LOS ANGELES — When Robert Redford first acquired the film rights to Bill Bryson’s memoir “A Walk in the Woods,” he knew exactly who he wanted to play his Appalachian Trail hiking comrade: Paul Newman.

Not only were the two men responsible for some of cinema’s most iconic duos — they were lifetime friends as well.

But the 11-year age difference was starting to become a problem. Newman, whose health was in decline, was afraid he wouldn’t be up for the physical challenges of the role. When Newman died in 2008, the project nearly died, too.

And then The Sundance Kid met Nick Nolte.

However strange it might sound for two contemporaries with long-running careers, Nolte and Redford didn’t actually know one another.

“I liked him as an actor. You could see that he had an undisci-plined side in life,” said Redford.

Redford cast Nolte in his 2012 political thriller “The Company You

Keep,” they hit it off, and “A Walk in the Woods,” out next Wednesday, came off the shelf again.

Nolte was actually a better fit for the part of Stephen Katz anyway — Bryson’s messy, out of shape, ex-friend who accompanies him on a misguided trek on the 2,160-mile footpath.

“Our backgrounds were very similar before I got my act together. I got my act together somewhere along the line, but earlier in my life I was a mess — undisciplined, out for adventure and risk. I pulled it together, but I could identify with that part of Nick,” said Redford.

Director Ken Kwapis said in the rehearsal process the two actors used their own personal histories to fill in the gaps of their characters.

“Part of the pleasure of watch-ing Bob and Nick is reflecting on their respective filmographies. On one hand, the film is about moving forward in life, but on the other, it’s about two guys taking stock of where they are in life,” said Kwa-pis. (ap)

EvEry Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc.

The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is considered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always hap-pens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion.

The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully ar-ranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines.

In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbul-umbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

Balinese Temple Ceremony

The festive award ceremony was attended by many leading Bali tourism and hospitality figures, together with a contingent from the Bali Safari & Marine Park that included General Manager William Santoso, Show & Entertainment Manager Wellah Hatta and Rooms Division Manager – Mara River Lodge - Sumitra Jaya who were all called to the stage as their winning award category was announced. Also called to the stage were the leading roles from the Bali Agung Show – King Jayapangus, Princess Kan Cing Wei and the Goddess of the Lake, who came forward both in character and full theatrical costume to accept the award on behalf of more 250 cast members, musicians and crew.

The Bali Tourism Awards are an initiative of the Indonesian Travel and Tourism Award – an awards pro-gram operated over the past five years to acknowledge achievement and excellence in Indonesia’s national tourism and hospitality industry.

The inaugural launch in 2015 of the Bali Tourism Awards demonstrates the Island’s tourism industry has truly come into its own due to its world-class range of supporting facilities. For this reason, Bali has also become a model for other tourism destinations across Indonesia.

The names of more than 150 companies involved in tourism and travel in Bali were placed in nomination for the 2015 Bali Tourism Awards. Some 35,320 votes were cast on-line from interested parties around the world who were asked to evaluate both product qual-ity and service standards. The selection process was weighted 25% based on on-line votes, 50% based on appraisals by an Independent Board of Advisors drawn from industry experts, and 25% on input from a Bali Tourism Award research partner.

Commenting after leaving the Bali Tourism Awards with three separate awards in hand, William Santoso, General Manager of the Bali Safari & Marine Park said:

“This latest recognition underlines the consistent and unwavering commitment of the Park’s professional s t a f f o v e r the course of the past eight years t o a l w a y s place quality and service f i r s t . BSMP wins triple honors at BTANUSA DUA – Bali Safari & Marine Park

(BSMP) has once again proven its leadership position among quality tourism products on the Island of Bali by winning three separate awards at the gala presentation of the Bali Tourism Awards (BTA) held at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Centre. The three awards pre-sented to the Bali Safari & Marine Park were for Best Leading Theme Park, Best Leading Theme Park resort for the Mara river Lodge and Best Leading Tourism Show for the Bali Agung Show.

is what makes the difference at the Park. This undying team efforts has brought us success and will continue to do so in the years to come.”

Suardita explained that obtain-ing a housing loan (KPR) from the banks is not done by snapping ones fingers. Down payments of ten per-cent are only applicable for the first time home owner and the maximum loan value is under IDR 1 billion for building that fall under type 70 or lower. Suardita added that the policy has not been able to prevent the price of land from going up and land prices will likely continue to rise because land owners have already set very high prices. Moreover, speculators who bought land at a high price, will not want to sell low. “This makes the price of land remain high and even to go up,” he said.

Nowadays, the property business remains stagnant, especially for large value transactions. Suardita is however optimistic that residential

homes, priced under IDR 500 million will remains sellable because many people can in fact afford to live in them, and they are not being used for money laundering. “It is becoming more difficult for corruptors to launder money in Bali, because transactions are being more tightly monitored. As developers, we must report any cash transactions that exceed IDR IDR 50 million, to INTRAC. This is one way to filter out illegal transactions,” said Suardita, a developer from Tabanan.

Legal advisor, Nyoman Pasek, also recognizes that corruptors feel com-fortable and safe laundering money in Bali. “Actually, this has been going on for a long time but only recently have a handful of cases been revealed,” he said.

Corruptors or illegal entrepreneurs who commit money laundering on

this island, feel safe because Balinese cultural norms dictate that people mind their own business and not disturb others. This cultural habit is exploited by money launderers and others. “The widespread practice of money laundering can be seen by the number of properties in strategic loca-tions, whose owners and their source of income, are unclear,” said Pasek.

He added that Bali is even more famous than Indonesia so many inves-tors are competing to buy property here. “Now it is time for Balinese people to become more vigilant and selective about which investors can buy land here. Both those buying the land as well as those selling land are subject to criminal charges if the money used to buy the land is from the proceeds of corruption or illegal activities,” he concluded. (rah)

Bali’s Chief Representative of the Bank of Indonesia (BI) , Dewi Setyowati, said that the loosening of provisions is based on the fact that the property and motor vehicle sectors are connected and have considerable impacts on other economic sectors. “Therefore, the influence of the loosening of loan regulations is expected to boost economic growth,” said Dewi Setyowati.

In addition, the policy is expected to encourage banking mediation in the distribution of loans to the public. The new policy is set out in the BI ‘s Regulation No.17/10/PBI/2015 on Loan to Value ratio and Fi-nancing to Value ratio for loans for the financing of properties and the down payments for loans for motor vehicles. The regulation will come into effect as of June 18, 2015.

