Please note the registration deadlines. Upon registration, your fees are committed to the trip and full refunds may not be issued after the end of the registration deadline. This depends on whether nonrefundable event tickets were purchased for the trip. In some instances, such as weather cancellations, a full refund may not be possible. Again, this depends on whether nonrefundable event tickets were purchased for the trip. Children have to be five years or older to ride on the bus. Use and/or possession of alcoholic beverages on the bus is prohibited (EWC Board Policy 5.13).

WelcomeWelcome to the Eastern Wyoming College Community Education & Workforce Development 2014 Spring Brochure. Our mission is to provide life-long learning opportunities for the residents of eastern Wyoming. We have tried to provide a variety of trips, personal enrichment classes, music classes, fitness/wellness classes, youth classes, computer classes and Ed2go classes. The LaGrange Community Education classes are also included in this schedule. Under Workforce Development you will find courses in Healthcare, Business & Professional Development and Safety Training.

Adult Basic EducationThe Adult Basic Education (ABE) program at Eastern Wyoming College is located in the Learning Skills Lab. The ABE offers instruction in General Education Development (GED), adult literacy, English as a second Language (ESL) and civics. The program is a student-centered, individualized, goal-oriented educational program and is free to the general public. For additional information please visit the EWC website.

Maya: Hidden Worlds RevealedTales of the Maya SkiesDenver Museum of Nature & ScienceTo the ancient and living Maya, the ceiba tree is sacred. Its trunk is of this world, its roots plunge into the depths of the underworld and its lofty branches reach into the heavens. You will explore these worlds of life, death, and rebirth as you watch the film “Tales of the Maya Skies” in the DMNS planetarium and as you experience the Hidden Worlds Maya exhibition. We will partake in a substantial snack prior to our museum tour and dine on a hearty Italian buffet at Cinzetti’s on the way home. 7th Annual Rocky Mountain Quilt FestivalThe Ranch—Loveland, CoThe Rocky Mountain Quilt Festival is a leading trade fair for international textiles, yarn, and fabrics. The festival will showcase antique, traditional and contemporary quilts, dolls, clothing items and other needle art incorporating a wide array of techniques. The cost of the ticket includes the price of admission to the Quilt Festival. MY WAY: A MUSICAL TRIBUTE TO FRANK SINATRAFort Robinson Post PlayhouseEnjoy an evening of “Ol Blue Eyes”. This revue, conceived by Todd Olsen and David Grapes, was first performed at Artpark, in Lewiston, New York, in 1999. Since then it has become one of the most popular musical revues in the United States. The focus is, of course, Sinatra---his prolific life and career, most particularly the nearly 1.400 songs he recorded, 57 of which are included in this production. 2014 EWC Lancer Volleyball CampPARENTS MUST SIGN EWC LIABILITY/INSURANCE WAIVER Intermediate camp is for students who have completed grades 3-7 and is designed to help developing players improve ball handling techniques, spiking, blocking and team play. Advanced camp is for students who have completed grades 8-11 and is designed to provide advanced instruction in all skill areas, develop defensive playing, and to expand team offense. Class size limited to 30.Date: Wednesday-Friday, June 11, 12, 13 Time: Intermediate 9:00am to noon Advanced 1:00 to 4:00pmCost: $65 (includes camp t-shirt) Location: EWC Gymnasium

EWC Lancer MVP Basketball CampInstructor: Hamidou Conde, EWC Asst Men’s Basketball Coach Master the fundamentals! Value your team & the ball! Prepare like a Champion! This day camp is designed to improve basketball fundamentals, teamwork, and competition. There will an emphasis on enjoying the game of basketball. Tennis CampInstructor: Mary Perkins, THS Tennis CoachJunior (ages 6-10) Class size limited to 25---The QuickStart Tennis approach will be followed. The courts are small, the racquets are kid-sized, and the instruction is age-appropriate. QuickStart, add FUN fitness, and conditioning activities that work on agility, balance, coordination, footwork, and reaction time, all while learning the game of tennis. Bottled water and snacks will be provided. Intermediate (ages 11-15) Class size limited 25---Tennis Camp will start each player at their level and work on skills accordingly. Whether you are a beginner or already have some skills, there will be a group for you. The focus will be on forehand and backhand shots, serving and volleying, and the rules of the game. Tennis techniques will be incorporated into fun games. Driver’s Education June Session or July SessionInstructor: Torrington Police Officers Matt Davis & Steven RostadParticipation Requirements: Classroom---30 hours; Driving---6 hours; Observation---12 hours. Students are responsible for scheduling driving/observation hours with the instructor. A copy of the student’s learner’s permit must be provided before first class session. Students must attend all classes. Girls Goat Tying Groundwork BasicsInstructor: Shai SchaeferAges 8-12, class size limited to 10, no horses needed. You will begin with instruction on fundamental skills, with the elements of goat tying broken down and worked on separately so you develop an understanding of the desired movements necessary to be a top-notch goat tier. If you are just starting out or fine tuning your skills, this will be a fun class for you because games are added to make the “skills work” fun and challenging. Here is your chance to make your very own Sock Monkey or make one to give away. In this class, we will use the Original Rockford Red Heel Sock to make your personalized Sock Monkey. Kids-a-Cooking Full-Meal-Deal 3-5Instructor: Stephanie Vento, Laramie District #2 FCS TeacherKids, there’s a lot more to cooking than just throwing ingredients together. In this 2 day class, Miss Stephanie will guide you in planning your meal menu, finding recipes, making a shopping list of ingredients, selecting your ingredients at Main Street Market, and preparing your dishes. GCT Children’s Theatre WorkshopProfessional PiratesThis year’s workshop for children currently in grades 3-8 will feature Pirates, Puppets, Puppeteers. . . a very large SHARK! Come improve your theatre skills and be a part of a great show! We will focus on acting, voice projection and diction, singing, movement and dance, stage make-up and prop creations. Auditions, practices and showcase will be at Torrington High School Auditorium. Those who accept larger parts for this show will need to commit to extra rehearsals in addition to the regular workshop. “Down on the Farm”---Children’s Music & Theatre PerformanceInstructor: Angela TolmanKids, this class will get you tapping your feet and singing along with fun farm related songs. Each day you will learn songs, choreography and speaking parts leading up to a performance on Friday, July 18 at 10:30pm. In addition, you will be playing games and creating crafts, and you get to take home the performance props you make. There are three age-based classes: Pre-school—ages 3, 4, 5; Lower Elementary---ages 6, 7, 8; Upper Elementary---ages9, 10, 11. SUMMER YOGA Instructor: Susan BurianJust because it’s “summertime and the livin’ is easy” doesn’t mean you have to ease out of your yoga routine. Susan is offering an eight week session of her most popular classes to help you keep your yoga practice going strong. However, summer is a great time for anyone to try yoga and enjoy the energizing, confidence and strength building practice, whether you are new to yoga or have been out of practice for a while. The cost for this 8 week session is $80. Registration deadline: May 30. There is a minimum of 5 participants for each class. Late registration fee is $10.

