What do you think lies on the other side?’ The doctor says, ‘I don’t know.’ The man says, ‘We go to the same church. You’ve dealt with death a lot more than someone like me. Surely you have some idea.’ At that point there came a scratching on the examining room door. The doctor opened it and in bounded his dog. The doctor says, ‘This is my dog. He’s never been in this room before. He had no idea what was inside. He just knew that his master was in here, and when I opened the door, he came in without fear. I know little of what is on the other side of death, but I believe one thing — my Master is there, and that’s enough!’ The season of Pentecost is upon us – a time of growth, a time to renew our faith, to hear the stories again as we continue our own journeys. A WORD FROM THE PASTOR…
“A man with a terminal disease is in the examining room with his doctor. He says, ‘Doc, I’m afraid to die. What do you think lies on the other side?’ The doctor says, ‘I don’t know.’ The man says, ‘We go to the same church. You’ve dealt with death a lot more than someone like me. renew our faith, to hear the stories again as we continue our own
journeys. How good it is to know that we can live freely and
joyfully because our Master – God – is on the other side.
On a personal note, I will celebrate 20 years in the ministry on July
7th. I was ordained at my home church in New London, Minnesota:
First Lutheran of Norway Lake. It was a lovely day; the weather
was perfect, my friends and family were there. I left that
Wednesday for Buffalo; my parents following me with the few
possessions that I had. I began at Holy Trinity on July 15th, and I
presided at my first Lord’s Supper on July 21st.
I don’t know where these 20 years have gone, but western New
York has become my home and I am blessed to be serving God and
all of you at St. John’s. It has been a journey, and I know I look
forward to whatever comes next. After all, the Master is waiting
for us wherever we go!

Women of the ELCA After enjoying a lovely evening at the Asa Ransom House in June
with other members of our church family, we are ready to take a
few months off and enjoy this wonderful time of year. (But aren't
they all!?)
We look forward to seeing more of our church friends, now that
there is only one service, at the coffee hour following the
service. WELCA will be helping to provide the refreshments
on August 14. Ladies, please mark your calendar for this, especially
if you have not contributed already.
Hope you enjoyed this short and sweet article, it doesn't happen
too often! Just try to remember all those blessings we have so
that you can enjoy and share them all summer and all year long!

Ladies Aid
Summer is upon us and that means we will not be meeting until
September. Just a reminder that we will be sharing the summer
refreshment date of August 14 with our WELCA friends so if you
are unable to contribute or help clean up then, it will not be a
problem. There should be enough food and helper hands. We look
forward to seeing chatting with our church friends over the
summer during this fellowship
time.
Take a few moments this summer to remember friends and family
who are shut in, ill or just in need of a friendly voice. It will be a
great way to spend a few minutes for you and the recipient.
