How effective is the combination of your main media product and your ancillary texts?

When researching music videos combined with digipaks we noticed that often there was similarities linking both the digipak and the music video, keeping a sense of continuation. This was a convention that we attempted to include in our products so that our audience could relate to our products and group the together instantly, which would start a brand image.

We identified that often brands and artists will keep at least one if not more of a continuous theme throughout all of there media products. This was something that we attempted to use in our products. We noticed that one way in which these products achieved continuity was the use of the same type of font on each product. This is a convention we used on our products, we used a rather simple font but we found it stood out against our backgrounds, we didn’t want to use a contrasting font as we felt it would clash against each other.

Same Font used for both Digipak and poster.

On our album cover we used a silhouette outline of the band but still maintained the star background that was in our digipak. We felt this made it stand out while still maintaining to continuity. This allowed our audience to easily make a link between the products and start the development of a brand identity. Another way that we kept continuity between our products was by using the same location for the images of the inside cover, poster and the narrative aspects of the music video. We also used the same style of clothing throughout of products, this was another form of continuation.

Same location kept through out (from left) digipak, poster and music video

Another way we kept strong continuity was by using the same editing techniques by using a ‘washed out’/ ’vintage’ look as we felt this suited the genre of our music video. We then applied text over some of our images to make the combination more effective.