Bali’s sluggish real estate business is also evident from the development of bank loan distributions to home owner-ship in the second quarter of 2015 which shoes a trend towards slowing down with a growth rate of 6.75 percent (year of year / yoy) with a

nominal value of IDR 11.11 trillion. This is lower than the previous quarter which saw growth rates of 12.54 percent (yoy) with a nominal value of IDR 10.98 trillion.

The distribution of bank loans for all types of residen-tial homes is also experienc-ing a slowdown. Residential homes up to type 21 have experienced negative growth at minus 1.94 percent (yoy) with a nominal value of IDR 3.17 trillion. This growth is also lower than the previous quarter that showed a positive growth of 3.25 percent (yoy). “For a residential home (type 22 to type 70), the loan distribution in the second quarter of 2015 reached IDR 3.64 trillion -an increase of 8.92 percent (yoy), but it is lower than the growth rate of the previous quarter that was 11.73 percent (yoy),” explained Setyowati.

Meanwhile, loan distribu-tions for residential homes of type 70 and upwards, she said, reached IDR 3.82 trillion or grew by 14.89 percent (yoy). This value is lower than the previous quarter that reached 20.66 percent (yoy). (par)

The move comes as critics point out the damage being caused by a throwaway culture fuelled by cheap clothing that has seen a sharp rise in the number of garments sold an-nually around the world.

Sweden’s H&M, which is launching a line of jeans containing recycled cotton next week, will of-fer an annual 1-million-euro ($1.16 million) prize for new techniques to recycle clothes, Chief Executive Karl-Johan Persson told Reuters.

“No company, fast-fashion or not, can continue exactly like to-day,” Persson said. “The (prize’s) largest potential lies with finding new technology that means we can recycle the fibres with unchanged quality.”

As population pressure mounts, retailers like H&M are concerned about potential future shortages of cotton, which is heavily water and

Recycling

fashion world’s antidote to environmental concerns

STOCKHOLM - Hennes & Mauritz, the world’s second-biggest fashion retailer, is launching a new effort to promote recycling as it seeks to cut its environmental impact, boost its ethical credentials and address looming shortages of raw materials.

pesticide dependent.Existing cotton recycling meth-

ods make poor-quality fibres, and there is no efficient way to recycle garments of mixed materials, so the vast majority of clothes end up in land fill.

Johan Rockstrom, environmen-tal science professor at Stockholm University and a jury member for the H&M prize, said the fashion industry needs to find new busi-ness models to respond to global resource shortages.

“This is a great challenge for H&M whose trademark is cheap clothes at good quality ... The fact it’s cheap means there’s a risk people buy and throw away, or buy too much,” he said.

H&M revenues have more than doubled since 2006, reaching 151 billion Swedish crowns ($18.3 bil-lion) in the year to last November,

making it the second biggest fash-ion retailer after Spain’s Inditex.

The award is being launched by a foundation established by H&M that is funded by the retailer and the Persson family, its main owners.

Bernstein analyst Anne-Char-lotte Windal said the industry’s sustainability drive reflected the dilemma facing “fast-fashion” companies that constantly churn out new styles.

“The model only works if they encourage very frequent purchases, but the consumers are aware of the increasing effect it has on the envi-ronment,” she said.

Other companies are coming up with their own solutions.

Mud Jeans is a Dutch company which leases its garments to con-sumers and then offers them a re-placement each year, repairing and reselling the used ones or recycling

the fabric.“This is the future: producers

that are responsible for their own waste,” said Chief Executive Bert van Son.

“Our company can do this be-cause we are quite small: that it is why we can do these kinds of crazy things because we can keep cotton pure. If you are a big store chain it is very complicated if you mix cotton and polyester.”

H&M joined forces earlier this year with Puma-owner Kering to support start-up Worn Again which is developing a technology for separating and extracting fibres in mixed-material garments.

Meanwhile, a company called Re:newcell is developing a method to improve the quality of recycled cotton fibres and hopes to build a first factory in coming years.

Currently, only about a maxi-mum of 20 percent of recycled cotton can be used in a new pair of jeans because the fibre length is shortened in the shredding process, impacting quality, H&M says.

H&M and Kering are not alone in beating the recycling drum. Like H&M, Britain’s Marks & Spencer and Italy’s Calzedonia collects used items in their stores for recycling.

On a much smaller scale, Finn-ish entrepreneurs Pure Waste Textiles have managed to produce sweat shirts from 100 percent recycled cotton after improving existing recycling techniques and by recycling offcuts from clothes factories.

However, others believe that recycling is just a distraction from the real challenge of the fashion industry: persuading customers to keep wearing their clothes for longer.

To that end, British designer Tom Cridland is offering a 30-year guarantee on a range of T-shirts.

“I don’t believe it is fair on customers to churn out plain white T-shirts that will only last a year or two,” he said. “I can’t compete on price so I have to do something different.” (rtr)

DENPASAR - Culinary always attract tourists as well as local communities. Culinary booths in the event of Sanur Village Festival (SVF) always full of visitors. Not surprisingly, dozens of hotels and restaurants have been involved in this event. Seventy-five booths adorn

culinary festival that held in conjunc-tion of 10th Sanur Village Festival (SVF) in Sanur.

General Coordinator of SVF 2015, IB Wisnu Diwangkara, said the interest of hotel and restaurant to be part of SVF always high. In fact, the committee should select par-

ticipants to maintain the quality of participants. “Culinary is always an attraction that can interest thousands of visitors,” he said on Thursday.

He said about 75 hotels and restaurants take part in SVF’s food festival. SVF culinary variety is very diverse, ranging from traditional

food to western food. “Culinary products are part of the tourism in-dustry in Sanur, so the presence of these products can be an excellent promotion for tourism entrepreneurs who join this event,” he said.

Wisnu explained, the price of foods in SVF’s food festival are very

Of the five elections, Denpasar is the only one threatened to be postponed based on the fact that there is only one pair of qualifying candidates. The Denpasar Electoral Commission has therefor re-opened registration for candidates. If there are still no candidate, Denpasar’s election will be postponed until 2017 (if there is no government regulation in lieu of law). In a dis-cussion entitled “The Phenomenon of Simultaneous Local Leader Elec-tion’ that was held on Wednesday (Aug. 26), the Denpasar matter was addressed.

The lack of electoral candidates, is considered by many, as a failure on the part of political parties to ad-equately prepare cadres who might be abel to fight for election.

A legislator from Bali’s House of representives, A.A. Ngurah Adhi Ardhana, said that local leader elec-

tion are actually a celebration that should be enjoyed by people and that it would not be very elegant to have to delay such an event. He added that the excitement of the People should be supported by all participants of the celebra-tion, in this case political parties in particular.

