“Winter at CCLC was filled with fun and fellowship”

Kids Play Day! Lenten Worship Prep!

Thank You CCLC!

Dear Friends,

Thank you so much for supporting our mission of fighting

child hunger in our community. In 2020, a year that

challenged so much of what we previously knew, Every

Meal provided over 3 million meals to children and

family in Minnesota and Western Wisconsin. I could not

be more proud of the work we have done, nor could I be

more grateful for your support this year.

Your generosity has made a direct, local, and immediate

impact on the food gaps that children faced in the wake of

this pandemic. Your contributions to our multiple food

programs have eased the ever-increasing burden that so

many families face.

Sincerely,

Rob Williams

Since we were unable to hold our annual Easter Egg Hunt, we distributed Easter

goody bags during our VEAP Drive-Up Drive that included a coloring page,

candy, and an assortment of toys.

“This little light of mine, I’m going to

let it shine”…and shine and shine

and shine!

Sunday School, First Communion Classes, Easter goody bags,

Wagner’s flower sales and Vacation Bible School preparations

- Spring is a busy time for Children’s Ministry! I’m grateful

for the families who make church an important part of their

busy lives. I’m proud of the amazing kids who participate

weekly whether online or in person. But sometimes, it’s not

about the kids. I think the best part of Spring 2021 has been “Vaccination Joy”! You

can almost feel the joy in the narthex on Sundays and Wednesdays as everyone shares

their vaccination updates. It’s been a great reminder that when you let YOUR light

shine, you also light up everyone around you! You can get your light shine at any age,

and together we can light up the world!

Page 6: Community of the Cross Lutheran Church The crossbeam

Sunday School = Socially Distanced Fun!

Online or in-person, our Sundays have been filled with stories, art projects, and games.

Page 7: Community of the Cross Lutheran Church The crossbeam

The Sunday School Kids discovered that service can be fun too!

In March, the younger kids planted flowers for residents at Presbyterian homes

and packed dog treats for the less fortunate….

…while the older kids helped out with the VEAP

Drive-Up Drive and Easter Bag distribution

In February, the kids colored

Valentine’s Day cards for our

members and decorated tissue

boxes for residents at

Presbyterian homes.

First Communion 2021

The third graders will be receiving their First Communion on Palm Sunday, March 28th, during the 10:30

service. The kids faithfully attended class for three Wednesdays, either online or in person, to prepare them

for this special day. In the first class, they reviewed The Last Supper, which included a take-home Seder

“tasting plate”. In the second class, they learned more about how and why we take Communion; they tried

bread, wafers, wine, and juice. In the final class, they painted the chalices that they’ll use during their First

Communion.

Receiving their first communion: Dahlia Boehne, Norman Coe,

Harlow Hove, Prizah Stalin, and Adam Walker.

All aboard for fun at VBS! Monday, June 21st – Thursday, June 24th

First Session will run from 9:00am – 10:30am*

Plans are in the works for our first outdoor VBS! Kids will have

the opportunity to learn that “Jesus’ Power Pulls Us Through”

during fun games, silly songs, and messy activities! VBS will be

free this year with an optional $10/child donation. Watch for

more details and registration information coming soon!

*Depending on interest level, a second session may be added from

11:00am - 12:30pm. Please email Jenna at [email protected]

with any questions.

Happy Spring to one and all!

The light seems to be getting brighter at the end of this long tunnel! It seems that our

prayers are being answered with many people receiving their vaccines, safety guidelines

and directives are changing, and spring weather is soon to arrive! All of these things

combined mean that we will begin to slowly and safely make changes to how we make

music together at CCLC. Please continue to pray with us, and be patient, as we move

forward in the safest ways possible. Please see below the ways in which you can get in-

volved musically at CCLC, and reach out to Jamie with any questions that you might have.

ALL ARE WELCOME TO PARTICIPATE!

NOTE: This summer, we will again be enjoying outdoor parking lot worship together at 10:00AM each Sunday.

These services will include music provided from folks from our traditional and contemporary services! This will be a

PERFECT time to get involved musically, or begin to ease back into things if you’ve not felt ok in doing so inside

the church, as we will be outdoors! Please reach out to Jamie if you’d like to participate musically in any way, even

if you’ve never done something like this. This is a great time to jump in!

We will soon begin bringing members of our Chancel Choir back together again to offer music for special services,

and services throughout the summer! We will be practicing safe social distancing while wearing masks when we

sing. Please let Jamie know if you have questions about this and how to get involved!

AUDIO/VISUAL HELP NEEDED: We are still asking for anyone in the congregation that might be able to help in

the Audio/Visual ministry, to reach out to Jamie and get involved. Now is a perfect time to jump in, as we will soon

be replacing/adding new equipment to our system in the sanctuary. Join us now and learn with us as we expand and

improve our audio and visual systems! Please prayerfully consider stepping up and helping out in this way.

Thank you to all of you who have been sharing your musical gifts at CCLC to enhance our worship experiences.

Thank you to all of you for prayerfully considering becoming part of the music ministry or audio/visual ministry. As

we begin to safely gather more and more, in “new normal” ways, pray that we can all find our right and perfect way

to serve the Lord, our congregation, and our community.

In Christ,

Jamie Manzi-Moore

The CrossBeam

Christ is risen! He is risen

indeed! Hallelujah!

This is the way I started my

Crossbeam article a year ago,

which was never printed

because we went into

shutdown before that

Crossbeam came out. We

weren’t able to greet each

other on Easter morning with

the joyful greeting, because

we weren’t even able to attend church services. This

year, we have plans to gather together to worship, not

quite like normal, but as close to it as we can get.

Thankfully, more and more of us are getting our

Covid vaccine. Be sure you are on a list with the state

or your clinic, or any of the drug stores that are

offering vaccines, so you can get one as soon as you

are eligible. Maybe by fall we will be able to gather

in a normal way, with singing by the congregation

and the choir. Maybe even without masks!! Won’t it

be wonderful to see smiling faces again?!

Thanks to the mostly mild winter we have had, the

Faithfully Fit walking group has been out almost

every Tuesday. We haven’t been able to walk

indoors because of Covid, the timing of when

shopping centers are open, and the start time for the

Tuesday Bible study. Now that the weather is getting

really nice, we encourage others to join us. We meet

at 8:45 on Tuesday morning at Hyland Park. Once we

are into summer the time will change back to 9:00,

and the location may change from week to week, If

you are interested in joining our group, let me know

and I will add your name to my email list. An email

goes out every Monday with time and location for our

walk.

We are studying the book of Revelation on Tuesday

morning. We are just getting started, so let me know

right away if you are interested so I can order more

books. This is a very challenging book, but we are

having a good time discussing it. We do have a good

time always with our study to the point where the

sessions have been described as mental health check-

ins. A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed

spirit dries the bones. Proverbs 17:22

We have not had a blood drive at CCLC in over a

year, and don’t know when we will be able to

schedule one again. That will be up to Memorial

Blood Center. However, they do need blood, so if

you are a regular donor, or if you aren’t and want to

start, go to mbc.org and make an appointment at one

of their permanent sites.

On the first day of the week, very early in the

morning, the women took spices they had prepared

and went to the tomb. They found the stone rolled

away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did

not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were

wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes

that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. In

their fright the women bowed down with their faces

to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you

look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he

has risen! Luke 24:1-6 Hallelujah! Christ is risen!

He is risen indeed!
