Sedentary/Sitting Wedge This should be done for 3-5 minutes when sitting for an hour or more. Keep the wedge or a folded blanket handy by your work chair. Use it throughout the day. This changes the pressure on the spine and helps the entire nervous system with adaptability. It helps the pelvis support the lumbar spine. Diaphragmatic Breathing Breathing well improves every bodily function we have. It is the FIRST thing that can begin to calm us down and relieve stress. It must be done throughout the day and if there is sleep disordered breathing, it must be addressed. If you are not breathing well during sleep, you WILL have inflammation in the body. The importance of the breath cannot be stressed enough. Found only on the right side of the body, this one way valve allows our food to pass into the large intestine for further processing. The proper function of this valve is to open and close upon demand. When this muscle sticks in the open position, it causes a backwash from the large intestine into the small intestine, allowing fecal matter to be used in the making of blood. This has great consequences as the small intestine is where the process of creating the blood/fuel to feed the body begins. When this muscle is stuck closed, the process of eliminating waste will be hindered. Both of these conditions are very toxic and can cause a problem anywhere in the body. These conditions are related to eating improper food and/or emotional stress and can seriously affect the performance of the whole body. Low blood/fuel can also cause the valve to lose its tension and stick, usually in the open position. And what about the pyloric valve? The main purpose of the pyloric valve is to control the flow of material from your stomach into your duodenum, the top section of your small intestine where most of the nutrients are extracted from

Addendum to Dr. Melvin’s Recommendations

We’ve all heard it, but knowledge is power, so we’d like to give you some further information to complement the recommendations from Dr. Melvin. We commend you for taking an active role in your health and thank you for choosing De Novo Scan, Clinical Thermography as your partner in achieving optimal health!

Pyloric/Ileo-cecal Valve Release The ileo-cecal valve is a small muscle located between the small and large intestine. Found only on the right side of the body, this one way valve allows our food to pass into the large intestine for further processing. The proper function of this valve is to open and close upon demand. food matter. Under normal conditions, the valve opens slightly a few times a minute to allow a small amount of material into the duodenum. It has a secondary function of preventing bile reflux, which is bile flowing from your intestines into your stomach. Unfortunately, the pyloric valve doesn’t work correctly for many people. Either it “spasms” and doesn’t open or it doesn’t close completely and allows bile to pass into the stomach and, potentially, into your esophagus. Both conditions can create a lot of discomfort and serious medical problems. We see quite a few patients with pyloric valve problems. In most cases, they have no idea why they are in pain. Once we identify the problem, we can help them get on track to healthy, pain-free living again.

Hyperextension Exercises

TENNIS BALLS: Put 2 tennis balls in a sock and tie the end of the sock. You can use this on certain trigger points along the spine. Lying down on the floor, you can position the 2 balls just below the back of the head so that your spine splits them (you do not want the pressure on the spine, rather on the connective tissue next to the spine). You can also flip the sock over your shoulder and apply pressure by leaning against a wall. THE FOAM ROLLER:

• Improves blood circulation throughout your skin, fascia, muscles, and even tendons and ligaments where you can access them with a foam roller.

• Through improved blood circulation, there is a more efficient exchange of nutrients and waste products at a cellular level, leading to better overall cellular function and

inter-cellular communication. • Lengthens short (tight) muscles, tendons, and ligaments. • Promotes optimal spinal range of motion. You can accomplish this by

slowly rolling your spine against a foam roller and pausing whenever you feel restrictions to allow your joints and surrounding tissues to stretch.

• Stimulates lymphatic drainage through the spinal column. • Better messaging from the spine (nervous system) to the diaphragm and

all of the digestive organs (improves communication to these areas). • General stress and tension release- a few minutes can invigorate a tired

mind/body feeling at the end of a work day. To purchase a foam roller, go to www.amazon.com and search “exercise foam roller”. For an excellent resource for managing chronic pain, check out the Melt Method at http://www.meltmethod.com/about/melt-treatment-techniques

