Hello my fellow Koalas! My name is Marjerrie Masicat and I am your Divisional News Editor for this year! Surely, we will be seeing D25E grow stronger throughout this term.

I’m writing you to inform you about my goals and vision for this coming year. This newsletter, in my opinion, is about the members and for the members; that’s why I will be implementing many different ideas and concepts. I want to make sure that we are a united division, and by getting you guys to participate in the process of making this newsletter will definitely help with that. For each month, starting with this one, I will be asking you all to participate in surveys and some of you may be even asked for interviews. Keep an eye out for posts on the “CNH Key Club Division 25 East“ Facebook page and/or messages from me because it will most likely be me inquiring about the newsletter. (Don’t be nervous if I do ask for an interview! The conversation should go by in a breeze.)

I know the task may deem itself tedious but with all your help, this newsletter will begin to mean so much more to us all. This is also an exciting way to get to know your fellow members! You may even end up in our division newsletter somewhere so keep a look out! I definitely encourage you guys to write articles about service events you attend. Please send in visual submissions, written articles, and anything else you believe would be a lovely addition to the newsletter through email and/or Facebook message. Buzzing in Koalaty Service,Andrew ChangDivision 25 East Lieutenant Governor 2013-2014Region 7 | CNH DistrictEmail: [email protected]

Hello Division 25 East Koalas! My name is Andrew Chang and I will be serving as the Lieutenant Governor 2013-2014 of Division 25 East. I have been a proud member of Granada Hills Charter Key Club for three years. The past three years of leadership through the vehicle of service has been more than enough time for me to find the magic of service through Key Club. Such magic has compelled me to recognize the importance of Key Club in my personal life and formulate perpetual service to the K family as one of my lifelong goals.

I love Key Club not because of the physical things we produce or the donations we generate, but rather the changes we make, the beliefs we hold, the lessons we learn, the actions we take, and the power we bring to our home, school, and community. It is exactly this caring, character building leadership, and inclusiveness that I hope to implement during my term as the Lieutenant Governor.

As your Lieutenant Governor, I plan to incorporate the following goals for our division:

* Membership: 600+ members and at least 20% increase in membership * Fundraiser: over $6000 raised for the Pediatric Trauma Program * Service: 5000 service hours performed by members in our division

These numbers may seem intimidating at first, but our division has achieved so much in the past years that I know we are koalafied to strive for more. Although our division is one of the smallest in number of clubs within our district, I know we can achieve above and BEEyond many other divisions. I have complete faith that our division will be recognized as one of the best divisions within CNH history in the next District Convention. I am extremely confident in the leadership team we have during this Key Club year and I look forward to working with all of you over the term.

Apart from my passion for service, I also enjoy the science and mathematics. In the future, I hope to dedicate myself in a teaching profession because I believe that “Children: Their Future, Our Focus.”

One of my most distinguishable traits would be my cheer. I invite you to ask me how I feel during the next DCM or service event. I will be more than willing to show you my passion for this amazing organization.

05 Lieutenant Governor 2013-2014

easily and catching their foods in their paws.

For all you creative koalas out there, the time has come to design another Region 7 crew neck!! Our region family consists of: D25E Koalas, D25W Pufferfish, D16 White Tigers, D3S Wolves, and D3N Starfish

All designs will be gathered and Region 7 Key Clubbers will be able to vote on the final design. The winner will receive a free crew neck and will have the pride in seeing his or her design all across the region, or even district!

The WorldFest 2013 Earth Day Festival will be held at the beautiful outdoor setting of Woodley Park in Lake Balboa, CA. We welcome our attendees to a magnificent day filled with entertainment, education and enlightenment. The combination of great music, empowering speakers, environmental, humanitarian and animal welfare non-profits, kids’ activities and a delicious food court make for an earth-friendly experience that is sure to be inspiring and enjoyable for all.

The task coordinator position for the division leadership team is now available! Anyone is encouraged to apply! Remember that the deadline for this application will be 6PM, May 3rd. Out of the applications, Andrew will be selecting only ONE task coordinator

as the fundraising commissioner of the division leadership team. More task coordinators will be appointed later in the year.

