Greetings from your Member of Parliament Dear Residents of Serdang, 2014 was indeed a challenging year from start to finish. In Parliament, we saw the Barisan Nasional (BN) bulldoze the bill on Goods and Services Tax (GST) in April 2014. In October, Prime Minister and Finance Minister Najib Tun Razak introduced the 2015 Budget, the 18th consecutive deficit budget for the federal government. On my part, I have raised issues at the national level pertaining to the “4Es”, namely on the Economy, Education, Elections and Environment. The Election Commission continues not to allow opposition parties to register voters on our own and has delayed the tabling of the delimitation exercise which would most probably redraw electoral boundaries in an unfair manner. The Ministry of Education experienced a major scandal when the UPSR exams for English and Mathematics papers were leaked and had to be resit. The introduction of the new school based exam, PT3, to replace the PMR exams also experienced implementation problems. On the economy, the BN government continues to massage the budget figures by introducing off-budget spending through shady government owned entities – such as Pembinaan PFI Sdn Bhd, which has racked up almost RM30 billion of debt in the past 3 years. It is not only 1MDB which uses means which are not transparent to hide government spending and bailouts. On the environment, the Ministry of Urban Well Being, Housing and Local Government continues to push for the building of an incinerator in Taman Beringin, Kepong – even though we have a bad record of properly building and maintaining small scale incinerators in Pangkor, Langkawi and Cameron Highlands. In constituency matters, the most significant challenge was the disruption of water supply in Selangor in the middle of 2014. The Balakong area was the most seriously affected with some places not receiving water for 3 weeks. A special team was set up by ADUN for Balakong, Eddie Ng, and together we coordinated the distribution of water using our own hired trucks and volunteers to the most severely affected areas. In Seri Kembangan, the introduction of the one-way street system in Jalan Besar was largely successful even though there were some initial hiccups. We continue to monitor the traffic flows and are in constant discussion with JKR Selangor to introduce more improvements. In the longer term, we hope to implement plans to upgrade and widen the roads from the Besraya / Jalan Besar interchange to Taman Universiti Indah and the yet to be opened exit to the MEX

Highway near Taman Equine. This can only be achieved with the funding and cooperation of both

state and federal governments.

JKR Selangor to introduce more improvements. In the longer term, we hope to implement plans to upgrade and widen the roads from the Besraya / Jalan Besar interchange to Taman Universiti Indah, and the yet to be opened exit to the MEX Highway near Taman Equine. This can only be achieved with the funding and cooperation of both state and federal governments. In Bangi, we continue to monitor the construction of the overpass from the SILK highway into Kajang Utama. In Kajang, we have seen proposals to upgrade the drainage system in Taman Hijau / Desa Seroja, which will hopefully solve the flooding problems there. We hope that MPKj will finalize the plans and start construction sometime this year. 2015 promises to be an even more challenging year with the introduction of the GST, continued economic challenges and the promise of even more crackdowns by the BN government. I will continue to serve you to the best of my abilities in parliamentary and constituency matters.
