1 THE EURASIAN FEBRUARY 2013 VOL 35 ISSUE 10 aeawa.asn.au Chad Beins —President Welcome back members. I trust we have all had a well deserved break! would like to wish you, all the very best for the coming year. May all your hopes and dreams for the year come true….. There were 3 main activities organised in Decem- ber. We had around 170 people at our Christmas Sunday Lunch as we sang along to Christmas songs and feasted on Christmas food, all this, while the Children’s Christmas Party was going on sim- ultaneously in the next room. 30 excited children played games and had lots to eat but the highlight was obviously the lovely gifts they received from Santa! Santa and the kids then joined us in the main hall for a grand Christmas finale. A huge effort was made by all the volunteers that day. Thank you so much for doing a great job! Thank you as well to the music support group and all who donated food and prizes that day. We are truly grateful. We also had our Christmas Tea Dance where around 130 people turned up to a most wonderful afternoon with lots of laughter, drinking and danc- ing. We had such positive feedback as many en- joyed the relaxed and festive atmosphere that filled the room. Thank you to the band, the organisers and helper’s….AND especially to all of you who gave us support by coming to join us at all our De- cember Christmas Celebrations! We have planned more activities for you in February & March 2013 marking the end of our Management Committee’s (MC) first year together. Sometime in March 2013, MC will be reviewing the challenges of the past year and begin planning for the year ahead culminating with our Silver Jubilee Celebrations in 2014. Constructive comments, feedback & sugges- tions are encouraged. The 10th February 2013 is our first Sunday lunch for the year. This together with Chinese New Year (CNY) being on the same day and Valentine’s Day on the 14th Feb, gives us 3 good reasons to cele- brate and have a good time! To keep with the fes- tivities we will put up some CNY decorations. Please feel free to come in your best Chinese New Year costumes/clothing if you wish! After lunch we will have our first Community Ser- vices talk for the year on Family Law. These talks have been organised in line with members voicing their opinions in a recent survey. Please support by attending. More details inside. The 23rd Feb 2013 is our Hats & Fascinators, 24th AEAWA Anniversary Ball at the RAAFA Club in Bullcreek. It’s our first dance for the year! Ticket cost includes dinner with beer, wine & soft drink. Final attendance numbers are required by the Feb Sunday lunch at the latest. Full details inside. EURASIANLYMPICS makes its return on the 10th March 2013 immediately after Sunday lunch (details inside). With the Eurasianlympics and our desire to promote and draw younger members and families to AEAWA, the Management Com- mittee has decided to dedicate the 10th March 2013 Sunday Lunch to Youth, Children & Families. Please support us by bringing along your family and friends and join us in our ‘End of AEAWA Year’ party!!!! Nominations for the Ida De Silva, Andrew Clark & Ivan Richards Awards close on 31 Jan 2013. The panel will then make their decision and the appro- priate winners will be announced at the March 2013 Youth, Children & Family Sunday lunch. Finally, our membership renewal is on a calendar year basis. All membership fees not paid by 31 Dec 2012 are considered to be overdue. If you have not renewed yet, please remember to do so as soon as possible. You can pay at the Feb Sun- day lunch, by mail or bank transfer. On behalf of the Management Committee, I would like to wish all our Chinese members a Happy Chi- nese New Year! Chad

LUNCH VOUCHERS
To serve the lunches faster, a lunch
voucher needs to be purchased –this is
how it works:
when you arrive you get a num-
bered ticket as usual
then you purchase a lunch voucher
at the entrance, currently $6 for a
main meal ($3 for over 80’s and
free for over 90’s)
if a side dish is available this may
also be purchased at the same time
when your number is called, please
present your numbered ticket to-
gether with the coloured voucher at
the kitchen to receive your meal.
(N.B: One ticket = one main meal + side
dish).
A gentle plea - please have the correct
amount handy to save us running
out of change.
In the unfortunate event that we run out of
all meals, we will refund your money.
(Cakes are sold after the lunch service
has finished)

Property and Children Issues
Speaker: Wilfred Doray, Family Lawyer

Sunday Lunch (Small Room)
Place: Redcliffe Community Hall, Cnr

When a married or de facto couple splits up, besides the
emotional upheaval, many practical questions need to be
answered:-
What happens to our home? Can I retain it or do we have to
sell it?
I have no super as I was a stay at home mum but my hus-
band has accumulated lots of super - will I have a share in
my husband’s super?
Do we have to split the matrimonial property 50-50? Can I
get more?
Can my son protect himself by doing up a pre-nuptial agree-
ment?
What happens to the children, does the father or mother
have more rights to spend time with the child?
My daughter is separating - as a grandparent, what are my
rights to spend time with the grandchildren?
You may be happily married or you be facing marital issues.
Whatever may be your personal circumstances, an under-
standing of family law issues will always be useful for your-
self or when assisting a child or a friend who is undergoing
separation.
Come and attend the family law talk by Wilfred Doray, a law-
yer with more than 20 years of experience in family law.
Wilfred originally from Singapore and has been practising
family law in Western Australia since 1994.
