I come from a wine-producer family from the wine-growing area of Nitra. I grew up in the vineyards. I have dedicated myself professionally to wine for five years, I enjoy looking for truth in wine each day.”

Peter likes genuine, honest, „terroir“ wines. His favourite wine region is Portugal.

He even told us that:

- he perceives wine as art - he has his own company TERROIR s.r.o. - which imports and distributes wines - he also works as a wine consultant – providing advice and audit in a client’s wine cellar - he enjoys themed wine tastings - his favourite wine variety is Riesling

VíNO NITRA, s.r.o.Count Mikuláš Pálffy (b.1552) was a member of the new nobility and subsequently he became the first Prešporok county chief. He extended the acreage of vineyards in the Nitra and Prešporok counties. The result was an increase in the production of Slovak wine. The count not only mediated in the sale of wine, but also defended the interests of domestic producers within the then kingdom. Our sparkling wine was named in his honour and it was no coincidence that it was launched at the Červený kameň castle, i.e. the home of the Pálffys. Pálffy sparkling wine is the top selling Slovak sparkling wine produced by the traditional French method of secondary fermentation in the bottle.

SEkT PÁlffy | extra dry

Country of origin: SlovakiaTasting Notes: The “bronze lineage” of Pálffy sparkling wine has a superb unusual taste - extra dry. The traditional method of fermentation in the bottle produces high quality varieties of Chardonnay and Rulandské biele sparkling wine with a clean, grapey character and an elegant fizziness. A wine which is both subtle and stimulating. Awards: National wine salon 2010 – Winner of the category: EFFERVESCENTS DU MONDE 2010 – Gold and 17 other awards from competitions in Slovakia and globally

Wine-growing and wine-making

of MIlOŠ MÁťuŠ

The wine-growing and wine-making of Miloš Máťuš continues a family tradition that has deep historical roots in Rača. There are about 12 hectares of vineyard to be taken care of. The grapes are grown using above-standard growing services. The grapes are left to mature to full ripeness and then mostly attribute or quality wines are made of them. Predominantly classical technology is used, with the exception of controlled fermentation in the case of white wine. After considerate processing the wines mature in rustless tanks, oak barrels or barrik barrels. The wines are exported to the market without chemical stabilization and filtration, so the wine has the potential for maturing even in the bottle and if stored well, some kinds of wine can continue maturing for several years.

Our family company, Skovajsa, started in 1991 as wine-growing business. We have continued the tradition of our grandparents, interrupted only by the communist regime, the vineyards being returned to us after the restitution. Now we grow the wine in Pezinok and in Limbach using 5 hectares of vineyard, and we process only our own wine. We make about 25 000 – 30 000 litres of wine per year. We started making a small amount of wine, and over a number of years we have developed our wine-making skills. As young producers we abandoned the classical production methods and opted for an efficient wine processing method, with reduced technology that enables us to provide the market with modern, fresh wines with an expressive variety of aromas. The variety is created by 5 white wines and 4 red wines. We sell the wine from our own cellar and wine shops all around Slovakia. Degustation events are available for smaller groups (up to 25 people) in the cellar

itself which is located in a typical, closed farm yard in Pezinok.

RIZlING RÝNSky | 2001 – 2007

Country of origin: Slovakia, Small Carpathians Appelation, DoľanyTasting notes: A unique horizontal wine tasting. A limited collection of Rieslings which have undergone a strict selection process during a number of tastings by respected oenologists. The wines tasted are from a single vineyard and a single cellar. This is an opportunity to discover the aromas and tastes of a single variety. Each bottle represents a different year. Compare how the influence of the weather during the growing season of the grapes influences the final character of the wine. You will discover for yourself that a wine from an excellent year has an immense aging potential for the future.

JM Vinárstvo Doľany has been operating in the Small Carpathians winegrowing region since 1986. The wine they produce uses grapes from their own vineyards. This is the foundation on which they build as the quality of a wine is also determined in the vineyard.