According to Ardhana, it is odd that a political party would not want to be in power. “This is an anomaly. If even with a large voting capital -especially if they coalesce, they still do not dare to propose a candidate, what is going on?” he asked.

Ardhana sees two factors that have led to the present electoral conditions of Denpasar. The first factor has something to do with regulations that apparently allow people to take advantage of the rules to manipulate things in their favour. The second factor is related

to the political parties themselves who have not instilled a sense of wanting to struggle in their younger cadres.

“What is wrong with this elec-tion? Why are they not participat-ing? I cannot begin to imagine what is going on in the minds of political parties that has made them not want to nominate any candidates in this election. Is it based on surveys that have made them afraid to fail and so they dare not even try? Actually, surveys only indicate the popularity of politicians before they become a candidate. Once someone is nomi-nated as a candidate, only then is their likelihood of being elected measured. All pairs of candidates start from zero and have six months to improve their odds of being elected. I find his situation very odd,” he said in a puzzled tone.

Ardhana, also said that he finds

Political parties fail to shape young cadresDENPASAR - Numerous of regions in Indonesia are scheduled to hold simultaneous local

leader elections on December 9, 2015. In Bali alone, five counties; Badung, Bangli, Karangasem, Tabanan, Jembrana as well as the municipality of Denpasar will hold democratic celebrations on the same day.

it ridiculous if parties are in fact deliberately trying to delay the election until 2017 with the hopes that the popularity of incumbent candidates will become eroded over time and he worries that this phenomena could insight a sort of vendetta where elections would continuously be delayed.

“If this happens, would the politicians not feel ashamed? In the case of Denpasar, I think that candidates that did register were not not illegible, and if fact did not want to qualify. If they do not want to qualify, what does that means?” he said rhetorically.

Former member of the Denpasar Electoral Commission, IGA Diah Yuniti, is also deeply saddened to see that Denpasar “lacks” candidates for this election. What is presently occurring in regards to Denpasar’s election is a case that has never even been considered by legislators (of the laws on elections—Ed). If there is only one pair of qualifying candidates in a local leader election, can here candidates run against a non

existing opponent or not, is not clear as present regulations do not address such an eventuality. “In my opinion, because this type of situation has not be addressed in existing regulations, there is room for the sort of thing that is happening in Denpasar and other regions of Indonesia,” she lamented.

Diah Yuniti works as an activist for the NGO Bali Sruti also has the impression that there is reluc-tance on the part of a number of political parties to actually meet the requirements of encouraging their best cadres to fight in the election arena. More seriously, there is the impression that giving up, before even trying to fight against the pair of candidates who are supported by their rival political party is perhaps related to deeply engrained societal norms. In fact every political party has a long time to prepare cadres to eventually run in elections. “The current situation proves that Den-pasar’s political parties have failed to prepare the next generation of leadership,” she criticized. The suspect, 41-year-old Vester Flanagan, shot himself as police pursued him on a Virginia highway hours after the shooting. Flanagan, who was African-American, died later at a hospital, police said. The journalists who were killed were reporter Alison Parker, 24, and cameraman Adam Ward, 27. Both journalists were white, as is a woman who they were interview-ing. The woman was wounded and was in stable condition, a hospital spokesman said.

Social media postings by a per-son who appeared to be Flanagan indicated the suspect had griev-ances against the station, CBS affili-ate WDBJ7 in Roanoke, Virginia, which let him go two years ago. The person also posted video that appeared to show the attack filmed from the gunman’s vantage point.

Flanagan sent ABC News a 23-page fax about two hours after the shooting, saying his attack was trig-gered by the June 17 mass shooting at a black church in Charleston, South Carolina, the network said. Nine people were killed, and a white man has been charged in that rampage.

The network cited Flanagan as saying he had suffered racial discrimination, sexual harassment and bullying at work. He had been attacked by black men and white women, and for being a gay black man, he said. “The church shoot-ing was the tipping point ... but my anger has been building steadily,”

ABC News cited the fax as saying. “I’ve been a human powder keg for a while ... just waiting to go BOOM!”

The on-air shooting occurred at about 6:45 a.m. EDT (1045 GMT) at Bridgewater Plaza, a Smith Mountain Lake recreation site about 200 miles (320 km) southwest of Washington.

The broadcast was abruptly in-terrupted by the sound of gunshots as Parker and the woman being interviewed, Vicki Gardner, execu-tive director of the Smith Mountain Lake Regional Chamber of Com-merce, screamed and ducked for cover. Hours after the shooting, someone claiming to have filmed it posted video online. The videos were posted to a Twitter account and on Facebook by a man identifying himself as Bryce Williams, which was Flanagan’s on-air name.

The videos were removed shortly afterward. In one video, a handgun was clearly visible as the person filming approached the female re-porter. The person purporting to be Williams also posted, “I filmed the shooting see Facebook” as well as saying one of the victims had “made racist comments.”

In the fax to ABC News, Flana-gan praised shooters who had carried out mass killings at Vir-ginia Tech University in 2007 and at Colorado’s Columbine High School in 1999.

ABC News said Flanagan called the network shortly after 10 a.m.

Flanagan said he had shot two peo-ple and that police were after him, and then hung up. ABC News then contacted authorities and turned over the fax, which had arrived about 90 minutes earlier, the network said.

Shot himselfFlanagan shot himself as Vir-

ginia State Police were closing in on a rental car on Interstate 66 in Fauquier County, WDBJ7 said. State police said the suspect refused to stop when spotted by troopers and sped away.

Minutes later, the suspect’s ve-hicle ran off the road and crashed,

police said in a statement, adding that troopers approached the vehicle to find the driver with a gunshot wound. He was taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital near Washington, where he died.

“It’s obvious that this gentleman was disturbed in some way at the way things had transpired at some part of his life,” Franklin County Sheriff Bill Overton told a news conference. “It appears things were spiraling out of control, but we’re still looking into that,” he said. “We still have a lengthy investigation to conduct and that’s our focus as we move forward.” Flanagan

had sued another station where he worked in Florida for alleged racial discrimination.

Flanagan said he was called a “monkey” by a producer in the lawsuit filed in federal court against Tallahassee station WTWC in 2000. He also said a supervisor at the station called black people lazy. The Florida case was settled and dismissed the next year, court records show.

WDBJ7 President and General Manager Jeff Marks said he knew of no particular connection between Flanagan and the two slain journal-ists. (rtr)

HONG KONG — Hong Kong police charged teenage student leader Joshua Wong on Thursday for his role last year in storming government headquarters, which helped trigger 79 days of pro-democracy street occupations that gripped the Asian financial center.