Scott Greenberg has inspired hundreds of thousands of people with his unique blend of keynote presentations and workshops. Scott’s uncanny ability to connect with a variety of audiences and discuss universal messages about resilience, leadership and peak performance keep him in constant demand as an inspirational speaker. Presenting to over 60,000 people a year, Scott Greenberg’s diverse client list includes countless corporations, associations, government agencies, educational institutions and other groups wanting motivational speakers who both educate and entertain.

After a television program called “Life Choices” did a segment on Scott as a cancer survivor, he was invited to be the keynote speaker at a leadership conference for teens. Having been inspired by motivational speakers when he was in high school, Scott jumped at the chance. Instead of focusing on cancer, Scott combined his knowledge of story telling with his interest in human resilience to create a motivational presentation discussing the more universal issues of personal power and overcoming adversity. The response was incredible, and further requests for Scott as an inspirational speaker poured in. Scott quickly realized he could still make a living as a storyteller, but now with an added element of helping others.

Koala of the Month

Aaron Aguasfrom Kennedy High School

Division 25 East cannot ask for a more dedicated member than Aaron Aguas. His conspicuous enthusiasm

for the club meets all criteria of a Koala of the Month. Not only has he consistently participated in service

projects throughout the year, he also took a leading role in many of our events and fundraisers. During the 2013 CNH District Convention, Aaron impressed everyone

throughout the district with his construction of Kenny the Koala. Kenny the Koala is just a glimpse of the extent of effort he dedicates towards this organization and Aaron

has contributed to this division with many more ways. Aaron has inspired not only his home club members,

but also Key Club members across the division, or even the district. He continues to inspire others to develop

leadership, build character, understand inclusiveness, and care for our home, school, and community.

Aaron Aguas epitomizes the exemplary qualities of an outstanding Key Club member.

Kennedy High School

Kennedy Key Club has grown so much over the past year and its progress can only be described in one word: unBEElievable. Within the division, Kennedy Key Club has

one of the highest recruitment rate exemplifying how much work their officers has put in to ensure the success

of the club. The officers of Kennedy Key Club submits their paperwork earlier than all other clubs and show candid enthusiasm for working in this organization. In addition,

Kennedy Key Club has one of the most spirited and dedicated members within the division. Over the month

of April, Kennedy Key Club has held numerous service and fundraising projects. The officers of Kennedy Key Club even went to one of the Kiwanis meetings to establish a stronger

connection with our K family. The work of Kennedy Key Club never cease to surprise me. Therefore, Kennedy Key

Club definitely deserves the title of Club of the Month.

Sleeping. I am nocturnal and sleep at 3am on most weekdays and even later during theweekends.

Harvard, Princeton, and Yale. Medical school, law school, nothing less. Like many others, I joined Key Club for my college resume. Nevertheless, over the past years, Key Club has completely altered my personal values. Instead of a doctor/lawyer, I now aspire to become a teacher to cast a permanent impact in my community and to focus on the children and their future. I developed a passion for service and leadership and gained much more than any college experience could offer me. I gained a family.

Key Club has empowered me so much over the past years. My personal identification became something greater – a Key Club member who is competent and caring transforming communities worldwide. My scream became something more powerful – it became cheers and spirit and inspiration to other members. Key Club has given me a million waves of experience, inspiration, leadership skills, and “the feels” that I cannot express my gratitude for this organization in simple words. I have been enchanted by the magic of service — not the physical service I perform in Key Club but the spiritual service Key Club enlightens me with. Such magic lies in neither the number of hours nor the position of leadership I attain. It lies in the transformation of my trembling hands when I first made a speech in front of members to strength when I shook hands with the Kiwanis District Governor. It lies in the conversion of my hesitating footsteps when I first approached Key Clubbers of other schools to confidence when I led members in a spirit battle. The people I met in this organization and the experiences I have gained from my Key Club journey make me more than proud to present Division 25 East as not only where I lead, but why I lead.

I came to the United States three years ago. As a result, I still have difficulties in counting American coins. I count numbers in Chinese instead of English, and most often times, I do not understand American jokes.
