THERE IS A NATIONAL DOMESTIC VIOLENCE HOTLINE Even in the last five years contact volume has increased by 43%. This is a somber reminder of just how pervasive this issue is. But the courage of survivors is something to celebrate. Survivors speak up and reach out for support, regardless of barriers – like a global pandemic – and at risk of not being believed by those they love. As more survivors speak out about their experiences, it is clear that domestic violence is not a private matter – it is a public health crisis It’s more important than ever for survivors to know that they are not alone. If you or someone you know is affected by relationship abuse, 24/7 support is available. Call: 800-799-SAFE (7233). Or Chat: “thehotline.org”. Text: “START” to 88788. O Chat: “thehotline.org”. Envíe un mensaje de texto: "START" al 88788. (de THE HOTLINE SUCEDIENDO, OTOÑO 2021)

A PRAYER OF ST. COLUMBAN (St. Columban was an Irish monk who, as a missionary in Europe in the 6th century, founded many monasteries and revitalized the Church. He is the patron of the Columban Fathers who are here at St. Mary’s) “Lord, God, cut down and root out whatever the Adversary plants in me. With my sins cleared away may you sow good sense in my mind, and goodness in my heart, so that I can seek you and serve you completely in word and deed, and understand how to carry out Christ’s will. Grant thoughtfulness, grant love, grant purity, grant faith; give me all that you know will help my soul. Lord, work good in me and provide me with what you know I need. Amen.” m

HOW LONG DOES GRIEF LAST? When people ask me, “How long does grief last?” I often answer, “As long as it takes.” In one sense your grief will always be with you. When C.S. Lewis lost his wife, he wrote that losing a loved one is like having your leg amputated. You don’t get over an amputated leg. The wound may heal, but the leg will never grow back. You’ll always have that absence in your life, and you’ll always walk with a limp. In another sense, grief does not end. But eventually the intense pain subsides, memories bring more smiles than tears, and the future appears more hopeful than foreboding. How long does it take to get there? It can be years. Or less. There’s only your unique and personal time frame. That‘s the only one that really matters for you. Many people describe grief as waves from a storm crashing onto the shore. At first, they are very large. But gradually they get smaller and come farther apart. Right now the most important thing you can do is not let anyone – including yourself – pressure you to stop grieving. You can’t stop the waves of grief from hitting you any more than you could stop storm waves from rolling onto the shore. They need to come and go until they gradually subside. Grief simply takes time. It can’t be rushed or hurried. Take all the time you need and let the waves come. (from Finding Hope and Healing, by Kenneth C. Haugk)

The wording for the

Lamb of God is taken directly from the Bible:

“The next day he (John the Baptist) saw Jesus

coming toward him, and said. Behold the Lamb of

God, who takes away the sin of the world!”

— John:29

Where is it in Scripture?

Make acts of

faith in the Real Presence of Jesus.

Silently pray the prayer of Saint Thomas, “My

Lord and my God!” (John 20:28). If you struggle

with belief in the Eucharist, pray, “I believe; help

my unbelief!” (Mark 9:24).