Wong, whose Scholarism group played a key role in the protests, reported to a police station where he was charged with inciting and par-ticipating in an illegal assembly.

The charges came nearly a year after Wong and dozens of student activists stormed a fenced-off court-yard outside government head-quarters during an evening rally

to protest Beijing’s plan to restrict elections in the semiautonomous Chinese region.

Police arrested Wong and other key leaders, which drove more people into the streets. Two days later, on Sept. 28, police fired vol-leys of tear gas in an attempt to disperse the crowds, which only enraged the protesters further and kick-started what came to be known both as the Umbrella Movement and Occupy Central.

Wong posted photos of his police charge sheets on his Facebook ac-count. He is scheduled to appear in a magistrate’s court on Sept. 2.

Two other student leaders, Alex Chow and Nathan Law, also face

charges relating to illegal assembly over the same incident, according to local media reports. Chow is the former secretary general of the Hong Kong Federation of Students, which also played a major role in the protests. Law is the current leader.

Wong, 18, is also expected to appear in court on Friday to face two other charges of obstructing police at a separate, earlier protest in which he and others burned a cardboard copy of a Beijing policy document that asserted full author-ity over Hong Kong, a former Brit-ish colony promised a high degree of control over its own affairs until 2047. Virginia TV journalists killed by suspect with ‘powder keg’ of anger

MONETA, Va. - Two television journalists were shot to death during a live broadcast in Virginia on Wednesday, slain by a former employee of the TV station and who called himself a “powder keg” of anger over what he saw as racial discrimina-tion at work and elsewhere in the United States.

“Based on the results of our monitoring and coordinations with the Electoral Commission, the po-litical dynamics in Karangasem rare contentious. For this reason, we are placing more attention on security in this region,” said Deputy Chief of Bali Police after the assembly of the Praja Agung operations forces 2015 at Puputan Margarana Square, Renon, Denpasar, on Wednesday (Aug. 26).

According to the Bali Police Deputy Chief, the results of their vulnerability mapping related to the local leader election, Karangasem

occupies the top position for vulner-ability to conflict, because the three pairs of regent and deputy regent candidates each have fairly strong support. “We have monitored the situation in the field and seen that we see the political dynamics there are contentious, so we wil lbe adding to the number of secu-rity personal to be deployed there. Karangasem certainly requires ad-ditional personnel; at least two riot squads and two mobile brigades,” he said.

This one-star general from Singaraja said that the local

leader election 2015 has its own significance for the implementa-tion of democracy in Indonesia because the elections will be held simultaneously. Certainly this democratic event which is a mile-stone and as such the local leader election must be democratically celebrated.

“We all know that the freedom to elect our political candidates certainly has an impact on the aspirations, perception and ide-ology of citizens. Due to such implications, a variety of prob-lems could be kindled during the implementation of this election,” said Suryasta.

Conflict could potentially occur during any phase of the election, including protests, clashes amongst different faction, sabotage, ter-ror, intimidation, manipulation of

voting results and violation of the election process. Police, as law enforcement officers of the state, protectors and preserver of public security and order must remain neutral and responsible for provid-ing security.

To make sure that the implemen-tation of local leader election runs smoothly, the national police, Indo-nesian military, local government, Electoral Commission, Electoral Supervisory Board, Electoral Su-pervisory Commission, other law enforcement agencies as well as all members of society, must work synergistically.

“Synergy amongst all stakehold-ers must be present so as to manage any problems that arise, so that they do not develop or become widespread and create contingency situations that could impede the

course of the local leader election,” said Suryasta.

For ensuring security at polling stations, security officers are truly ready for the tasks and are prepared to maintain neutrality. In addition, Suryasta has ordered his personnel in the field, to increase awareness about the potential threat of ter-rorism that could take advantage of the moment in the local leader election 2015.

“I want to remind everyone that the main indicators of the success of this year’s local leader election will largely be deter-mined by the professionalism and neutrality each and everyone of the electoral organizers, and the support of the community in cre-ating a safe and successful local leader election,” he concluded. GIANYAR - Sterilization pro-cess of public security and order has begun to be done by police around the Captain Dipta Stadium ahead of the President Cup football tourna-ment scheduled to be opened by President Joko Widodo on August 30. On the arrival of the number one man in Indonesia, dozens of busi-

ness premises around the location will be closed temporarily.

Chief of Blahbatuh Police, Nyo-man Supartha, said that dozens of police officers along with village apparatus have been deployed to carry out sterilization process be-fore the arrival of President Joko Widodo. This process is conducted

by targeting a number of work-shops, scavenger warehouses as well as boarding houses around the location.

“In the vicinity, there are many workshops and warehouses. We are checking them all so that there is nothing suspicious and danger-ous left. Besides, we have made

data collection of all the residents living around the Dipta Stadium,” he said.

At the opening of the President Cup on Sunday (Aug. 30), his party with the authority of Buruan customary village and headman of Buruan asked the acknowledg-ment so that some businesses at

the locations such as a scavenger warehouse, five workshops and a number of food stalls are closed. “We do this based on the agree-ment of village authority, so that people can understand that during the arrival of the president all the business premises are closed tem-porarily,” he said. (kmb35)

DENPASAR - The Bali Police will deploy a total of 12,764 personnel to secure all phases of the simultaneous local leader election next December. Deputy Chief of Bali Police, Nyoman Suryasta, revealed that Karangasem is predicted to be the most vulnerable to potential conflict. Bali Police will therefore be deploying a mobile brigade and riot squad to Karangasem.

BUSINESS

The Commerce Department on Thursday will update its estimate of the economy’s growth, as measured by the gross domestic product, for the April-June quarter.

A month ago, the government calculated that the economy grew at a 2.3 percent annual rate last quar-ter. That figure marked a rebound from the January-March quarter, when growth slowed to an anemic 0.6 percent rate, mainly because of a severe winter and other temporary factors.

Economists surveyed by data firm FactSet have forecast that

the government will now estimate that the economy expanded at a stronger 3 percent annual rate last quarter.

About half the increased growth is expected to have come from greater stockpiling of supplies than the government had initially estimated. But that buildup of in-ventory is expected to mean slower growth in the current July-Septem-ber quarter. Analysts had originally expected annualized growth in the second half of the year to top 3 per-cent. Now, many think growth this summer reached a slower annual

rate of around 2.8 percent.Mark Zandi, chief economist at

Moody’s Analytics, has predicted that after a quarter of working down unwanted inventories, the economy will accelerate to a 3.5 percent an-nual rate in the October-December period. But that forecast is based on the expectation that the stock market’s slide will stabilize before it damages consumer and business confidence.