The varied composition of the vineyards permits the production of a wide range of high quality varietal wines. Selected superior wine is the main wine type produced, which express the terroir and the genius loci of this winegrowing region. New and traditional varieties are grown which are well-known in Slovakia and globally. Red and white wines are produced in equal measure. The annual production is around 1 million bottles. The wines are mainly sold on the Slovak hotel, restaurant and catering market (HORECA).

On the company premises in Doľany there is a company outlet with the whole range of wines produced. For the discerning customer we offer tastings in the 500-year-old stone cellar in Fugger’s house in Častá.

There are those who make the wine. There are those who drink it. And finally there are those –fewer of them – who love the wine. White, pink or red. Fresh, impulsive and magnetizing. Fine, aromatic, intoxicating the senses. The senses of men and women who know what is above-average and extraordinary. The Janoušek Company wines are just like that and they belong among the best what we have here in Slovakia.

Many wines by the Janoušek company can be found in the National Salon of Wines in Pezinok (100 best wines in the Slovak Republic), in the Little-Carpathian Hall of Fame in Limbach, in the top gastronomic outlets, vinotheques and private archives.

Vínne pivnice Svätý Jur ChOWANIEC & kRAJČíROVIČ

Svätý Jur Wine Cellars, Inc. was founded in 2001 by a team of two winemakers – Peter Chowaniec, known in the market for his collection of varietal wines from the vintage year 2000 and Juraj Krajčírovič, a vintner and maker of excellent quality wines fermented in the barrel. Today, the team is building a wine cellar that creates the highest quality wines using grapes grown locally in Svätý Jur. We understand wine cultivation and winemaking not just as the technical discipline of producing wine. Behind what we do is an intimate relationship with nature and the effect we have on the environment around us. Wine reflects the region, town and people who participate in its making. Our goal is to make wines with a pedigree, wines that represent Svätý Jur, the Little Carpathians region and Slovakia as a whole.

PIVNICA TIbAVAThe roots of winegrowing in the Tibava area date back to the 15th century. The winemaking and winegrowing activities of the company, PIVNICA TIBAVA s.r.o., build on a tradition established in the 1960s, when in 1965 a winegrowing and winemaking plant was built in Tibava.

The current facility for the processing of grapes and wine production, a company outlet and offices are situated in Sobrance. They have undergone a complete modernisation over the last two years. Currently, thanks to this, the facility provides ever expanding possibilities for high quality work with raw materials and the use of modern, sensitive technologies for grape processing, and the treatment of musts and wines, which helps to accentuate the many excellent qualities of the wine produced.

Wine-growing and wine-making

TERRA PARNAOur vineyards are spread across the picturesque countryside close to the western Slovak town of Suchá nad Parnou. This is where we grow and

harvest the grapes, make the quality wine, and here is where you can taste it. We are a modern wine-making company but we follow the hundred-year-old tradition of our region.

A scenic vineyard with a modern building in its midst is the view that awaits the visitors to Terra Parna. We are proud of our history and we are glad that we have managed to intertwine it with the most modern architecture and and the most recent of technologies. These are the signposts to a good wine.

AlIbERNET | 2009 | ice harvest

Country of origin: Slovakia, Little Carpathian Appelation, Trnavské vrškyTasting notes: Dark, rich red-ruby colour shows that even the low harvest temperatures did not negatively influence its intensity. Those who like the taste of walnut still in its mildly bitter skin will be surprised by the typical smell of young nuts in the wine. A slightly oxidative tone does not break the harmony of overripe blueberries and black currants. Tasting this wine promises an unforgettable experience full of surprises: pleasant sweet taste with a finish of overripe berries that will after a while reveal a touch of chocolate and black coffee.

dubovský & GrančičThe Dubovský & Grančič winery was established on 1 January 2005. Both the owners are from old Svätý Jur vintner families and we have built on a rich winemaking and winegrowing tradition. Dubovský & Grančič cultivates 2.8 ha of vineyards, but this is insufficient to meet our wine production needs and so we purchase additional grapes from our contractual suppliers in either Svätý Jur or Svodín in the southern winegrowing district. Our wine is available for tasting on our premises along with local specialities for a maximum of 10 people. For larger groups, we organize tastings at the wine room of Marián Fraňo in Svätý Jur.

JANOuŠEk
