Welcome to the inaugural St Michaels Wine Auction We are delighted to be working in conjunction with the Polytech-nic team and be holding this event in the new Tourism & Hospi-tality Centre, which is a state of the art Hospitality complex and the night will also be catered for by the Polytechnic students and staff. With 50 premium lots on offer the auction will provide supporters and wine connoisseurs an opportunity to secure some speciality wines and potentially valuable collectors pieces. All funds received from the auction will be gratefully accepted and used to directly assist Tasmanians living with a disability. Information: Made as a fruit-driven drink now style, this Pinot from Tasmania's Tamar region shows layers of cherry and forest floor aroma's. A generous savoury and seduc-tive palate with spicy complexity and light astringency. Great value.

Noir

Information: Low yields, handpicked, 85% destemmed 15% whole bunches, wild yeast ferments and 12 months maturation in French oak barriques. An intensely perfumed floral nose with hints of Chinese five spice and dark chocolate, with a sappy element from the whole bunch inclusion. A com-plex palate with a wide flavour profile, highlighted by dark red berries/cherries, cocoa and well integrated tannins, followed by a long powerful finish.

Information: The wine itself is rich in history and has been considered one of Italy’s oldest and most noble wines since the Renaissance pe-riod, although some believe it dates back to the Etruscans. It is named after the town of San Gimignano (famed for its medie-val towers), where it is pro-duced, and the ancient grape from which it is made.

It was a wine considered to be fit for a king.

Information: What’s does classic dry red mean, well it’s a classic blend of Cabernet and Shiraz and it’s got a dry finish but more than that it comes from one of the original wineries of the Margaret River region. Vasse Felix are as famous as the surf breaks that dot the region and this wine is one of their more down to earth offerings that has turned up at a multitude of barbecues in the past. Expect equal amounts of raspberry and pepper with a gen-erous, mouth-filling palate and soft, even tannins.

Information: A tragic accident when favourite in the 1979 Melbourne Cup cut short a great career of a coura-geous horse. To record his deeds Yalumba have blended a fine Vintage Port from selected, hand picked Shiraz grapes from it own Barossa vineyards. Sip it now or take my advice and “paddock” a few bottles for a suitable occa-sion in the future. The Yalumba Thoroughbred Series had won world wide recognition.
