The two priorities for the North Axholme Ward
are :-
Crowle Town Centre- Anti-social behaviour and vehicle
nuisance.
Humberside Police have now introduced a Dispersal Or-
der in Crowle town centre to help tackle the on going
concern over anti-social behaviour in the area. The Order
gives Police officers and Police Community Support Offi-
cers the power to disperse people who are congregating
together in such a way that likely to result in members of
the public being intimidated, harassed, alarmed or dis-
tressed. The dispersal area covers Potts Lane, the Market Place, Johnsons Lane and the grounds of St
Oswalds Church Church Street Crowle.
The implementation of the dispersal order has reduced calls for service and the youths are now fully
aware of its existence. Residents have commented on the reduction of anti-social behaviour in the area.
The Neighbourhood team are looking for the support of parents to address these community concerns
with their children, and for parents to take responsibility for knowing where they are on an evening and
not allowing them to drink alcohol.
The Crowle Youth Club, Street Sports and other activities are provided by the local and town council.
Crowle Town Council are currently looking into what facilities they may be able to provide in the future
for the young people.
Trentside and Chapel Lane Keadby – Suspicious incidents/fires/damage.
There have been a number of calls regarding the suspicious incidents occurring at the above locations with
persons wandering around at all hours of the day and night. There have also been a number of small fires
in derelict buildings on Trentside and damage has been caused to the flood walls.
The Neighbourhood Policing Team are continuing to patrol the area. Two males have been charged and
bailed to Court regarding theft of property from farm premises on Trentside, one of the same men has
been issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice for wasting Police time after making a false report of theft of a
motor vehicle, another male has been given a caution for theft of scrap metal from industrial premises on
Station Road and through Police liaison with the Humberside Fire and Rescue, one company has arranged
security on site whilst barns are demolition from their unoccupied premises on Trentside to prevent fur-
ther offences of criminal damage and theft.
We are committed to providing a wide variety of opportunities to engage with you on a frequent basis
and ensure consultation and agreement upon local priorities. This provides an opportunity to update you
and discuss progress. It is intended that at least one published meeting will be held in the neighbourhood
team each month. This will ensure you know where you can attend to engage and work with your local
team. Meetings will include traditional public meetings at school and village halls, council meetings and
community centres. To ensure that we consult as widely as possible we are always seeking new and inno-
vative ways of communicating with the community and welcome any views or suggestions you may have.
On Tuesday 28th September the Police Events Bus visited the villages of Ealand, Luddington, Amcotts and
Keadby in order for members of the community to visit and discuss any local issues or concerns. The
number of residents visiting to speak to the Neighbourhood Team was disappointing and consideration
will have to be given about continuing with this form of community engagement.
A Police walk about surgery is held the first Monday of every month. The next two walkabout surgeries
are on Monday 1st October 2010 and Monday 6th December 2010 and will be around Crowle Town cen-
tre. This will increase the amount of contact the community has with the local policing team and give
residents the opportunity to tell us of their concerns and relate any information they may have about local
issues.

The Neighbourhood Action Team was held on Tuesday 31st August 2010 at Althorpe and Keadby School.
The date of the next meeting is Tuesday 30th November 2010 at the same location. Although not a ‗ pub-
lic ‗ meeting, residents were encouraged to raise concerns or issues with their community representatives
( Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinator, Parish Councillor or member of the policing team ) so they could
be discussed and so community priorities identified and appropriate action considered.
The Neighbourhood Team and the Roads Policing Department have continued to deal with anti-social use
of motor vehicles in Crowle especially around the Potts lane car park area. One driver has had his vehicle
seized following a second incident of careless and inconsiderate driving.
Two males have been charged and bailed to Magistrates Court regarding burglary to farm buildings in
Crowle. A male has been charged and bailed to Magistrates Court for the unlawful possession of a shot-
gun. A male has been charged and bailed to Magistrates Court for assault and criminal damage.
A male have been cautioned for disorderly behaviour. A male driver has been given a Section 59 verbal
waning regarding an incident of careless and inconsiderate driving. A second offence will result in the sei-
zure of the vehicle.
If anyone has any issues or concerns in their community or has any information regarding who is responsi-
ble for crime in our area, please can they contact PC Godley or any of the Neighbourhood Team and any
information provided will be dealt with in the strictest confidence.
Working with Pc Graham Godley are your Police Community Support Officers Paul Fearon and Wendy
Frear who regularly patrols the North Ward area of the Isle and will be happy to discuss any community
issues with you. Please feel free to stop and speak with them or alternatively contact either of us via 0845
60 60 222 or by e-mail graham.godley, paul.fearon or wendy.frear @humberside.pnn.police.uk.

The Isle of Axholme Where You Live Your Local History
Adapted by Anthony Catherall
The Drainage of the Isle continued..
The drainage of the Cornish tin mines greatly influenced the drainage of the Isle of Axholme. The introduction of pumping engines brought about a new era in the history of the drainage of the Isle. The first pumping engine was installed at Misterton Soss after the flood of 1828. In 1837 Sir Robert Sheffield installed an engine draining Butterwick South Moor. In 1858 Bull Hassocks pumping station was opened and Dirtness in 1867. At Dirtness the engine was renewed in 1928 and the present electrically driven pumps were installed in 1952. Other pumping stations include Snow Sewer, Candy Farm, Goodcop, Tunnel Pits (one of the newest, built in 1962) and of course Keadby, the key pumping station where most of the Isle’s water is pumped into the Trent. The present six Keadby pumps date from1940 and can lift 102 million gallons a day, through thirteen and a half feet each. The area drained by Keadby pumping station is 93,430 acres. Engineers of the Trent River Board are constantly making improvements to the drainage. In 1972 the Skyers drain west of Epworth Turbary was dug to feed a small pumping station into the South Level Engine Drain’ Some of Vermuyden’s original drains are still in operation with the modification such as: the New River Torne the New Idle Drain from Idle Stop to Dirtness Dutch River to Goole some dry channels from Pilfrey Bridge to Althorpe. Other items that can be seen in connection with the history of drainage include, the old course of the River Idle west of Tunnel Pits the old course of the Don in Eastoft village, and as marked on a two and half one inch to I mile map showing its course along parish boundaries. Vermuyden’s headquarters at Santoft – on the left well set back from the road near the crossroads. Flowers for Someone Special
Do you know someone special? Someone who has gone the extra mile for others or someone who just deserves something nice.
I would like to nominate Mrs Glenys Arrand of Croft Farm, Cross Street,

Crowle and Ealand and goes as far as Haxey and Westwoodside and other
neighbouring villages. Nothing it too much trouble for her,
taking them to church, hospital or just a run out in the car. I am sure many
people would like to thank her in this way.
Thank you from a resident of Crowle Ann Culpin
The Arrow and Jackie’s Floral Designs would love to send someone special bouquet. Listen to Trax FM in the morning to hear the nominations. Let us know who they are and why they deserve a bouquet.

The new season at Axholme Camera Club got off to a good start with
several new members joining. Club Secretary Joyce Hooley has been busy all summer
booking some very interesting speakers for the coming months, and with workshops, members' evenings
and competitions the programme is varied, full of interest and activity.
The first speaker was Club member Geoff Trinder ARPS, a wildlife photographer who shared his
knowledge and showed his work in an inspiring and fascinating talk, Photographing Birds in Flight.
He was followed by John Jones, equally knowledgeable in his field, Life in the Darkness. John, along with
his 80 year old assistant, has been studying the living things in a disused drift mine in Derbyshire, recording
his findings over the last 10 years. Spiders, Moths, Bats, Fungi and other things found in the dark, damp
conditions underground may not be everyone's favourite things, but John had such enthusiasm for his
subject, and a wealth of information, with a dash of humour that the members were thoroughly educated
and entertained.
Gary Brown, a local man, brought along his equipment and talked about his work as an Events
photographer. Many people think of turning their hobby into a business, and Gary has done this, with help
from his daughter Katy. It was a
very interesting evening, but
dispelled any idea that this
might be an easy option for
fellow photographers.
So far, there has been one
competition, an Open Subject,,
as usual, was very well
attended. The judge, Alan
Robson FRPS APAGB travelled
from Selby to view and
comment on the prints.
George Fiddler did well with a
win and a 2nd place, also Jean
Goodburne, Albert Phillipson,
Harry Snow and Judy Newton.
On November 9th, everyone is
invited to attend a presentation
by Peter Baker LRPS, DPAGB.
His projected images ( audio
visual ) entitled 'Walk on the
Wild Side ( Through the Eyes of a Fox) promises to
be a very entertaining evening. All welcome at
7.30pm, Haxey Church Hall, admission £1.50 to
include refreshments. Come along and bring a
friend.