“My forecast rests on the as-sumption that this is a garden variety market correction, with stock prices dropping by 10 per-cent from their recent high,” Zandi said. “If we get a bigger decline of 20 percent, then that will hurt consumption and housing, and we will not get the job growth we are expecting.”

A decline in stock prices of 10 percent is generally considered a market correction, while a fall of 20 percent is viewed as the start of a bear market.

On Wednesday, stocks rallied to recoup some of the huge losses incurred in the previous sessions. The Dow Jones industrial aver-age jumped 619 points, its biggest one-day gain in seven years. That snapped a six-day losing streak in which the Dow tumbled about 1,900 points, a plunge that wiped out more than $2 trillion in corpo-rate value.

Analysts cautioned that there could be more turbulence ahead, in part because of unsettled condi-tions in China. Beijing has devalued its currency and taken other steps to address a major slowdown in

its economy, the world’s second-largest.

Wall Street took some comfort Wednesday from comments by Wil-liam Dudley, president of the New York Federal Reserve Bank. Dudley told reporters that the case for a Fed rate hike in September is “less compelling to me than it was a few weeks ago,” given China’s troubles, falling oil prices and weakness in emerging markets.

Before the recent turmoil, many economists had thought that signs of an improving U.S. economy would lead the Fed to begin rais-ing its key short-term rate, which it’s kept at a record low near zero since late 2008. Now, many think the Fed will postpone its first rate hike until December or perhaps even later. (ap)

SHANGHAI - China’s central bank on Thursday set its central rate for the yuan currency at a four-year low against the US dollar, a move analysts said reflected reduced expectations for the unit following a devaluation.

The yuan was fixed at 6.4085 to the greenback, ac-cording to the China Foreign Exchange Trade System, just 0.07 percent weaker from the previous day. But it was the lowest since August 2011, the Shanghai Securities News said on its website.

The move follows an interest rate cut announced on Tuesday and a slumping stock market, which has fallen more than 40 percent since peaking in mid-June.

“The yuan depreciated as growing market expec-tations for yuan depreciation have been gradually fulfilled after the one-off devaluation on August 11,” Liu Dongliang, a senior analyst at China Merchants Bank in Shenzhen, told AFP.

The central bank on August 11 devalued the yuan by nearly two percent, saying the decision was aimed at moving towards a more flexible exchange rate though the market interpreted it as a sign of economic weakness. It fell further in the following days.

The yuan is restricted to trading up or down two percent from the daily rate on the national foreign exchange market.

Before the August 11 change, the central bank used to decide its daily yuan reference rate by polling mar-ket-makers, but now says it takes into consideration the previous day’s close, foreign exchange supply and demand and the rates of major currencies.

At midday on Thursday, the yuan was trading at 6.4091 to the dollar, slightly stronger than Wednes-day’s close of 6.4095.

The central bank injected 150 billion yuan ($23 billion) into the money market on Thursday, according to a statement, amid recent tight liquidity. (afp)

US economy likely grew more in spring than first estimated

WASHINGTON — The U.S. economy likely gained more momentum in the spring than the government previously es-timated. The question now is whether shrunken global stock markets and a sharp slowdown in China will weaken the economy in coming months.

NEGARA - Two Gong Kebyar gamelan troupes posing the envoy of Jembrana and Negara appearing at the open stage of Jagatnatha Temple on Tuesday night (Aug. 25) drew hundreds of spectators. This performance is in the series of the anniversary of Negara town holding competition of gong kebyar among the subdistricts.

Negara subdistrict is represented by Gita Kumara of SMPN 1 Negara junior high school and Jembrana subdistrict is represented by Gong Kebyar Karya Budaya from Tegal Badeng Barat. In the performance during 2.5 hours, both gong kebyar troupes are required to present gamelan music composition, creation com-position, gamelan music with creation dance and gamelan music of traditional games. Before the jury panel consisting of Made Yudarta, Made Kartawan and A.A. Ayu Kayun Hartatih (all from the ISI) as well as Ida Bagus Sulinggih from Jembrana Education Agency, each participant delivers its best performance.

Gong Kebyar Karya Budaya from Negara subdistrict getting the first chance came with Pepanggulan Tabuh Telu creation and Jaran Badeng. Uniquely, this Jaran Badeng composition is inspired by the story of their ancestors related to the origins of the Tegal Badeng village. It is said that the village name comes from the attack of wild horses that destroyed the village. As a response, the village ruler assigned its troops dressed in black by forming very strong troops. Due to raging horses, the area originally named Tegal Gegesan was then changed into blackening and due to this incident the village was then renamed into Tegal Badeng. Until now the name is still used for the village.

In the meantime, Gong Kebyar Gita Kumara, the envoy of Negara subdistrict, is also trying to appear maximally by pre-senting gamelan music composition with ngericik and ngerocok creation and metukup- tukupan traditional games. The games tell about a group of children that were playing traditional hide-and-seek games currently replaced by modern games and TV shows.

According to the committee doubling as jury of the com-petition, Ida Bagus Sulinggih, the competition of gong kebyar this time is not only to find out new generation of the art, but also the winners that will be projected to participate in the Bali Arts Festival next year. (kmb26)

MANGUPURA - The desire to accommodate people having pro-fession to sell handicraft products in Badung by establishing a Mengwi customary village art market cannot be realized so far. Moreover, the building located at the entrance into Taman Ayun, Mengwi, is unclear when to be in operation.

More sadly, the building pos-ing the assistance of Bali pro-vincial government is now filled with plastic waste scattered in every corner of the building. This building draws the attention of passing people, including foreign and domestic travelers that are coming to and leaving the Ta-man Ayun.

The head of Mengwi subdistrict, IGN Gede Jaya Saputra, justified the matter. Previously, the market was planned to be operated by the authority of Mengwi customary village, but because there are a number of repairs, the operation of the three-year-old market is also postponed. “Indeed the building in the west side is still being repaired first and it is handled by the author-ity of customary village,” he said.

Later, he said that the operation of the art market will be entirely handed over to the Mengwi cus-tomary village. “However, I do not know for sure when the operation will be carried out,” he said.

Currently, explained Saputra, the building having been operated is the one located in the east side, namely used for the exhibition of the art products. “Indeed, the building in the west side has not been operated yet,” he said.

Similar opinion was delivered by the chief of Mengwi customary village, Ida Bagus Anom. He said that the market cannot be operated yet because it remains to install paving block. “It is estimated to be operated next month,” he said.

