Because we have had such a long delay since our last

Crossbeam, I am making a fresh start with the prayer

list. All the prayer requests listed here have been

made since April 15, 2020. This leaves off some

people who have been on the list for some time, and

maybe still need to be on.

If you have a friend or loved one who has been

dropped, but still needs prayers, please send me an

email at [email protected], and I will put them

back on the list. Thank you.

THE CROSSBEAM

Dear Friends in Christ,

We have a lot to be thankful for! For that reason, over the last couple

weeks I have often heard the refrain of a catchy hymn in my mind: “Count

your many blessings, name them one by one; count your many blessings,

see what God has done.” As I count the many ways God has blessed our

congregation recently, at the top of the list are the two amazing people we

are hiring as staff members to lead and grow some of our most important

ministries.

Starting July 1, Jamie Manzi-Moore will transition to become the NEW Director of Music

and Worship Ministry.

Then, starting August 3, Jenna Trenbeath will join the staff as the NEW Director of Children

and Family Ministry.

Plans are coming together for Jenna and Jamie to be officially installed in their new roles

during worship this August – likely Sunday, August 2. Please watch for this announcement

and plan to join us that day to CELEBRATE, thank God for their callings, and ask God’s

continued blessing on our shared ministry through their gifts and leadership among us.

The thought of this good news fills my mind with another refrain, this time from Philippians,

“Rejoice in the lord always. I will say I it again: Rejoice! …Do not be anxious about

anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to

God.” To that end, please join me now in singing or saying one more well-known prayer of

thanksgiving in the words of the Doxology:

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;

Praise Him, all creatures here below;

Praise Him above, ye heavenly host;

Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. AMEN.

Sincerely in Christ,

Pastor Erik

FOUR CORE SERVICE PARTNERS

Mission Partner Spotlight: Sheridan Story

Sheridan Story was founded to ensure that students from families with food insecurity had access to meals over

the weekend. As a result of COVID-19 and the recent damage to grocery stores in south Minneapolis, the need

for food has only intensified. Sheridan Story has been at the forefront of ensuring that food is available to

communities in need. From March 13-May 13, Sheridan Story delivered more than 1 million meals which is the

equivalent to what they usually provide in an entire year.

CCLC is the sponsor for meals for students at Olson Elementary, and we made a commitment to contributing

$3,010 to Sheridan Story this year. We did not have the opportunity to have an in-person “Sheridan Story

Sunday” as part of our worship this spring, so we are reaching out to you now asking you to make a special

donation to support their work during this critical time. You can help CCLC meet its pledge by writing a check

to CCLC and marking “Sheridan” in the memo line or donate online through the give button on our website and

choosing Sheridan Story in the To field.

UPDATE: Ways CCLC can jump in to help our community in this time of need!

The CCLC Church Council wants to remind you of the importance of helping our neighbors in need. At their

June meeting, the Council took the following actions supporting the work of our Four Core Service Providers:

$1000 to VEAP – from the general fund

$905 to Oasis for Youth – from the dedicated fund

$764 to Sheridan Story – from the general fund to make up the remainder on our pledge

$2000 to Tapestry in February—annual budget item from general fund

What Can You Do? Monetary Donations can be made on our website by clicking on the give button at the top of each page.

Pick the organization in the To drop down.

Volunteer - There are shifts available for volunteers to pack food. For VEAP—go to veap.org and

volunteer and/or for Sheridan Story, go to thesheridanstory.org and click on get involved.

Shop on Amazon—Oasis for Youth always has a wish list to make shopping easy.

Follow each group online to keep updated on their needs!

WORSHIP AT CCLC

Calling all musicians, young or old!

You are invited to participate in our Summer parking lot

services. Whether you’re a beginner, or a seasoned

musician, we want you to help enhance our worship

services with your gift of music. We are looking for

people to share their musical gifts at prelude time before

the services, special music during the services, and

postlude music after services. If you’d like to participate

in this way, or if you have questions, don’t hesitate to

reach out to Jamie at 952-239-6730.

“Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your

heart to the Lord.” Ephesians 5:19

Watch with us online - We will livestream the service so you can watch

at home at 10am. A recording of the service will also be available and

remain on the website after the livestream to watch at your convenience.

The easiest way to find the service is to visit - http://www.cclcmn.org/

perfect for families with kids of all ages, focusing on family activities for preschoolers through 5th grade. We

will center on Service, Social Justice, Caring for God, Others and Ourselves. There will be skits, music,

crafts, service projects and more!

To signup to participate virtually from home, sign up on our website at cclcmn.org/vbs.html, you will also

find a link on the home page. And know this: this year’s VBS is FREE to all who want to participate!

Giving - Did You Know...?

new information on tax deductions from the CARES ACT

STANDARD DEDUCTION OPTION:

Up to $300 per taxpayer ($600 for a married couple) in annual charitable contributions. This is available only to

people who take the standard deduction (for taxpayers who do not itemize their deductions). It is an “above

the line” adjustment to income that will reduce a donor’s adjusted gross income (AGI), and thereby reduce

taxable income.

NEW CHARITABLE DEDUCTION LIMITS:

As part of the bill, individuals and corporations that itemize can deduct much greater amounts of their

contributions.

Individuals can elect to deduct donations up to 100% of their 2020 AGI (up from 60% previously).

Congratulations 2020 Graduates!

The CrossBeam

The last time I sat down to

write for the Crossbeam we

had just gone into shut down

mode for the pandemic. That

article was never printed

because of the shutdown. I

started by wishing you a

Happy Easter in the Christian

tradition – Christ is risen. He

is risen indeed. I stated then

that it might be the only

opportunity I had to wish you all a happy Easter,

because we didn’t even know if we would be able to

worship together by Easter. Well, now it’s June and

we are finally able to worship together in the parking

lot. I hope you are all joining us either in the parking

lot or online. The services have been wonderful, and

it is so good to see the faces, even with masks, of all

our church friends.

We were scheduled to have a blood drive at church

on May 3, which didn’t happen, as the bloodmobiles

are not being used during the pandemic. They are not

large enough to social distance appropriately. If you

are a regular blood donor, please call your nearest

blood donor center and make an appointment to give

there. Coronavirus patients don’t need blood, but

cancer patients, some surgical patients, people who

have been in accidents, people with bleeding for any

reason, still need blood. If you are healthy you can

give. Please touch lives with the love of God in this

way.

The Tuesday morning Bible study has resumed. We

meet in the fellowship hall at 10:15 on Tuesday

morning in chairs that are spaced at least six feet

apart. We do study God’s word, but we also spend a

lot of time laughing, because it is so necessary for our

mental and emotional health at this time.

Continue to stay safe and healthy, follow the

guidelines for masks, handwashing and social

distancing, get outside and exercise. We are blessed

in Bloomington with many beautiful trails through

the parks.

When I am afraid, I will trust in you. In God, whose

word I praise, in God I trust; I will not be afraid.

What can mortal man do to me? Psalm 56:3-4
