Offer Code: CDVI509 Ancy Dsouza a Social worker from India worked for four years at Cultural Academy for Peace. She holds a Masters Degree in Social Work. This workshop is designed to give you a good understanding of the ‘Indian’ culture. It will shed light on some of the historic and contemporary social, economic and political forces that impact Indian women and men; and how these forces shape attitudes, behaviours and worldview. You will learn practical cross cultural communication and engagement skills needed to work with Indian women. Understanding these factors will help you to develop strategies that will help adequately meet the need of Indian women affected by domestic violence. September 30 2015 1.00pm to 4.00pm COMMUNICATION: Effective use of interpreters Offer Code: EUOI1509 Enaam Oudih, Practice manager of the PEACE Multicultural Services at RASA. This workshop will be delivered by highly skilled legal education officers who have extensive experience of working with CALD communities around legal matters. They will bring to you not only the cultural aspect of how you could engage better with CALD women but will address how to prepare evidentiary statements for 1410 provision. October 21 2015 1.00pm to 4.00pm THE LAW: Domestic Violence, CALD Clients And The Law Offer Code: DVCL1510 Chief Justice David Berman is the Chief Judge of the Family Court. Connie Mittiga from Women’s Legal Service SA is a Solicitor who specialises in migration law. Emily Rutherford is a Migration Lawyer at the Legal Services Commission. This workshop will use true scenarios to unpack the do’s and don’ts when responding to CALD women and their children affected by DV.

Guest Speaker: Dr Lydia Mungherera is a medical doctor from Uganda who is living with HIV. She shares her story of empowerment all over the world and also addressing the issues of stigma and discrimination.

This event is aimed at bringing together NAHA funded service providers and workers in an informal networking event to facilitate relationship building and engagement within the sector.
