This is Elmira’s first win against Hartwick since January 29th, 2010. Danielle Cleary ’18 led the EC women with 16 points, five assists, three re- bounds, and two steals against the Hawks. EMPIRE 8 ROOKIE OF THE WEEK Danielle Cleary ’18 has been named the Empire Rookie of the Week for her efforts last week. This is the second consecutive week she has been tabbed with the honor and the fifth time this season. She is now tied for first with the most E8 Rookie of the Week Accolades since the 2010-11 season. Courtney Tennant of Rochester Institute of Technol- ogy registered the identical amount in the 2010-11 season. NEARING THE TOP-10 Alex Balara ’15 upped her career assist total to 176 last weekend. She is now 11th in the EC women’s basketball career assists list, just one away from entering the top-10. With four assists tomorrow, she will move into a sole possession of eighth place. SOMETHING’S GOT TO GIVE Both Elmira and Nazareth are in the top-three in both three-point field goal percentage and three-point field goal percentage defense in the Em- pire 8 Conference. The Golden Flyers are first in Empire 8 in three-pointer percentage at 34.5 percent while the EC women are right behind at 34.2 percent. Nazareth also holds the top-spot in three-point field goal defense, holding their opponents to just 25.4 percent of their shots while the Pur- ple and Gold are in third, allowing 26.1 percent of their opponents shots to fall. Cleary has averaged 15.2 points per game to rank sixth in the Empire 8 Conference while Balara pours in 13.5 points per contest to rank 10th.
three tOp-15 reBOuNDersElmira is the only school in the Empire 8 Conference with three players inside the top-15 in rebounds per contest. Leading the Soaring Eagles is Meghan Loya ’16 who ranks fourth, averaging 8.6 boards a game while Karli Pochkar ’16 takes down an average of 6.4 per game to rank 11th. Alex Balara ’15 also ranks in the top-15 as she is 13th in the conference with an average of 6.1 rebounds per contest.
geisLer’s heLpiNg haNDKelsey Geisler ’15 averaged 3.5 assists per game last weekend and now has a season average of 3.8. This is good enough to rank her first in the Empire 8 Conference in assists per game. She also ranks fifth in the conference in assist-to-turnover ratio with 1.0 per game.
eC BLOCkiNg shOtsThe Purple and Gold also have two players in the top-10 in blocked shots per game in the Empire 8 Conference. Meghan Loya ’16 and Danielle Cleary ’18 both average 0.9 blocks per contest to rank tied for fifth in the conference.
BaLara With the piCk pOCketAlex Balara ’15 continues to wreak havoc on the defensive end as she averaged 3.0 steals per game last weekend. She now has a season average of 3.2 per game, which ranks tied for first in the Empire 8 Conference in steals per game.
a game Of threesThis matchup will feature the two top three-point shooters in the Empire 8 Conference. Veronica Peck of Nazareth leads the Empire 8 in three-pointer percentage with 39.2 percent while Danielle Cleary ’18 is right behind Peck making 36.7 percent of her shots from downtown.
aLL-time vs. the gOLDeN fLyersNazareth holds the all-time advantage over the Purple and Gold at 38-20 all-time record. However, the Soaring Eagles have won the previous two contests, sweeping Nazareth in the 2013-14 season.
sCOutiNg NazarethThe Golden Flyers enter the contest with an 8-6 record and a 3-2 mark inside the Empire 8 Conference. Nazareth also enters the contest drop-ping the two of their last three contests. Lindsey Kelly and Sam Sorge leads the Golden Flyers offensively with 14.9 and 13.0 points per game, respectively. Veronica Peck sets up the offense with 3.7 assists per game while Kelly pulls down a team-leading 8.4 rebounds per contest.
