division 1! happy new year,

What do you get when you take 64 teen-

agers, three days at Camp Lebanon, and a dedicated group of Kiwanis leaders?

Well first off very little sleep, but more importantly Key Leader.

Key Leader is Kiwanis International's leadership education program for stu-

dents, primarily in high school. Its mis-

sion is to provide a "life-changing experi-ence that inspires young people to

achieve their personal best through ser-vice leadership.”

Hello, Division 1! As this year closes, I’ve been thinking about 2010 and all the

wonderful people I’ve met through Key Club. All of you have been

easy and fun to work with, and I know you’ve been working hard

with your members and officers. There are many great leaders in

Division 1, and you all inspire me to be a better leader. When club

elections come around in Febru-ary, the new officers your clubs will

elect will have some big shoes to fill!

Keep planning projects so that

more of your members can serve. Also, please keep publicizing Gen-

erosity Rocks, and start planning for District Convention which is

coming up in April. I hope you all enjoy the family

time and relaxation time that re-mains this winter break! Yours in Caring and Service, Andre

The six made aspects of being a key

leader were leadership, integrity, growth, respect, community, and

excellence. We learned and ex-plored these different qualities

through doing different activities and through our facilitator Wendy

who is a Kiwanian now and was past Circle K International presi-

dent. The activities we did chal-lenged us to think in different ways

about ourselves and about our community around us as well as

taught us about teamwork. Going up with no one in my

school and only two other people

in my division, I must say, I was really nervous. Of course I had no

reason to be because while up there we all treated each other like

great friends and got to meet a lot of people. The best part about the

whole thing besides our “groovy” facilitator Wendy was that every-

one there actually gave their best effort at everything and put all of

their heart in it. They did this all with a positive attitude. Key Leader

was definitely one of the best week-ends of this year.

Christopher (far right) and his neighborhood present a commu-

nity they designed at Key Leader. Neighborhoods were like dis-

cussion groups/teams that Key Leader attendees were sorted

into for the weekend.

Governor of Division 1

DIVISION 1! Long time no see! I hope you all are having a wonderful service year and an amazing winter break! Here are some words of advice for the rest of the year for seniors and officers: Do not slack off! Key Club is a building block to what college is. You’re not given a lot of time in college, and it’s possible you might not be able to catch up if you fall behind. From experi-ence, I know that in order to suc-ceed, you have to be focused, deter-mined, and diligent. For those seniors who are wait-ing for those acceptance letters, do

not fret! I remember anxiously waiting for my letters to come, and feeling so excited when I was ac-cepted to my top colleges! Just wait patiently, and you will be surprised to see what can happen. College is a great experience so far, and I am enjoying every min-ute of it. I’m sure that you will too this coming fall. Good luck with the rest of your service year, and happy holidays! Your Immediate Past Lt. Gover-nor, Abby Leung

After we return to school from win-

ter break, there will only be two weeks remaining until Generosity

Rocks! Though it may seem difficult, it is

still possible to encourage your club members and your fellow officers to

support our divisional project to benefit Children’s Specialized Hos-

pital.

Go with your fellow officers! Use

Facebook. Invite them and other friends to the Facebook event page.

Make the Generosity Rocks logo

your Facebook profile picture.

Call your friends, even those outside of Key Club,

and ask them to go with you.

Please continue to ask talent musicians in your school to

perform. Remember—they do not have to be Key Club members.

Tell them about Children’s Spe-cialized Hospital, our District Pro-

ject for the fifth year in a row, and that by performing, they’re helping

the over 16,000 patients that check in at CSH.

Tell your talented friends and classmates that in competing in

Generosity Rocks, they have the opportunity to perform in front of

people outside their own school! If

they advance to the higher rounds, they will be able to

perform to an even larger audience.

Right now, there are four perform-ances. A few members from the Egg

Harbor Township High School will be meeting with me to discuss plan-

ning.
