Group Practices Hands-On Environmental Clean-UpSARATOGA CO. - A local group called Friends of theKayaderosseras believes in doing environmental clean-ups,rather than just talking about them. Two times each year the vol-unteer organization conducts clean-ups of some of the public ac-cess sites along the Kayaderosseras Creek and its tributaries. Itis time for the Fall Clean-up, to improve the creekside environ-ment before winter sets in and the snow flies. Members of thepublic with the same “can do” attitude are invited to grab theirwork gloves and assemble at Ballston Spaʼs Kelley Park Pavilionat 9am on Saturday, November 2nd. In case of significant rain,the work day will take place the following Saturday, November9th, at the same time and place. In honor of Veteranʼs Day,Monday, November 11, TheLake George Arts Project hasinvited local poet Marilyn Mc-Cabe to discuss and show hervideo-poem “At FreemanʼsFarm.” Video-poetry is a termused to describe a wide rangeof multimedia presentationsthat combine poetry, imagesand sound. This video-poemor cinepoem, combines the po-etry of Marilyn McCabe withthe words and recollections ofarea veterans, with imagesfrom the Saratoga battlefieldfrom videographer Peter Ve-radi, a Vietnam veteran him-self. Marilyn McCabe is a SaratogaSprings poet whose books ofpoems include Perpetual Mo-tion (Word Works, 2012) andRugged Means of Grace (Fin-ishing Line Press, 2011). Herpoem "On Hearing the Call toPrayer over the MarcellusShale on Easter Morning" wasawarded the Orlando Prizefrom A Room of Her OwnFoundation. Her video-poem"At Freeman's Farm" was cre-ated as a result of a New YorkState Council on the Arts grantshe received in 2012.
