There were 3,400 students from around the state trying to win a chance to advance. Of the 11 representing Queen City, two students qualified to compete at the national DECA competition in April. Brittany Barlow and Shanice Harris paired up to compile a project on community service. The judges remarked that both students have the “gift of gab,” and that is what helped them stand out from other students in their category. The pair will travel to Louisville, Ky., April 24-27, to compete against 15,000 students from across the nation. Their sponsor, John Hopson, said he is proud of the two students. “They have rep- resented Queen City well thus far and I know they will continue that competitive represen- Courtesy Photo Two Queen City High School students, Shanice Harris, left, and Brittany Barlow, compete at the Texas State DECA competition in February and qualify to compete at the National DECA competition in April. tation at the national level,” he said.
