Emergency responders, on the ground and inthe air, are discovering the presence of UAV/UASwith increasing frequency, creating unique safetyand operational concerns. The ability of pilotedaircraft to see small UAV/UAS in ample time toavoid them cannot be presumed. UAV/UAS aresimply too small, are often traveling too fast, andare virtually invisible. Therefore, the responsibilityto see and avoid must also rest with theUAV/UAS operators and reasonable separationrequirements must be established.

UK – Rooftop helipadplanned for Manchesterhospitals
As part of National Air Ambulance Week (21-27 September) Central ManchesterUniversity Hospitals NHS Foundation TrustCharity (CMFT Charity) launched its new £3.9million Charity Appeal to build a dedicated helipad on site at the Trust.
Using the strapline, ‘Time Saves Lives’, the HelipadAppeal will enable the creation of a brand-new 24-hour access primary helicopter landing site, thefirst of its kind in central Manchester. This will allowthe Trust to save many more lives and will increasethe chances of a full or improved level of recovery in a great many seriously ill or injured patients.Located on the roof of the new multi-storey car park
on Grafton Street, the helipad will be connected tothe hospitals by a high-level link bridge and roof topcorridor. Currently, the Trust relies upon a secondarylanding site in a nearby park an arrangement whichmeans that patients initially transported by air ambulance must then be transferred the final mile of their journey by land ambulance.
