Berkshire Hathaway Annual Meeting 2015 May 2, 2015 These notes are recollections only, without the aid of a recording device. They should not be relied upon. – PB [standing ovation after the movie] WB: Thank you. I’m Warren, this is Charlie. He can hear, I can see, we work together. [laughter] WB: In a few moments, we’ll move to regular procedures. First is John Landis, directed and conceived the Floyd Mayweather movie, also did Animal House, Trading Places with Dan Akroyd and Eddie Murphy, and Charlie’s favorite Jamie Lee Curtis, Don Amici. Well John, thank you, thank you. We really appreciate it. The other special thanks, a young 30year old woman, with 1½ year old baby at home, she puts on this whole event. Carrie Silva, thanks! [clapping]. Carrie, a few months ago, I said to her that I thought it would be nice to have commemorative book, a retrospective, do you mind putting it together in your spare time. I think it’s really special. We sold 5,000 yesterday, printed 15,000. I just want to thank her personally, and I hope you’ll thank her. We’ll have annual meeting at 3:30 pm, and at that time we’ll be voting on directors. Many won’t be here, all the overflow rooms may be full, and we have seats at Grand Ballroom at Hilton. If you can’t find seat here at least give it a try. We got all the rooms possible. Attendance may have outgrown the seats this time. You’ll vote on directors after 3:30 pm. Withhold applause until end, and you can withhold then too if you like. Howard Buffett, Steve Burke, Sue Decker, Bill Gates, Sandy Gottesman, Charlotte Guyman, Thomas Murphy, Ron Olson, Walter Scott, Meryl Wittmer. They are a great bunch of directors. [clapping] We are missing Don Keogh. He was Butternut coffee salesman, broadcast football games. He was followed by Johnny Carson. Used to day, ‘Don, what ever happened to that Carson fellow?’ Don died a few weeks ago, and so we are very grateful that Mickey Keogh his wife has joined us today – let’s have a hand for Mickey. Mickey practically raised our kids, so if they have any faults, talk to Mickey about it. Here is one slide on our quarterly earnings. Nothing remarkable, BNSF did dramatically better than last year, operationally in terms like average velocity and on time as well as earnings – we got behind last year early in year. Lots of money and effort spent to get railroad operating like it should be, earnings improved dramatically relative to other railroads, improvement has been huge, Matt Rose and Carl Ice – thanks Matt and Carl. [Shout from audience: “We love you.”] I didn’t quite get it but assume it was complimentary. We’ll take questions from journalists, analysts, and then the audience. Take a break for hour at noon, starting at 54 questions we’ll take them all from audience. Each person selected by drawing to ask questions. The woman who will start just retired after sixty years, a record at Time Inc., and in my opinion she is the best print journalist in world. And that doesn’t soften her up at all folks. [laughter]