As mentioned, all this time his par-ty has been unable to move quickly because the building was just handed over to the authority of customary vil-lage two days ago. “It is the assistance of the provincial government and then submitted to the government of Badung. Just two days ago the letter was delivered to customary village. So, we can just repair it right now,” he concluded. (kmb27)

BI Governor Agus Martowardojo on Thursday expressed optimism that the domestic economy would grow better in the second semester compared to the previous semester, which witnessed a slowdown.

“Thus, the economic growth is expected to be between 4.7 and 5.1 percent, or around 4.9 percent,” the minister stated.

The government is currently facing a huge global economic challenge. The global economic growth is forecast at 3.3 per-cent, lower than the realized growth of 3.4 percent in 2014.

It indicates that the global economic development is not encouraging enough, he noted.

“Despite some improvement in advanced countries such as the United States, we need to focus on China, which had enjoyed a growth of over 10 percent in the past 20 years, and has dropped to 7.4 percent. Its economy is projected to grow at 6.8 percent in 2015. China is a major economy, so when it experiences a decline in economic growth, there are some impacts,” he remarked.

Other developing countries such as Brazil, Turkey, India, and South Africa, which have so far developed encouragingly, have also been affected by the global economic slowdown and the sentiment of the interest rate surge by the Fed, he pointed out.

The minister explained that the domestic economic slow-down in the first semester was due to the slow absorption of the state budget.

The central bank will always respond by issuing prudent and consistent policies in order to control inflation, he added.

“We will continue to remind businesses to apply prudent principles, with minimal hedging and minimal liquidity man-agement. Particularly, we will always coordinate with the government,” the minister stated. (ant)

WASHINGTON - The Inter-national Monetary Fund managing director, Christine Lagarde, heads to Indonesia next week for talks with senior officials and a high-level Asian finance conference, the IMF said Wednesday.

During her September 1-2 visit, Lagarde will meet with President Joko Widodo and other senior of-ficials, including Bank Indonesia Governor Agus Martowardojo.

The visit “presents an opportu-nity to exchange views on recent economic developments, Indone-sia’s prospects, and its role as an emerging power both in the region and globally,” the Washington-based crisis lender said in a state-ment.

Lagarde’s visit comes at a time

of heightened volatility in Asian financial markets, largely due to China’s economic slowdown and markets turmoil, as well as fall-ing commodity prices that have hammered Indonesia and other emerging-market economies and their currencies.

Last week Indonesia’s central bank kept its key interest rate un-changed for the sixth consecutive month, as it struggled to stabilize the plunging rupiah following China’s surprise currency devalu-ation the prior week.

Lagarde will participate in a regional conference -- “Future of Asia’s Finance: Financing for De-velopment 2015” -- in Jakarta on September 2, co-sponsored by the IMF and Bank Indonesia. (afp)

A notice on the national pros-ecutor’s website said Thursday they included current and retired officials in the port city of Tian-jin, along with others working for the company that runs the port, the largest in northern China.

All the government officials are accused of dereliction of duty and abusing their positions, the notice said. They are from agen-cies overseeing transportation, port operations, workplace safe-ty, planning and land resources, and customs. It points to a charge that the dereliction of duty was widespread and included several departments.

The Aug. 12 explosions at the warehouse owned by Ruihai Logistics were not only one of China’s worst accidents but the deadliest ever for first re-sponders, with 115 police and firefighters among the dead and missing.

The investigation has focused on how the warehouse gained permission to handle sodium cyanide and other dangerous chemicals despite being located inside a legally-mandated 1,000-meter (1,000-yard) buffer zone from homes and roads. The in-vestigation has also found that the warehouse was storing more

chemicals than it was equipped to handle and had kept some in a loading zone rather than storing them securely.

The responsible parties “failed to take strong measures in re-sponse to the Ruihai company’s illegal and unregulated actions, did not assiduously carry out their duties and issued business permits in violations of rules,” the prosecutor’s notice said.

Police have already detained 12 Ruihai employees as part of their investigation and are also looking into a company sus-pected of providing bogus safety assessments. (ap)

WARSAW, Poland — Warsaw’s controversial rainbow art, once installed by an old cloister and then a symbol of Poland’s leadership in the European Union and of tolerance for sexual minorities, has been taken down by the authorities at night.

Magda Mich, spokeswoman for a culture institute that had the colorful arch planted in downtown Warsaw, said Thursday that it was a temporary installation and was long

planned to be moved to another loca-tion, still to be announced.

The six-color, 9 meters (30 feet)-high rainbow by artist Julita Wojcik started in 2010 as half-arch calling for renovation of an old cloister. A full rainbow, it advertised Poland’s 2011 EU presidency in Brussels. Then it was moved to Warsaw’s Savior Square, where it became a symbol of tolerance, but was repeat-edly set on fire. (ap)

LISBON, Portugal — Portugal’s National Election Commission says 21 parties, some in coalitions, will field candidates in a general election on Oct. 4.

The commission said late Wednes-day that only 14 parties will run in all 22 electoral districts. The Social Democratic Party and the Popular Party — which formed Portugal’s center-right coalition government for

the past four years — are standing together. Their main rival is the center-left Socialist Party. Between them, the three main parties are expected to col-lect more than 70 percent of the vote, similar to previous elections.

All the main parties say they will abide by the fiscal discipline required by being in the 19-nation eurozone, al-though the Socialists have promised to ease some austerity measures. (ap)

NEW YORK — Researchers have linked a sophisticated hacking scheme targeting Iranian dissidents back to Iran. A report released Thursday by the Citizen Lab at the University of Toronto’s Munk School of Global Affairs describes how the hackers used text message and phone-based phishing to try to get around the secu-rity of Google’s Gmail and access the accounts of their targets.

The attacks studied by the Citizen Lab were very similar to others con-nected to Iranian hackers, the report says. According to the report, some of the attacks began when the targets received text messages that appeared to be from Google saying that there had been an unauthorized attempt to access their Gmail accounts.

The hackers would then follow up with a carefully crafted email notifica-tion containing personal details and stating that the login attempt had been from “The Iran,” boosting the fears of people already worried about Iranian hackers.

The emails contained links direct-ing the target to a page where they could reset their password. But in fact, the links were to phishing sites de-signed to collect the target’s password. The hackers would then, in real time, use the password to login to the user’s account and trigger the sending of an identification code to the target.

Gmail uses the code as a form of two-factor authentication, which adds

a second layer of security on top of a person’s password. The hackers would then wait for the target to enter the code, collect it through the fraudulent website, and then use it to take control of the account.

In other cases, the targets were contacted by phone by a person speaking English or Farsi, the pre-dominate language in Iran, who would make a “proposal” related to the target’s business activities. The fake proposal, usually promising thousands of dollars, would then be sent to the target’s Gmail in the form of an email containing a fake Google Drive link.

