The Role of Assessment in High Performing Schools

1) Read the Characteristics2) Write down 3 thoughts (each on a separate piece of paper) you have about the role of assessment through the lens of High Performing Schools, Crumple each paper into a ball.3) When you hear Dr. Malone yell SNOWBALL FIGHT you may begin to pummel your classmates with your snow balls and return fire with those they throw at you until you hear CEASEFIRE. 4) Pick up all the snowballs near you until the floor is clean and group in triads for discussion.5) In your triad discuss each statement in your group and select 3 statements that resonate with your group to share with the whole class.

CSIP Principal InterviewAssignment: Interview a current school principal for the purpose of gaining their thoughts and discussing the processes and priorities they use to create a School Improvement Plan as required by state law.  Prepare to present your findings on 9/17.Possible Interview Questions:

Constructing a Data Pyramid

• Read the definitions and types of data including examples on Handout H5.2

• Construct a pyramid on the chart paper that represents the relative time and attention currently given to each of the 5 types of data in your school (Weekly, quarterly, annually, never)

• Write the name of each of the 5 types of data in the most appropriate layer with the widest part of the pyramid representing where you spend the greatest amount of time…the top the least.
