3 2018-19 Annual Report
A few words from the Chairman
BIRDS has been working since the last 30 years with the motto-
‘Development through Education’ in this region and has implemented many development programs in rural and urban areas in 2018-19 very
successfully. A glance through its past, and the bottlenecks and challenges it faced to reach this destiny clearly show that its sustained growth has not
been all that easy. It is a proud moment to recollect its present growth facing all the challenges and turbulences. Especially its work with children
with hearing disabilities and infants(0 – 6 years old)with multiple dis-abilities and retarded growth is a very sensitive work and the staff involved in tht
work are to be applauded for their service mindedness, creativity and
dedication.
Likewise the technical and financial assistance of the APD organization of
Bengaluru in this holy work has to be highly commended we are highly thankful to them for their help in our efforts. There are many departments of
the Government, NGO federations like FEVOURD-K, VANI, DNA and others
who have been us as partners in our endeavors and we are thankful to them all. We wish to thank all those who have provided financial assistance to us
during 2018-19.
Our dream has been to establish a Free special school in Bagalkot town to
cater to the educational needs of specially able children in this region. We
thank all the schools that are already supporting the education of such
children in this region. In a nutshell, we have accomplished many seemingly
impossible tasks during 2018-19. The field staff that has made this possible and the Management that has extended a whole-hearted support to them
are to be commended for their efforts.
We also thank all the donor agencies and individuals, Department of Women and Child welfare, Department of Health , Department of Public
Instruction, Department of Senior Citizens and Special able persons, who have been with us all these days expending all the support in our endeavors.

Name of the child: Kumari Rachita Yelligutti Date of Birth: 1/07/2016 Name f the Father: Mr Bheemappa Yelligutti. Education: 10th Standard Occupation : labour Mobile no.: - 9972159487 Mother’s Name: Smt Gurubai Family type: Joint family Kumari Rachita Kins: Sister -1. Ranjita, 4 years¸ Address:-Mr Bheemapp Yalligutti, At post, Bevinamatti,, Taluk and district, Bgalkot
Background: It was during one of the visits I paid to Anganwadi at Bevinamatti village to provide
service, I came across the mother of Rachita, who had brought the child to the anganwadi. The
baby was severely underweight. I advised her to take the baby the district hospital, Bgalkot for
checkup. She told that she has to talk to her husband at home. The Anganwadi worker told that
they had taken the baby to Kumareswar for treatment and they had given some medicines and
advised them to come for follow up after treatment. But even after 3 months of treatment,
there was no improvement in the weight of the baby. I advised her to bring the child to our
assessment centre at Navanagar. They brught the child to our centre on 16/1/2018for the
assessment. The master trainer advised them to admit the child to the N.R.C. we registered the
baby at centre.

Intervention: As per follow up plan, we again visited the house on 12/2/18 and on our
persuation, they admitted the child to the district hospital on15/2/18.
Our staff also visited their house frequently and enquiring about the baby’s medication and diet. Even after 6days of treatment there was no improvement in the weight of the child. After the second checkup, the doctor advised the parents for blood transfusion. The parents did not agree for that treatment. So the diet supplement and medication continued. There was improvement in 15 days. The child Rachit was discharged from the hospital n 3/3/18; now the weight f the child was 7 k.g. 240 gm. They were advised fr next follow up after 15 days. Again the child was weighed on 06/03/18 in the anganwadi centre. The baby had gained further weight. It was 7.8.k.g. I advised them to bring the child to anganwadi every day and get nutrious food and asked them to give ample fruits. The baby had gained about 1.8. kg after the intervention. The parents are paying proper care to the child.