When the target clicked on the drive, they would be prompted to login with the Google credentials and ultimately the two-factor identifica-tion code, just like in the cases of the text messages.

While attempts to circumvent two-factor authentication security are nothing new when it comes to financial fraud-related hackings, the practice is fairly new to politically motivated attacks.

“It may be that, as a growing num-ber of potential targets have begun using two-factor authentication on their email accounts out of a concern for their security, politically moti-vated attackers are borrowing from a playbook that financial criminals have written over the past decade,” the report reads. This location can be reached by passing through a pathway along 500 meters surrounded by a verdant clove plantation on the right and left side. Here, visitors will perceive a cool and fresh air. The Kuning Wa-terfall itself is situated at an altitude of 25 meters from the surface of the water of Melan-git River flowing southwards. Surrounding nature offers a very beautiful views and un-spoiled atmosphere becoming the backdrop of waterfall. Tropical forest nearby still inhabited by thousands of grey monkeys makes this ecotourism object more chal-lenging.

From Denpasar, drive your vehicle to Bangli either by passing through Suka-wati/Gianyar road section or via Jalan Bypass Ida Bagus Mantra. When arriving at Taman Bali Village, ap-proximately 3 km before the town of Bangli, you will see a T-junction. Take the right turn and follow the road until arriving at a junction near the NON MIN drinking water factory. Then, from the T-junction, turn right until the end of the road near the house of residents. From here, the journey should be resumed on foot along some 300 meters to reach the Kun-ing Waterfall.

A wall was famously put up di-viding the Yamaha garage into two separate teams when Lorenzo first came to MotoGP as a double 250cc world champion in 2008 alongside Rossi, who had won five top-class titles at that point.

The pair spent three years to-gether before Rossi’s unsucessful 2011-12 stint at Ducati, after which they were reunited at Yamaha.

They are currently engaged in their first head-to-head title battle since 2009 - when Rossi came out on top - having drawn level at the top of the championship when Lorenzo won at Brno earlier this month.

“For the moment our relationship is better than ever,” said Lorenzo at a press conference in London ahead of this weekend’s British Grand

Prix at Silverstone.“Before, it was not so good. But

after a long time, changing so many circumstances over the years, now there is more respect between us. “We each know that the other is so good and so strong. Our power is very similar and very equal, that’s why I think the championship in these last seven races will be so interesting.

“At this point, we’ve not had a big, big fight on the track or a situ-ation where one of us has thought the other has made a dirty move in some corner. “At the moment we respect each other on track and outside the track too.”

Lorenzo thinks it was inevitable that they clashed first time around given their respective career posi-tions in 2008.

“When I arrived in MotoGP, I was 20 years old, I was very ambi-tious and he was in the best period of his career and was protecting his space a little bit and his position in the team,” he said.

“I wanted to get close to him or beat him as soon as possible. “For this reason we had this little tension, but now I think it’s disappeared quite a bit.”

He admitted that the pressure of an intra-team title fight could revive hostilities, but doubted they would ever return to their previous level.

“For sure if in the future some situation happens that can cre-ate some friction between us, that relationship could change,” Lorenzo said. “But I don’t believe it will be as bad as it was in the past.” (net)

NEW YORK — Serena Wil-liams is trying to ignore “the el-ephant in the room” ahead of the U.S. Open. “I’m OK with it. I’m really not even talking about it,” the tennis pro said at an event in New York on Wednesday. If she wins the U.S. Open, which starts Aug. 31, it will be her fifth straight major title and the first calendar Grand Slam by a woman since Steffi Graf did it in 1988.

Williams instead channeled any nervous energy into singing at a karaoke night sponsored by Delta Air Lines, now in its second year. Before the show, she said she was more worried about her song choice than her tennis game. “I’m going to make a game time decision. I always get so nervous every year like, ‘I don’t know what to do, I don’t know what to do,’” she said.

Williams, 33, ended up choosing “Under the Sea” from “The Little

Mermaid,” complete with dance moves and Caribbean accent. “We just kind of wanted to celebrate just kicking off (the) U.S. Open and having fun and relaxing and enjoying it,” said Williams.

Kei Nishikori, who is seeded fourth for the U.S. Open, also was there. After having to withdraw from the Cincinnati Masters because of fatigue and a hip injury, Nishikori said he’s now doing well.

“I’m feeling pretty good. After (Montreal) I took one week off,” he said. “I couldn’t play Cincin-nati, but otherwise I’m feeling pretty good and my tennis is, you know, getting better and feeling very solid.”

Other celebrities in attendance included Laverne Cox, Uzo Aduba and Jason Biggs of Netflix’s “Or-ange is the New Black,” singer Estelle and actor Alan Cumming. (ap)

While the Champions League welcomed back one of the conti-nent’s biggest names and a three-time European champion, a club with a very different pedigree also advanced.

MILAN - AS Roma have been pre-sented with an excellent chance to end their poor recent run against Juventus when the two meet on the Sunday with the titleholders still caught in a rebuilding process. Juventus and Roma have finished first and second in Serie A in each of the last two seasons and meetings between the two during that time have been dominated by the Turin side.

Juve, Serie A champions for the last four seasons, took six points off Roma two seasons ago and four points last season as they ran away with the title. Now, the fixture list has pitted them against each other in only the second match day of the season and, with Juventus still under construction after an eventful summer, the odds appear to be stacked in favour of Rudi Garcia’s Roma, who host the match at the Stadio Olimpico.

Juventus, who saw veteran play-maker Andrea Pirlo, topscorer Carlos Tevez and midfield dynamo Arturo Vidal all leave during the summer, were disjointed and lacked their usual vitality as they slumped 1-0 at home to Udinese last Sunday.

Italian commentators were quick to get out their history books and point out that there have only been four sea-sons in the past a team has recovered from an opening day defeat to go on and win the title.

Juventus have kept the core of their team together over the last four seasons and merely tweaked the team during the transfer window, but this summer they have gone for a full-blown overhaul.

Although the season has already started, the transfer rumours are still swirling around. Colombia forward Juan Cuadrado was signed this week and the club are still reported to be chasing Schalke 04 midfielder Julian Draxler. “Everyone needs patience, as it is a transitional year, but that doesn’t mean we’ve lost before we begin,” said defender Leonardo Bonucci. “There are many young players here and we have to put them in the best condition to do well.”

Unlike Juventus, Roma have kept the core of their side from last season and brought in Mohamed Salah and Edin Dzeko to bring in some added flair and firepower. Even so, their most impressive debutant in last week’s 1-1 draw at Verona was goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.