Supplements and Nutrition

IODINE PROTOCOL: Iodine is needed for all the glands of the body including the breasts. It helps to decrease nodules and fibroids. When doing the iodine spot test, remember that the iodine stain should

last on the skin for at least 8 – 12 hours. Also, eating a handful of Brazil nuts is helpful when taking iodine because they contain selenium. A proper balance is needed between selenium and iodine for optimal thyroid function. For more in-depth information on iodine, read The Iodine Crisis by Lynne Farrow. PSYLLIUM SEED/HUSK and COLLOIDAL BENTONITE: This is an easy digestive cleanse. It is typically done for 6 weeks on an empty stomach (at bed or first thing in the morning) one hour away from food, drinks, other supplements and medications. Psyllium is a thick fiber so if you are prone to constipation, use ground up flaxseeds instead. You can grind the flaxseeds in a coffee grinder. Use within 20 minutes, otherwise they will turn rancid. Bentonite is absorbent -- it will attract the negative bacteria, along with stagnated toxins. This can be done during the change of each season for one or two weeks. Dr. Melvin recommends the brand Sonne’s. Please see his video at http://www.totalthermalimaging.com/#!instructional-videos/ceiz. To avoid constipation, make sure you are drinking plenty of water throughout the day. A good measure for how much water to drink in a day, is calculated by dividing your body weight in half. This is the number of ounces of water to drink in a day. For example, a person weighing 100 pounds would drink 50 ounces of water a day.

Earthing/Grounding This is a natural way to bring down inflammation. Earthing, or grounding as it is often called, simply means connecting to the Earth’s natural, negative surface charge by being barefoot outside or in bare skin contact with conductive systems indoors while you sleep, relax, or work. Connection with the Earth restores a lost electrical signal to the body that seems to stabilize the complicated circuitry of our essentially-electrical body. Our built-in self-regulating and self-healing mechanisms become more effective. There are head-to-toe improvements. Better blood flow. Less pain and inflammation. More energy. Deeper sleep. For Earthing products go to www.earthing.com

Flaxseed Oil/Cod Liver Oil/Coconut Oil/Olive Oil When taken before a meal, the digestive signal alerts the liver to purge bile into the gall bladder and then the small intestine. This increases the body’s digestive capacity and also gently detoxifies the liver. Flaxseed/Castor oil applied externally: This helps to detoxify the area, get the lymph moving and break down congestion. Using this for breast massage is also helpful. For information on the benefits of flaxseed oil please visit: http://www.drchristinehorner.com/25tips.html Breast Health Tip #19

iThroid by RLC Labs is a great Iodine supplement as well and can be found on www.amazon.com ZYPAN/HCL by Standard Process is a digestive enzyme with hydrochloric acid for breaking down the molecules of food to improve absorption and optimal function. There are other options for digestive enzymes if you do not want the HCL (this would apply to anyone with stomach ulcers or acid reflux). Please ask your health care provider for the brand they like. Zypan by Standard Process can also be found on www.amazon.com.

Gall Bladder Flush The GB Flush can be an intense experience. Please have the weekend off so that you can rest and relax during this time. You can also adjust the preparations for the flush to start on a Sunday (instead of Monday) so that you flush on Saturday and have the day to recover on Sunday. Before attempting the Gall Bladder Flush it is best to do the psyllium/bentonite cleanse for 4-6 weeks. Once finished with the GB Flush, resume the psyllium/bentonite for a few more weeks to continue cleansing the toxins that were released during the flush. The Pyloric/Ileocecal Valve release is a great self-care tool to do during this time, it will help to manually flush the toxins. Please see the video for proper instructions for the valve releases. The necessary products can be found at most health food stores. A-F Beta Food is by

Standard Process. This helps with the health of the gall bladder and also reduces the cravings for sweets.

MSM This is a sulfur detox that reduces inflammation and improves your body’s ability to make its own antioxidants. The clinical use of sulfur as an adjunct in our diet is becoming progressively more recognized as an important tool for optimizing health. Certainly, diet is the primary tool for reducing your risk for chronic degenerative diseases. But the practical question becomes, how do you obtain the needed sulfur from food grown in depleted soils? The nutrient MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) is a naturally occurring sulfur compound found in all vertebrates, including humans. MSM is already well-known for its joint health benefits, but it may be important for a whole host of other reasons as well. MSM, which is a metabolite of DMSO, and approved for use in humans, primarily impacts your health by reducing inflammation. It’s widely used as a supplement for arthritic conditions. Like DMSO, MSM also appears to improve cell wall permeability, so it can be used to help deliver other active ingredients. Perhaps most important, MSM helps protect against oxidative damage.
