Addendum #1
The attention of Contractors submitting bids for the subject property at the University of Southern Maine Portland Campus is called to the following addendum to the Request for Bids. The items set forth herein are to be included in and form a part of the bid proposal submitted.
Note: The number of this addendum (1) and its date must be acknowledged on the bid form.
LIST OF BIDDERS PRESENT AT WALKTHROUGH:
Sign-in sheet for bidders present at the pre-bid walkthrough is attached at the end of this addendum.
DRAWING CHANGES:
The following drawings have been revised for Addendum 1:
A9.2 – Door and Partition Types A10.0 – Typical Laboratory Details A10.2 – Detailed Simulation Plans and Elevations
Revisions are clouded and noted with a triangle indicating the revision number. Drawings are attached at the end of this addendum.
ANSWERS TO BIDDERS QUESTIONS:
1. Q - Drwg A9.2, The Doors & Partition Types Details show wood doors but the Door Scheduleshow all doors as AL (aluminum). With no wood door spec I assume all doors are to be aluminum.....correct?
A - Yes all doors are aluminum with the exception of door 401A which is hollow metal.
2. Q - The two F-8 windows are detailed on the frame details, drawings A9.2… and detailed againon Drawing A10.0, Detail 1, as hollow-metal.
A- The F8 windows detailed on A10.0 are correct, those two windows in the control room should be hollow metal so that we can angle the glass in the frame. The detail sections identified on A9.2 are incorrect.

3. Q - Based on detail 1, the wall is a whole bunch thicker than 4 7/7” which is what the wallthickness needs to be for Wilson Partition 487 which is for 4 7/8” thick walls.
A - The wall in detail 1 on A10.0 is 4 7/8". F-8 frame should be hollow metal not Wilson’s aluminum partition.
4. Q - The pair of doors (door #401A) over the two electrical panels are supposed to be painted andblend with the wall to disappear. Currently the door schedule has these as aluminum with aluminum framing.
A – Door 401A should be hollow metal with a hollow metal frame, painted.
5. Q - Door #403, I have the same questions about this entry… how do I make stile and railaluminum door appear to be solid doors, Install smooth, double-faced aluminum panels in lieu of glass? The Architect doesn’t account for this?
A - Correct – install a smooth double-faced aluminum panel in place of the glass.
6. Q - The web address provided in Section 117200 – Medical Headwall Systems does not work.www.wittrockhc.com
A - Witt Rock has gone out of business. Substitute Amico Majestic Series single tier surface mounted headwall as basis-of-design. All specified requirements remain the same.
Q - The control contractor is listed in the spec. Will there be an allowance for this work or will each contractor be required to get a number from I.B.C. They might give out different numbers to different people.
A – No allowance provided for in this project.
7. Q - Any chance that the University can get the permitting process with the City of Portlandstarted?
A - The permitting process is already underway.
8. Q - The specified Carpet is only available in broadloom according to Mohawks website. Please advise.
A – For Basis of design, use Mohawk Power Surge Collection, Wavelength 955 Flow in tile format.
9. Q - Both Forbo and Armstrong are listed as basis of design products in the resilientdivision 9. We are instructed to carry 13” x 13” material (forbo sizes) however the color numbers listed for RT-1 and RT-2 correspond with Armstrong 12” x 24” striations.

A - Basis of design for the resilient flooring to be Armstrong Striations BBT with Diamond 10 Technology Coating Bio-Flooring. Size: 12” x 24”. Colors as noted in the specification.
10. Q - Could you please direct me to where I can find the specifications on the “Large ScaleWall Graphic” which is shown on A10.7 Detail 2.
A – Graphic wallpaper has been eliminated from the project.
11. Q - Is there a specific start date?
A - As soon as possible.
13. Q - Access, laydown space, dumpster location?
A – A laydown area will be provided adjacent to the Science Building.
14. Q - Will Permit application process begin before GC award?
A - Permit process is underway
15. Q - Will classroom next door be active?
A - Yes, surrounding spaces will remain active and noise will need to be considered.
16. Q - Restriction on working hours / off hours work?
A – Normal working hours are expected between 7:30 and 4:00. Work outside normal workinghours can be requested and will be considered on an as needed basis.
17. Q - Is the thickness of the slab shown on the drawings?
A – The existing building drawings appear to show the slab thickness as 5" - V.I.F.
18. Q - Any existing VAV's?
A – No existing VAV’s.
19. Q - Is AV a separate scope?
A - AV is separate and RFP is still out. AV drawings are for reference only.
20. Q - Is there a spec on the graphic wallpaper?
A – Graphic wallpaper has been eliminated from the project.
21. Q - Construction budget?
A - $1.5M including the AV scope and manikins.
22. Q – Can you get any more detail on the Phenolic panels, such as color and thickness?
A – Basis of design is Trespa 3/16” thick, color “Steel Blue” Satin finish.

23. Q – Can I get more details on the solid surface window sills. I would need some dimensions, Icannot tell from the floor plans how deep this is. Also a color for that would be important.
A – The sill in elevation 4 on A10.6 is approximately 2’ deep. The sills in de-brief room 2 and the office are approximately 5” deep and the sill in Sim room 1 are approximately 6” deep. Basis of design for all sills are 1” thick Corian, color “Deep Cloud”.
End of Addendum 1
24. Q - Upon review of the draft contracts provided, it appears both a modified A101 document and Special Conditions for A133 were included with the modified A201. It is our understanding that only one document (either A101 or A133) can accompany the A201 document. Please provide clarification if the A101 or the A133 document will accompany the A201 document provided.
A - Section 00 73 00.03 is to be deleted.
