  • Research 2/4Brief 12: Milestone Cards

    Research

As both of these birthdays are landmarks to reach in a persons life, gold was the signature colour chosen for both of the cards. Research involved looking into how gold is used across different printing techniques, and what is possible to do by hand. Pattern

and decorative typography were the two main research areas, as the combination of the two creates a luxurious aesthetic which can be associated with achievement.

  • Ideas and Development 3/4Brief 12: Milestone Cards

    Ideas

The two techniques chosen were lino cutting and foiling. This was because foiling is rich and decadent, but can add subtle details to a design. Lino cut has an organic quality and uniqueness that can only be achieved by hand. Both of these processes are very different, but the common colour ties them together. Designs were developed according to what is possible with each process, which is why the 50 was drawn out backwards.

    Development

Different patterns were trialled in order to test out how well they worked with the number. The number is the main focus in both designs as it is the point of celebration.

    Final Cards

Both cards are quite different, but have a common colour and typeface to unite them. The hand crafted nature of each card means that there are slight imperfections but this adds to the overall character.
