Consists largely of family correspondence to Richard M. Gano from his family and from hisfather, John Allen Gano. The letters tell of war experiences, notes and interest due, familyand friends ill or dying, business trips and opportunities, school experiences, and churchbusiness and activities. Items of particular interest include a letter from Jesse L. Sewellasking Richard to hold a gospel meeting in Lebanon, TN, and a letter from Louis Loos ofBethany College.

Box 2 -- Autobiography of John Allen Gano, Sr.
This includes 420 handwritten pages of what must have been a longer work -- ours endsabruptly in the middle of a sentence. It begins with his birth and carries on up through1860, highlighting his family and religious life. On page two he states that should anyoneread this work, he prays "that it may prove a blessing to them by leading them to the Rock ofSalvation."

Military Records and Correspondence of Brigadier-General Richard M. Gano. - vol. 1
Volumes I & II (Boxes 8 & 9) are bound volumes of photocopies of transcriptions (about900 pages) typed by John Gano (generation?) in the mid-1970s. The materials withinthese volumes are from a wide variety of sources including books, periodicals, OfficialRecords of the War of the Rebellion; U.S. War Department, and "Personal War Recordof...Gano, unpublished." To aid in future research, a bibliography is being compiled aswell as a listing of dates/events that correspond to the "Personal Records." Thisbibliography will be posted online here as soon as it is compiled.
- This volume covers the period in the Tennessee Army from June 1, 1861 - July 2,1863.

Frank Grimes was a very respected newspaper editor for the Abilene Reporter News.There were several articles written by the colleagues of Mr. Grimes explaining his greatability to write and what a great man he was. The greatest portion of the papers are poems written by Mr. Grimes. There arehundreds of poems ranging in tipics from fishing to war. There are also a few short storiesincluded in the papers which Mr. Grimes wrote and some editorials and essays. MrGrimes also wrote a section for the paper titled "Little Essays," and many of these areincluded in the manuscript. In the manuscript there are a few papers that were not written by Mr. Grimes, but dorelate to him. An example of these papers is the memorialization booklet for R. K. Grimes,son of Frank Grimes, and a letter to the daughter of Mr. Grimes about the death of R. K.Grimes. There are also four volumes of a book titled Southern Kirth and Kin written byJewel Davis Scarborough and personally autographed by the author. The last things included in Mr. Grimes' manuscript are two newspapers, on is a 1924edition of the Abilene Reporter News and the other is a 1921 Abilene Pacemaker.
