Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Today, on the First Sunday of Advent, we begin a new liturgical year; that is, a new journey of the People of God with Jesus Christ, our Shepherd, who guides us through history toward the fulfillment of the Kingdom of God. Therefore, this day has a special charm, it makes us experience deeply the meaning of history. We rediscover the beauty of all being on a journey: the Church, with her vocation and mission, and all humanity, peoples, civilizations, cultures, all on a journey across

the paths of time.

But where are we journeying? Is there a common goal? And what is this goal? The Lord responds to us through the prophet Isaiah, saying: “It shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the house of the Lord shall be established as the highest of the mountains, and shall be raised above the hills; and all the nations shall flow to it, and many peoples shall come, and say: ‘Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths’”(2:2-3). This is what Isaiah says regarding the goal toward which we are traveling. It is a universal pilgrimage toward a common goal, which in the Old Testament is Jerusalem, where the Temple of the Lord rises. For from there, from Jerusalem came the revelation of the Face of God and of his Law. Revelation found its fulfillment in Jesus Christ, and he, the Word made flesh, became the “Temple of the Lord”: he is both guide and goal of our pilgrimage, of the pilgrimage of the entire People of God; and in his light the other peoples may also walk toward the Kingdom of justice, toward the Kingdom of peace. The Prophet continues: “They shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more” (2:4). … But when will this occur? What a beautiful day it shall be, when weapons are dismantled in order to be transformed into tools for work! What a beautiful day that shall be! And this is possible! Let us bet on hope, on the hope for peace, and it will be possible!

This journey never comes to an end. Just as in each of our lives we always need to begin again, to get up again, to rediscover the meaning of the goal of our lives, so also for the great human family it is always necessary to rediscover the common horizon toward which we are journeying. The horizon of hope! This is the horizon that makes for a good journey. The season of Advent, which we begin again today, restores this horizon of hope, a hope which does not disappoint for it is founded on God’s Word. A hope which does not disappoint, simply because the Lord never disappoints! He is faithful! He does not disappoint! Let us think about and feel this beauty.

The model of this spiritual disposition, of this way of being and journeying in life, is the Virgin Mary. A simple girl from the country who carries within her heart the fullness of hope in God! In her womb, God’s hope took flesh, it became man, it became history: Jesus Christ. … Let us allow ourselves to be guided by her, she who is mother and knows how to guide us. Let us allow ourselves to be guided by her during this season of active waiting and watchfulness.

From the Holy Father Pope Francis...

HAND CARVED in BETHLEHEM

PLEASE STOP BY THE TABLES OF RELIGIOUS WARES (Nativity set, rosaries, statues, crucifixes, charms, etc.)

AFTER ALL THE MASSES THE WEEK END OF December 19 & 20.

Ayman Khair represents about 140 Christian families from Bethlehem. These families have been dependent upon sales of their hand carved religious articles to tourists of the Holy Land. Due to the conflict in the Middle East, the tourism has been cut off. In order to survive, they have turned to Christian communities in the United States to purchase their articles.

These hand carved religious articles are spectacular. Carved from wood of the sacred Olive tree, this workmanship has been traditional for these families for hundreds of years. It is hoped that through the efforts of Mr. Khair that these families have a little income and are able to stay living in the Holy Land. Amazingly enough, The Christian population dropped from 22 % to less than 2% in the last 30 years. Thank you in advance for your support.

Note : These Religious Article make great Christmas Gifts!

Perpetual Adoration

St. Teresa of Avila knew that human beings think spontaneously in terms of time and space. She felt it extremely helpful to direct our attention to God in some localized place. We may think of God as beside us, in the tabernacle, at the crucifix, or wherever there is a sacred image... In addition to the Hours Chart we have posted, you can go to www.cancershrine.org and then to the Adoration Page and click on the monstrance to see where we need help. There is also a link to the registration form that can be printed and submitted to the Parish Office. Call Dick at (602) 300-8562 or

O come, O come Emmanuel, and ransom captive Israel, That mourns in lonely exile here, until the Son of God appear.

I am the Bread of Life. All who eat this Bread will never die. I am God's love revealed. I am broken that you might be healed.

All who eat of this heavenly Bread; All who drink this cup of the covenant. You will live forever for I will raise you up.

No one who comes to Me shall ever hunger again. No one who believes shall ever thirst. All that the Father draws shall come to Me; And I will give them rest.

Find us ready, Lord, not standing still. Find us working and loving and doing Your will. Find us ready, Lord, faithful in love. Building the kingdom, that's here and above. Building the kingdom of mercy and love.

We must wait for the Lord, for we know not the time. So here and today, we gather and pray, discovering love in our midst.

We must make straight the path. God's love revealed. With sin cast aside, God's mercy alive, fear not for here is your God.

Lifting up those bowed down, we prepare for our God. Rejoice in the Lord, for hope has been born, in hearts where our God finds a home.

Saying "yes" to the Lord, God's will shall be done. With hearts free from fear, salvation is near, For all things have hope with our God!

The Lord will bestow his bounty, and our earth shall yield its increase.

Holy, Holy Holy Lord, God of Hosts.

Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest.

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.

Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.

Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, grant us peace.

Save us, Saviour of the world, for by your Cross and Resurrection

you have set us free.

Composer: Irish Traditional "Star of the County Down" Arr. by Rory Cooney Lyricist: Rory Cooney Based on Luke 1:46-58 © 1990 GIA Publications, Inc My soul cries out with a joyful shout that the God of my heart is great, and my spirit sings of the wondrous things that you bring to the ones who wait. You fixed your sight on your servant's plight, and my weakness you did not spurn, so from east to west shall your name be blessed. Could the world be about to turn.

My heart shall sing of the day you bring. Let the fires of your justice burn. Wipe away all tears, for the dawn draws near, and the world is about to turn. Though I am small, my God, my all, you work great things in me, and your mercy will last from the depths of the past to the end of the age to be. Your very name puts the proud to shame, and to those who would for you yearn, you will show your might, put the strong to flight, for the world is about to turn.

From the halls of pow'r to the fortress tow'r, not a stone will be left on stone. Let the king beware for your justice tears ev'ry tyrant from his throne. The hungry poor shall weep no more, for the food they can never earn: There are tables spread, ev'ry mouth be fed, for the world is about to turn.

Though the nations rage from age to age, we remember who holds us fast: God's mercy must deliver us from the conqueror's crushing grasp. This saving word that our forebears heard is the promise which holds us bound, 'til the spear and rod can be crushed by God, who is turning the world around.

Wait for the Lord, whose day is near Wait for the Lord: be strong, take heart!

M. l'abbé (Simon-Joseph) Pellegrin, Translated by Sister Mary of St. Philip Adapted by Jarrod Townsend

O come, divine Messiah! The world in silence waits the day When hope shall sing its triumph, and sadness flee away.

Sweet Savior haste; come, come to earth, Dispel the night and show thy face, and bid us hail the dawn of grace. O come, divine Messiah! The world in silence waits the day When hope shall sing its triumph, and sadness flee away.

You’ll come in peace and meekness, And lowly will your cradle be; All veiled in human weakness thy majesty we’ll see.

O Thou, whom nations sigh for, whom seer and prophet long foretold, Wilt break the captive fetters; redeem the long-lost fold.

Queridos hermanos y hermanas,