Blood Chemistry Profile - Full 32-level screening for bone and electrolyte levels along with heart and kidney functions and liver and lipid functions with cholesterol, protein, iron, glucose, and thyroid levels. WHF recommends fasting for 12 hours, unless diabetic. Drink plenty of water and take medications as usual.

Blood Pressure - Blood pressure and pulse rate are identified using an Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor.

Blood Type - Determination of ABO blood group and Rh type.

Body Fat Analysis - Body fat % and the body mass index (BMI) are calculated using a Body Fat Loss Monitor.

Bone Density - A heel scan of the thickest bone in our body which can identify risk factors for osteoporosis.

Celiac - tTG / IGA screening which detects antibodies that aid in the diagnosis of gluten-sensitive enteropathy (GSE), such as celiac disease and dermatitis herpetiforms.

C-Reactive Protein (CRP) - An inflammatory marker which detects a substance that the body releases in response to inflammation surrounding the heart. CRP levels can provide physicians with information on a patient’s risk of heart disease. No caffeine for 12 hours prior to draw.

Ferritin - Indicates the level of high iron stored and can be useful in screening for Hemochromatosis, Anemia, and some liver diseases.

Hemoglobin A1C - Measures historical blood sugar control for up to three months. This test is recommended twice a year for diabetics.

Hemogram - Complete blood count (CBC) of red and white blood cells and platelets. Also screens for Anemia, Leukemia, and other disorders that may affect the cells in your blood.

PSA for Men - Screening for Prostate Cancer in men over the age of 50. However, if there is a family history, it is recommended at age 40.

Thyroid Profile T3, T4 - Additional screening that includes three levels for the T3 uptake (THBR), T4 (thyroxine), and free thyroxine index/calculation.

Vitamin B12 - Screening which detects B12 deficient or elevated levels. Vitamin B12 aids in the health of cells and nerves.

Vitamin D, 25 Hydroxy - Provides an assessment of overall Vitamin D status for the screening of deficiency or toxicity. This test measures both D2 and D3 together and reports a total 25-hydroxy Vitamin D. Several factors are associated with an increased risk of developing Vitamin D deficiency.

Torrington Class June 2nd – June 16th Newcastle Class June 9th – July 8th This course is designed to provide concepts and skills of caring for residents of long-term care facilities under the supervision of licensed nursing personnel. The successful student will be eligible for certification and to function in the field of long-term care. It also prepares the student to take the competency exam to become certified in the State of Wyoming. The C.N.A. certificate may be transferred out of state. WELD 2645 SMAW and GTAW (2 CR)This course provides students with a thorough technical understanding of Shielded Metal Arc Welding and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding preparation for pipe welding. It develops the skills necessary to produce quality groove welds on 2” and 4” schedule 80 carbon steel pipe in all positions using GTAW for the Root Pass and E7018 for fill and Cover Passes. This course is offered for S/U only.

CMAP 1500 Computer Keyboarding (1 CR)Students will develop basic touch keyboarding skills through computer instruction. This course is offered for S/U grade only.

Welder Qualification Test Training: Training is available for welders wishing to qualify under specific welding codes and specifications. This training consists of supervised practice and documentation of proper techniques, enabling the welders to overcome faulty habits. Practice specimens are made and tested, and the welders are guided toward correcting any welding faults they may have. At the end of the training week a decision can be made to test or not test with additional charges for the testing.
