The nasal epithelium lies on a basement membrane and a lamina propria. Different types of epithelium can be found in the nasal cavity:A pseudostratified columnal epithelium (respiratory epithelium), which is composed of four major types of cells; ciliated (columnar) cells, nonciliated (columnar) cells, goblet cells and basal cells. This epithelium is found in the posterior two-thirds of the nasal cavityA squamous and transitional epithelium (stratified epithelium containing cuboidal cells with microvilli) is found in the first third of the nasal cavity (26).The epithelium of the paranasal sinuses is of the simple ciliated columnar type with a few goblet cells and glands.
