Tuition rates have nearly tripled since 2000, making it hard for some to attend or continue college. According to the group, stoptuitionhikes.com, the Ballot Initiative would... 1. Reduce tuition rates at Idaho’s universities and colleges by 22% through an across the board scholarship for all in-state, undergradu- ate students. 2. Provide an additional $7 million to the state’s com- munity college system as these institutions serve as a vital pathway to education for people in Idaho’s most remote country terrain. 3. Provide an additional $7 million to Idaho’s statewide tobacco use prevention and cessation programs. This would be funded by an ad- ditional $1.50 cigarette tax and an additional 12% tax on the wholesale price of other tobacco products. Official statistics place Idaho’s average student debt near $27,000, but Ida- ho (like every other state) Volume 39 ~ Number 48 News from the Heart of Idaho Camas • Lincoln • Gooding CourierNews.webs.com Now on FaceBook facebook.com/pages/The-Courier-News ,2015 December 2 NEWS
