FEW FIRE FACTS FROM FRIENDS

Central Nyack FD has a “Truck 4”? During Feb. 1910 they were organizing what was Tuxedo Hook & Ladder. Fire historians say it was “short-lived” and was gone in the 1920’s. Based “North of the Turnpike” (now 59), up Mountain View Ave., (where now the NYS Thruway cuts thru). See K. T. Wanamaker for details

******* In NYS there is $200 “refund” credited for being an active volunteer firefighter. Check with your CPA Tax Preparer to get your money.

******* Sadly we report the death on Feb. 12, at age 94 of Arthur J. Corsner. A Life Member of the RCVFA, he joining in 1970 from Volunteer Hose Co.1, Suffern, where he was an Asst. Chief. Arthur was a WW II US Army veteran, actively singing God Bless America at American Legion functions. Our condolences go to his family, including 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson, David. He was married 71 years.

ATTENTION ALL FIRE CHIEFS AND PRESIDENTS George Cich of Spring Valley and Rich Silverberg of Hillcrest have desperately been trying to keep the (LODD) FALLEN FIREFIGHTERES MEMORIAL ASSOC afloat and viable for the FIREFIGHTERS of Rockland County for the past few years. Unfortunately we have had little or no success in trying to build a group of firefighters who are able to respond to emergencies when needed. We have ONLY (4) Four meetings a year---,or actually the FIFTH TUESDAY of any month-Jan 29th (Gone) APRIL 30TH, JULY 30TH, OCTOBER 29TH, DECEMBER 31st (Cancelled). The only other times we might meet are in case of an emergency. We meet at the FTC at 19:30 Hours. We ask, almost beg you to choose, appoint, or ask somebody from your department to come to represent you at our meetings. They are short and hopefully informative. Thank you

FROM THE

FIRE COORDINATOR’S OFFICE

We have had some tough calls recently but as always the volunteer fire service in Rockland responded to the

challenges well. If your department does experience a traumatic call please remember to contact the County's

Critical Incident Stress Team if need be. This team is made up of volunteers from the fire service, EMS, PD and

our friends in Mental Health. The team can be contacted via 44 Control or the Office of Fire & Emergency

Services.

This Sunday, March 10th, is Daylight Savings. Hopefully we will see the Change Your Clock - Change Your

Battery campaign. But we cannot rely on just that short campaign. We experienced the devastation that a lack of

smoke detectors causes and we have experienced the many success stories when the detectors were in place.

Please take this time to talk with your neighbors, or anyone who will listen, on the value of smoke detectors. They

truly do save lives.

Our Youth Academy seems to be very successful this year. The format was changed from Friday evenings /

Saturday days over six weeks to the week of March 25th during the day. Many schools are off this week and we

are approaching 50 young men and women that have an interest in the fire and EMS fields. As successful as this

change has been we are also experiencing a shortage of TOG. So if your department has surplus TOG please

contact our office immediately.

As we enter the Holiday Days for many of our friends the staff at the OFES wishes you and your families a

truly safe, blessed and spiritual rewarding holiday.
