My name is Brittany Horton, and I am the Lt. Governor of the Coastal Division. As you may know, the Coastal Division is just one of six divisions in the Georgia District of Circle K. We currently have three awesome clubs that make up our division: Brewton-Parker College, East Georgia College, and Georgia Southern University.

I'm definitely looking forward to meeting each of you and getting to know your club on a one-to-one basis. We will also have opportunities like the Division Rallies and Presidents' Council Meetings to get together and know one another, not to mention other club and district events being held throughout the year as well.

This year promises to be filled with excitement, friendship, and tons of service opportunities. So be prepared to get involved this year and give it your all! Remember, it only takes one to make a difference!

Best Wishes!!

~ICON NEWS~

Excitement and anticipation are words that can describe how 7 (seven) Georgia Circle K'ers felt as they arrived at the 2011 International Convention in Virginia Beach, VA! After a 10-11 hour car ride, it was time to reunite with Circle K friends from other districts, show our district and subregion spirit at opening session, and enjoy a weekend at the beach!!

Opening session kicked off with a bang, as all of the districts gathered to listen to our own Mary Randall (Mountains LTG) sing the National Anthem (Yay!! Go Mary!). After a spirited opening session, the Georgia District participated in the annual Service Fair! At the service fair, Circle K'ers could see what kinds of service projects that clubs were doing across the globe! It was here that Governor Kevin Barnes informed interested CKI members about his Governor's project, The Georgia Sheriff's Youth Homes.

The next two days of ICON were filled with interesting and informational workshops, intense caucus sessions and two rounds of house of delegates! Though it was a close race, Circle K members were able to elect an awesome international board! The 2011-2012 International Board members are: International President: Steven Spriggs International Vice President: Melanie Walters Subregion A Representative: Vacant Subregion B Representative: Lisa Watson Subregion C Representative: Daniel Tsang Subregion D Representative: Lauren Perkins Subregion E Representative: Amelia Ahnert Subregion F Representative: Rob Accera Subregion G Representative: Lincois Ewers

After the new international board was elected, the CKI Honors night was next on the list! The Georgia District did not come home empty handed this year! Actually, we were far from it and we represented Georgia very well! This year the Georgia District came back with the following awards:

1st place in the Silver Division for the Club Achievement Award: Georgia Tech CKI Club Unsung Hero Award: Michael Timothy of Thomas University Circle K Club Talent Show Winner: Mary Randall of Reinhardt University Circle K Club Distinguished Committee Chair: Kevin Barnes as the 2010-2011 District Convention Chair Distinguished Lieutenant Governor: Elizabeth Byrd as the 2010-2011 Metro Division LTG Distinguished District Governor: Ashleey Davis as the 2010-2011 District Governor

And last but not least.......The Georgia District came back home with the Distinguished District Award!! In the words of District Administrator Brent Leslie, "GEORGIA IS BACK!!" We are doing AWESOME things in our district and would like to take the time out to thank all of the district officers and administrative team, club officers, faculty and Kiwanis advisors, Georgia K-Family and anyone else that helped out a Circle K club in the 2010-2011 year! I would especially like to thank each and every Circle K member! Without our members being dedicated to service, the Georgia district would not have won all of those awards! Every member should be proud to be apart the GACKI!

The weekend ended with Circle K'ers doing one of the things that we do best.....DANCE! Members from across the globe came together to celebrate another ICON by dancing the night away! The night did not end there! Subregion G members hung out by the pool, played volleyball, and walked on the beach! It was a night of fun, tons of laughs, and lasting fellowship.

On our last day in Virginia Beach, Circle K members said goodbye to the 2010-2011 International Board! President Amanda Marfisi, Vice President Nicole Loehr, Subregion G Representative Krystal Weaver and the rest of the board did a fantastic job and we would like to send a shout out to them! Thank you for all that you did throughout the year!! Finally, the new International board were installed and the 2011 ICON concluded with CKI Director Chris Martz awarding Subregion G with the Circle K Spirit Stick! (Go Sub G!!!! "Who are we? G-UNIT!!)

International Convention was a great experience for those that attended! It was filled with fun, laughs, friends, great memories, and service! It is an experience that everyone needs to go through! So, do not miss your chance next year when the 2012 ICON is in New Orleans, LA!! See you in the Big Easy!

Fall Recruitment Drives

Fall Semester is the perfect time to kick off the new Circle K year with a bang by recruiting those new prospective members! Promote around campuses with signs, posters, handouts, and brochures. If you have a Club Bulletin Editor, have them pass out bulletins to people. This can give others a chance to look at what your club does on a regular basis. Be sure to post up where and when your club meets. When it comes to grabbing attention, try giving out candy, drinks, or goodie bags. You can even do a small gala with punch and pizza. These and many more ideas are available on www.georgiacirclek.org under the Resources Tab. Take time to check out our new District Website while you're there! If you need help with a drive, just let me know! I'll be glad to stop by a help out or provide materials if needed. Or you can find them here for free!

New Clubs??

Nothing is in stone as of yet, but the Georgia District and the Coastal Division are looking to charter 2 new clubs this year in our division! The two colleges interested are Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) located in Savannah, GA, and Ogeechee Technical College (OTC) located in Statesboro, GA! More great news! Coastal Georgia Community College located in Brunswick, GA, is also looking to reactivate this year as well! I'm sure many of you know of or have heard of these colleges in our area, so If any of you guys are interested in helping these two potential clubs get started, just email me at [email protected]