“It will be interesting it see that when we play them next weekend. They’ve lost some top-quality players in Pirlo, Tevez and Vidal but they’ve also signed some fantastic talents,” said Roma coach Rudi Garcia. “They, like us, have work to do if they want to improve and exploit their squad’s full potential.” (rtr)

Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil says he can score more goals by being “a bit more selfish” but will continue to put the team ahead of any personal glory. Ozil joined the Gunners two seasons ago for a club

SOFIA - Lokomotiv Plovdiv said they will continue their par-ticipation in the Bulgarian league after the domestic football union (BFU) nearly halved the fine on the club for their fans’ alleged rac-ist behaviour earlier this month.

Lokomotiv were considering whether to quit the Bulgarian league after the country’s foot-ball federation (BFU) fined the club 37,500 levs ($21,224) after the Aug. 8 match against Litex Lovech.

The 2004 Bulgarian cham-pions Lokomotiv categorically denied any wrongdoing during the 1-1 draw against Litex Lovech on Aug. 8 and said they are consider-ing quitting the league, keeping only their youth teams.

The appeal commission of the Bulgarian soccer’s govern-ing body cut fine to 19,000 levs ($10,988.38), calling it a final decision.

“This is not a decision that satisfies us,” senior Lokomotiv

official Nikolay Ne-delchev told the local media. However, he said the club will not quit the champion-ship.

Bulgarian soccer authorities have long been criticised by anti-racism campaigners, lo-cal media and fans for not cracking down hard enough on discrimination in sport. (rtr)

MADRID - Living in one of the main centres of Spain’s bull-fighting culture, Seville natives know a thing or two about dealing with the angry beasts but Real Betis coach Pepe Mel would rather not have to in La Liga on Saturday.

Betis, the second-division cham-pions who are based in the Andalu-sian capital, play at Real Madrid’s Bernabeu stadium (2030 GMT) after the world’s richest club by income were held to a 0-0 draw at another promoted side, Sporting Gijon, in their opening game of the campaign last weekend.

It was a frustrating return to La Liga for Real’s new coach Rafa Ben-itez and he and the players, including FIFA Ballon d’Or holder Cristiano Ronaldo, will be desperate to put on a good show for their fans. Real also struggled to score goals in some of their pre-season warmup matches,

raising concerns they might not have enough firepower to challenge for silverware in Spain and Europe after failing to win a major trophy last term.

Mel, who returned to Betis in December after a failed stint at Eng-lish club West Bromwich Albion, dismissed such concerns as “laugh-able”.

“It seems like a joke because they have a player (Ronaldo) who will score more goals on his own than 15 of the teams in the first division,” he said in an interview with As sports daily published on Thursday. “I have a soft spot for the fans of Sporting but we would have liked Madrid to have beaten them convincingly because now we get the raging bull,” he added.

“Madrid neither won nor scored in their opening game and that means this home game will be doubly spe-

cial for them. “I don’t know if it’s science fiction but we have to make the game crowded for them. “With fast players like (Gareth) Bale and Cristiano you can’t allow spaces, you have to be compact.”

Spanish and European champions Barcelona, chasing a sixth La Liga title in eight years, host Malaga ear-lier on Saturday (1830) after winning 1-0 at Athletic Bilbao on the opening weekend.

Barca coach Luis Enrique could have Neymar back after illness, reuniting the club’s lethal attack of the Brazil forward, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, who netted a Spanish record 122 goals among them last season.

MILAN — Mario Balot-elli is hoping his loan move back to AC Milan enables him to realize

a wish of his recently deceased

adoptive father: to play for Italy again at next year’s European Cham-pionship.

day. Balotelli says “I want to play in the European Championship and I’ll do everything I can to do so. Seeing me in the national team shirt was one of my father’s desires before he died. I owe it to him, too.”

Francesco Balotelli died last month. Balotelli has fallen out of favor with Italy coach Antonio Conte after scoring only one Premier League goal in his year at Liverpool. His form last season was a far cry from when he led Italy to the final of Euro 2012. (ap)

“I want to score more goals than in the last two seasons and that’s my aim for this season,” the 26-year-old, who was challenged by manager Arsene Wenger to score more than 10 goals this campaign, told the club website (www.arsenal.com).

“I think now and then I need to become a bit more selfish -- then I’d definitely score more goals.

“But I’m a player who thinks for the team first and not for my own needs and that’s why I will carry on to play the way I always do. “I think that’s one of my distinguish-ing characteristics,” the former Real Madrid midfielder added.

For Ozil, renowned for his abil-ity to play defence-splitting passes, team success is much more impor-tant. “For me it’s not just goals and assists that mean everything, what’s more important is that we’re suc-cessful as a team,” said the player, who was named in the UEFA Euro 2012 Team of the Tournament. “My aim is to help the team and I’ll do all I can to achieve that.

“In truth I’m more the sort of player who doesn’t really go for goal, I tend to look for my team-mates and think, ‘Can I play this pass?’,” he added.

Currently ninth in the league with four points from three games, Arsenal travel to St James’ Park to face Newcastle United on Saturday with Ozil eyeing his first goal of the season. (rtr)

BANGLI - It is situated at Kuning Hamlet in the south of Bangli, near Taman Bali Raja tourist object.

(ap)

(kmb27)

“Based on the results of our monitoring and coordinations with the Electoral Commission, the po-litical dynamics in Karangasem rare contentious. occupies the top position for vulner-ability to conflict, because the three pairs of regent and deputy regent candidates each have fairly strong support.

As population pressure mounts, retailers like H&M are concerned about potential future shortages of cotton, which is heavily water and

fashion world’s antidote to environmental concerns

(par)

(ap)

ThE decelera-tion of economic growth in Indo-nesia (including Bali), is thought

to be influencing the property business.

In order to maintain the momentum of economic growth, the Bank of Indonesia is loosening its macro-pru-dential policy by increasing the Loan to Value (LTV) ratio and Financing to Value (FTV) ratio. This policy applies to property loans and to the lowering

of amount of prepayments required for motor vehicle loans.

Fundamental changes to the LTV/FTV and down payment policies include such changes as the amount of the LTV ratio for Property Loans and FTV ratios for Sharia Property

Loans. The increase in the amount of the LTV/FTV ratio is being set at ten percent for landed houses, flats and home-shops/home offices, from type 21 to type 70 and above.

Changes to the provisions for loan down payments for the financing of

motor vehicles (in regular and Sharia systems) are applicable to motorcy-cles, tricycles and so forth. The re-quired percentage for down payments is being reduced to five percent.
