NEWSLETTER ISSUE 8 - 2013 (SEPTEMBER - ZUL QADAH 1434) From the Editor Mrs Fazela Amod Hajj - The Journey of a Lifetime... THE KAABA’S WONDERFUL ATTRACTION The Quranic Verse “They will come to you on foot or every lean camel, coming from every remote path,” is response to the Quranic Verse, “And proclaim among men the pilgrimage,” indicating that the divine call which was spread throughout the world by Prophet Ibrahim (a.s) and then reaffirmed by the ordainment of the Holy Prophet of Islam (saw) left such impact on the Kaaba that it attracted susceptible men from the remotest corners of the world with its magnetic property. During Hajj season, amazing activity occurs in the corners of the world and large crowd of people pour into Mecca by land, sea, and air, while there is no force, allurement, propaganda, or any other urging factors. People go through all hardships so as to come to visit the Kaaba with love and as soon as their eyes fall on the House of their Beloved, they start prostrating themselves and forgetting all hardships. APAX wishes all Hujjaj Hajj Mabroor FROM THE PRINCIPAL...MRS NADIA MOTARA As Salaam U Alaikum Parents We have reached the end of yet another very busy term and Alhamdullilah, we feel like we are moving ahead at a steady pace. The staff have worked exceptionally hard and have managed to produce some excellent results. Grade averages have increased and there has been a marked improvement in both the quality and quantity of work covered. The success of all activities this term has been as a result of great teamwork and a willingness to see the school prosper. I would also like to thank Fazela and Zainab, our school administrators. Our new parents, in particular, have been very impressed with the reception they receive at our front offices. I hope that you all have a well-deserved rest and that our learners return to tackle the last term with the same zeal and enthusiasm as they did this term.

‘n Vrugteverkoper se Storie – Naafia Amod Graad 7Elke more sit die vrugteverkoper voor die Soweto staanplek. Met haar vrugte, pragtig geskik

op ‘n kleurvolle tafeldoek, is sy ‘n vertroulike gesig. Sy is altyd netjies, met haarsilwerskoon pienk uniform, maar daar is niemand wat die vrugteverkoper se storie ken. Hier

is haar storie...’n ongelooflike sukkel.“Ek is Antjie Nkundi. Ek was gebore op die 12 Januarie 1979. Dit was die era van

Apartheid. My pa was in die tronk, en my ma en ek het elke dag baklei. Ek was 16 wanneerek van die huis weggehardloop. Die straat was nou my huis. Na ‘n jaar, was ek swanger.

Die tyd to my seuntjie amper gebore was het ek besef dat die straat nie nog my huis kan weesnie. ‘n Vriend het vir my twee pakkies appels gegee. Ek het die appels op my sjaal by die

staanplek gesit. Van daar af was ek nou ‘n vrugteverkoper. My seuntjie en ek bly nou in ‘nklein agter kamertjie in Soweto. Na skool speel my seuntjie by die Metro treinstasie. En ek,

ek is altyd hier met die son, van sonop tot sononder.

FUN WALKThe suburb of Auckland Park came alive on Sunday, 15th September as hundreds of APAXwalkers took to the streets. Hats off to the PTA , Staff and Board of Managers for organisingsuch a fun-filled event. Details of the total amount collected will be circulated in our nextnewsletter.

Our Fun walk Experience – Zaakira Sader and Fatima KapadiyaWe had so much fun at the Fun Walk. We got the chance to do some exercise (5km walk)with our moms. Normally, we are at home, go shopping or visit family. This was the firsttime we spent outdoors and it was such a wonderful experience. On the way, we picked up

litter and had some friendly chats with other walkers. We made new friends too. Throughout the walk , there was a friendly, happy atmosphere. After the walk, we had lots

to eat and our families socialised with each other while we had more fun on the jumpingcastle. All the learners received a medal and there were also lots of special prizes for thewinners. The oldest participant was 74 years old. The Fun Walk was beautiful and we

cannot wait until next year, when we will both try harder to walk faster!

Fun Walk 2013 By: Zahraa Ebrahim and Zahra Sader (3B)The day started off as we walked through the gates of “The Palms”. We were very excited aswe saw many people in their APAX t-shirts displaying an anti-bullying slogan signing in andsettling down before the walk began. The tuck-shop was filled with yummy delights and we

could just hear our tummy’s grumbling. Not long after the dads, sons, uncles andgrandfathers were lined up outside the Masjid waiting to start their 5 km walk. A little whileafter the ladies were ready to go. We felt a little nervous as the gun shot into the air. Quicklywe built up confidence and marched our way to the front of the line. As we walked we saw

children zooming pass and Muallimahs handing out water at the water points. We were very proud of our fellow learners for achieving lovely prizes. It was really fun we

hope to do this again Insha-Allah!A special thank you to all our sponsors who contributed towards the success of our FunWalk:
