A WORD FROM THE PASTOR…

“A man with a terminal disease is in the examining room with his doctor. He says, ‘Doc, I’m afraid to die. Women of the ELCA After enjoying a lovely evening at the Asa Ransom House in June

with other members of our church family, we are ready to take a

few months off and enjoy this wonderful time of year. (But aren't

they all!?)

We look forward to seeing more of our church friends, now that

there is only one service, at the coffee hour following the

service. WELCA will be helping to provide the refreshments

on August 14. Ladies, please mark your calendar for this, especially

if you have not contributed already.

Hope you enjoyed this short and sweet article, it doesn't happen

too often! Just try to remember all those blessings we have so

that you can enjoy and share them all summer and all year long!

Ladies Aid

Summer is upon us and that means we will not be meeting until

September. Just a reminder that we will be sharing the summer

refreshment date of August 14 with our WELCA friends so if you

are unable to contribute or help clean up then, it will not be a

problem. There should be enough food and helper hands. We look

forward to seeing chatting with our church friends over the

summer during this fellowship

time.

Take a few moments this summer to remember friends and family

who are shut in, ill or just in need of a friendly voice. It will be a

great way to spend a few minutes for you and the recipient.

found something to their taste.

Altar Guild

Periodically I write in this article that the guild is in

need of new members, well now is the time. Please,

prayerfully consider joining our group to help prepare

the altar for communion at our worship services. This

only takes a small amount of your time, one month of the

year. It’s easy and a great way to give a little of your

time back to God’s service and our church. We welcome

women, men, husbands and wives or a family team of a

parent or parents and a confirmed child. Please think

about it and contact Connie Arnold, Nancy Weber or any

guild member.

Ladies, remember the Penny Sale on September 22nd.

Door will open at 6:15 pm., sale starting at 7 pm. More

information will follow at our August meeting and in the

September Crossbeam.

Our next meeting is August 28th after church.

Hostesses will be Sylvia Delaney and Barbara Kwiecinski.

Taking care of the altar in:

July—Maxine Steiner and various helpers

Enjoy your summer!

Our first day of Sunday Church School will be September 11th. As a

911 tribute, we ask our St. John’s family to collect new sample and

mini size toiletries this summer and bring them to our first day of

classes. What’s needed? Body soap, shampoo, conditioner,

moisturizers, toothbrushes, toothpaste and deodorant. Our

collections will benefit local people in need.

Looking ahead:

July 31st: SCS Staff meeting immediately following the 10am

service. We’ll review our classes and courses for the coming

year.

Keep an eye out for our Student packets which will be mailed in

August.

September 11th: Our first day of classes, meet your teachers in

the parish hall. Parents please stay for the first 15 minutes

for a picture with your child!

September 11th: Teacher installation at the 10:45 service.

October 30th: Unity Sunday, no classes. See you in church

with your family!

December 18th: Christmas program during the 10:45 service.

HELP WANTED: Sunday Church School is looking for you! We’re in

need of a person or team of people that would run our SCS

openings! Openings are held in the parish hall at 9am on class days

and run 8-10 minutes. Openings include a welcome, a brief lesson, a

song, offering collection and a prayer. Approximately 30 Sunday

mornings are available for you & we’d love to have you! Please give

Sandy Haase or Kathy Moody a call and volunteer for this ministry!
