Freelance projects

I recently worked on a design and branding project for Pondicherry, a newly-opened furniture store in trendy Balmain, Sydney. It has involved

designing a logo, stationery, and advertisements that appear in a range of interiors magazines and newspapers. I am also currently working on

the company’s website, which will be a showcase for all the homewares carried by the store.

The site where the Valkenburg Hotel now stands was known as the “Mail coach staging post” in the early 1800’s. The landlord of the time, Cornel Knox owned the site and his “Squire” John Valkenburg managed this business. The Valkenburg family were of German origin. more>

This shape is consistent throughout each page, to provide a shell for the content.

The Valkenburg Hotel header will also be on each page

The combination of red, grey, white and black, keeps the whole thing simple and elegant,

and is consistent both with the Valk Logo, and Marinas menus etc

These pictures will change on each page.

As this is the homepage, I have broken it down into sections

as an overview of what will be on each page.

the mayo neWs

The Mayo News is the fastest growing newspaper in the west of Ireland and winner of four European Newspaper Design Awards Following a redesign

implemented by the whole design team during my time there, the Mayo News scooped the 2007 European Newspaper Design Award for the best

designed local newspaper in Europe. Using primarily Adobe Indesign CS and Photoshop, my duties also include: laying out columns; assisting with the

website; sourcing and assigning interior photography, illustration and cover artwork; designing and laying out colour cover; and handling service bureau

and printer issues.

The Federal Department of Health and

Ageing engaged Cultural Perspectives

to develop and implement a PBS

Community Awareness Campaign to

prevent medicines distributed under

the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme

being taken or sent out of the country.

The campaign was highly successful in

informing and educating audiences about

the PBS and safe medicine use.

I designed press ads to be placed in all the

mainstream national daily newspapers

as well as fourteen other languages. The

campaign was backed up by brochures,

factsheets, postcards and posters

displayed in pharmacies and doctors

surgeries nationwide and on the internet,

as well as ‘eyelights’ at every major airport

in Australia.

It involved co-ordinating translators, printers,

media booking agencies and distributors as

well as full design responsiblity.

In 2004, changes were made to the Australian Public Health

system and a nationwide campaign was launched to inform

the public of the changes, which included TV and radio

campaign and a range of literature - a booklet was sent to

every household in Australia,

I reproduced the information booklet in 20 languages

which was printed and distributed all over the country, and

published on the website.

There were also four ad runs which I designed ads for in 20

languages for over 100 newspapers.

When the Victorian Government passed Racial and Religious Tolerance Act, I

developed a range of promotional materials for the campaign.

The campaign included a number of approaches focusing on a non-English and

Indigenous advertising, designed to target youth and employers.

I designed the campaign logo, press ads in 10 languages, posters, post cards, folders,

factsheets in 21 languages, banners and stickers for distribution state wide in offices,

clubs and schools.

The advertising and public relations strategies of the

‘Quarantine Matters!’ campaign were designed to raise

awareness of and increase quarantine compliance with

Australia’s quarantine system.

Working closely with a team of designers from another

agency, I implemented the multilingual section of the

campaign over 5 years.

Work included designing and producing brochures, flyers,

posters, key rings and other promotional material, as well

as press and magazine ads for distribution to media and

airports Australia wide and to overseas travel agencies in

up to 15 languages.

WIZarD home loans

When Wizard Home Loans opened a new branch in Chinatown and hired

Chinese speaking staff, they were eager to advertise specifically and directly

to the local target market in their own language.

I designed a range of press ads and advertorials to appear in local Chinese

newspapers.

Water Conservation campaign and also produced their quarterly water quality report for
