Go Canada Go!!!! On Friday February 9th E.T. Crowle will be having Red and White Day. We are asking the students to wear either red or white to support our athletics as they prepare to compete in Phuong South Korea. On Wednesday, February 14, 2018, your child will be bringing home his or her First Term report card. The report card represents an opportunity to share with you the progress that your child has made, as well as his or her learning needs. The grades on the report card are based on many hours of instruction and assessment. Teachers have incorporated student needs, interests and learning styles into the daily classroom lessons and activities. Assessments and evaluations have been carefully planned to meet the curriculum expectations and learning goals. Students have had numerous and varied opportunities to demonstrate their learning. The letter grades (Grades 1 - 6) or percentages (Grades 7 & 8) that you will see on the report cards are an end-of-term evaluation of what your child has learned since September. Be sure to celebrate your child’s successes, and remember, there is always room to grow and learn. The Kindergarten report cards are called a Communication of Learning. The Kindergarten Communication of Learning is a summary of your child’s learning in relation to the overall expectations at a given point in time. Children in the Full-Day Early Learning-Kindergarten program are expected to demonstrate achievement of the overall expectations by the end of the two years. Since children entering this program vary in their levels of development and previous learning experiences, it is likely that they will demonstrate a considerable range of achievement as they progress towards meeting the overall expectations by the end of the program. When reading the report cards, you will be able to see your child’s strengths, needs and next steps. The next steps for Term Two may include items for your child and the classroom teacher or it may include items that could be done at home. Use the report card to understand your child as a learner and as an opportunity to talk with him or her. It is very important that both home and school work together as a partnership. When both home and school work closely together student performance and achievement increase. Please read your child’s report card thoroughly. In collaboration with your son or daughter, please complete page three of the report card and send it back to school (Grades 1 – 8). If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s teacher. Most of all, encourage your child to talk about his or her learning, and talk about ways in which to build on their successes and set new goals.

Message From Our Trustee
With report cards coming home, this is a good time of year to review your child ’ s progress and to set goals for the rest of the school year.
As trustees, our goals are set out in the Board Multi-Year Plan. In the coming months, trustees will be reviewing and updating this plan. This
process will include opportunities for public input, and trustees will be out in the communities talking about this. More information will be shared
about this in the spring.
Developing and reviewing the Multi-Year Plan is just one of our responsibilities as publicly elected officials. Trustee responsibilities also
include hiring the Director of Education, setting Board policies and the annual budget, and communicating with the public.
This is a good time to learn more about the role of trustees with the next municipal election taking place later this year on October 22, 2018.
York Region District School Board has 12 trustees, elected by ratepayers. As a trustee, listening and communicating with families is an
important part of my role. Students, families and members of the public are welcome to attend and observe any public Board, Advisory or
Board Committee meetings and to share their views with us on policy and Board governance.
As we move into the second half of the year, I hope that you are seeing evidence of your child ’ s learning and progress, and f inding
opportunities to get involved in their learning and the life of the school.
I wish you all the best for a successful second term.

Tournament. The whole team contributed to victories in our two round-robin games, which secured a bye into the semi-finals. The team stepped up, winning handily on route to an epic final against Black Walnut. Tragically, the back and forth match ended in heartbreak 15-17 in the 3rd set and deciding set. Ms Maingot, Ms Recalis, Mr. MacDonald & Mr. Brown would like to thank the following team members for their commitment and positive attitude! Mariah, Aleena, Megan J., Vanessa, Kenzie, Sierra, Jack, Gavin, Daniel, Keegan, Anthony and Markus.
