filled with concern or regret over an unwanted situation

    3 : having a dislike for something [1]

Afraid as it it informs this critical design means the fear a person feels in a standyour ground situation where a life is taken (with emphasis on the victim/deceased).

    Stand Your Ground

! The Stand Your Ground (SYG)Law allows anyone to usedeadly force in self-defense

without the duty to retreat whenfaced with a reasonableperceived threat[2]

! In common terms: a shooter only

has to believe that their life is indanger(be afraid) to kill andthey will not be convicted ofhomicide [3]

    Critical Design

Critical design is used to make us think. But also raise

awareness, expose assumptions, provoke action, andspark debate[5]

I chose a critical design approach for this context to raise

    awareness and expose assumptions

A drawback to creating a critical design is that its

conceptual. It also may not provide a solution to a

    problem

    Before

    After

    The hood shrouded Tonys face

    Hoodies hold a negative

    connotation and criminalize thewearers

A hidden collar is in the

    inside of the hood

The hood retracts under the collar when Tony

    raises his arms

His face is identifiable Tony is perceived as less threatening to the pursuer

    What Happens Next?

Ideally, the fear is mitigated in the pursuer and he

retreats or allows Tony to retreat

Keep in mind, this is a critical design its purpose is to

raise awareness not be a solution
