It’s one thing to claim a vehicle has high performance – it’s another to prove it. The

performance credibility of the WRX and WRX STI comes from conquering some

of the planet’s most competitive courses. From 19 years in the FIA World Rally

Championship (WRC), to laps racing on Germany’s famed Nürburgring, Subaru has

learned lessons about high-performance engineering in the heat of competition.

These insights are applied directly to the production of WRX and WRX STI, as they

continually heighten their performance capabilities.

It’s in the blood.

All-around performance you've always desired.

Few cars balance driving passion and everyday enjoyment like the

WRX. It’s perfectly suited for casual trips around town, but at the

same time is ready to satisfy your appetite for performance driving.

It comes with rally-inspired, dynamic styling and a powerplant that

makes every exertion effortless and completely exhilarating. Every

WRX comes with the 2.5-litre turbocharged DOHC SUBARU BOXER®

engine. It benefits from a horizontally opposed layout, which

naturally cancels out vibration and helps balance the vehicle.

Rethink the limit. The Subaru WRX STI combines

power with precision, and razor-sharp performance

with everyday practicality to put it in a class of its

own. It flows from the unique engineering within —

the balance of Subaru Symmetrical Full-Time All-

Wheel Drive and the SUBARU BOXER® engine,

creating an intense harmony of quickness and

control. Drive it and experience all-out, all-around

performance beyond what you thought possible,

because you can trust the engineering inside.

Pushing the envelope.

It takes trust.

5-Speed Manual TranSMiSSion (WrX)The 5-speed manual transmission gives you an exciting way to stay in touch with

the performance the WRX offers. It’s paired with Viscous Centre Differential AWD,

which instantaneously distributes the engine’s torque to all four wheels for intense

traction and control in changing conditions.

6-Speed Manual TranSMiSSion (WrX STi)

With its short stroke, smooth and direct action, and leather-wrapped shift knob, shifting the 6-speed

manual transmission lets you savour every sweep of the glowing red tachometer needle. As you

match revs to extract the most of the engine’s bountiful torque curve, you’ll feel all the performance

potential of the WRX STI firmly within your grasp.

Starting with the thick, leather-wrapped steering wheel with its well-placed controls for

quick access to buttons for vital systems, you’ll instantly appreciate the way the WRX and

WRX STI fit naturally to your hands. Move your hand to the gearshift and you’ll find that it

eagerly grips the comfortable leather shift knob, inviting you to select a gear and launch

down the road. In every curve you'll find that your body is gripped by the deep bolsters

of the sport-type front seats trimmed in Alcantara®1 with sporty red stitching that

support you in active driving. And, because performance driving shouldn’t be a solitary

endeavour, 60/40 split-folding rear seats make carrying people and cargo easier.

It grips you from within.

Keep your profile low and your expectations high.Look inside the heart of Subaru Symmetrical Full-time AWD and you’ll find the engine’s crankshaft, transmission,

driveshaft and rear differential — running in a continuous line along the centre of the vehicle. And, with its

longitudinal alignment and horizontally opposed pistons, the SUBARU BOXER® engine is the perfect companion

to the Symmetrical AWD to deliver a drive that’s both exhilarating and responsive.

SuBaru BoXer® engine

The horizontally opposed design of the SUBARU

BOXER® engine lays the cylinders 180 degrees apart

on each side of the crankshaft, for superb rotational

balance and reduced vibration. Its compact layout can

help lower the centre of gravity of the entire vehicle,

enhancing both stability and driving excitement.

Side-to-side balance, along with a

compact layout and lower centre of

gravity help give the vehicle greater

stability. What’s more, the system

instantly reapportions the engine’s

torque between the front and rear

wheels as condit ions demand,

providing powerful traction for more

capable performance on any road

while the vehicle is in motion.

Si-driVe (SuBaru inTelligenT driVe)SI-DRIVE lets you adapt the driving character of the WRX

STI to your liking. Put it in Intelligent mode for smooth

power and optimal ef ficiency. Select Sport mode for

versatile command of every condition. To extract the

maximum response from the turbocharged engine,

switch to Sport Sharp mode. It gives you the most direct

throt tle response and precise rev control across the

entire rpm range.

perForManCe CHaSSiS and SuSpenSion

The pursuit of performance perfection never ends for Subaru. That’s why the

Subaru WRX and WRX STI feature design enhancements that intensify their

handling prowess. Utilizing the Dynamic Chassis Control Concept (DC3), all the

design elements of the WRX and WRX STI — from their rigid frame geometry

to Symmetrical AWD, which provides fierce traction while helping balance the

chassis — work together to create precise steering and dynamic cornering.

They also feature a suspension designed for a greater connection between

driver and vehicle. After extensive testing, the suspension of the WRX and

WRX STI is stiffer and tuned for greater precision. It features lower arms with

pillow ball bushings2, which increase stability, maximize tire contact and reduce

understeer during cornering. What’s more, the WRX STI is lower for tight

cornering and immediate steering response. With these suspension setups,

the WRX and WRX STI give you intuitive feedback and control that make driving

pure inspiration.

Vehicle dynamics Control SystemEvery WRX comes standard with Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC). The WRX STI takes it further with three selectable modes1 to

offer flexible performance for changing driving conditions. Normal mode fully engages VDC, traction control and the Antilock

Braking System (ABS) for maximum response to detect loss of control. Traction mode raises the intervention threshold of the VDC

and traction control systems, maximizing torque delivered to the wheels. Off mode completely deactivates VDC.

Multi-mode dCCd (driver Controlled Centre differential)2

For more added control, the WRX STI DCCD’s manual mode and three automatic modes allow you to dial in two types of centre

differential locking for ideal traction and agility on any road surface. Starting with a 41/59% front/rear torque split, DCCD adjusts

both an electromagnetic multi-plate transfer clutch and mechanical locking of a Limited Slip Differential (LSD) to apportion the

torque to the front and rear wheels.

active Safety, to avoid a collision. Many of the same features which make a WRX and

WRX STI fun to drive also keep its occupants out of

harm’s way. The stable, responsive handling of its

Symmetrical AWD is enhanced by the lower centre of

gravity of its SUBARU BOXER® engine. WRX STI comes

standard with advanced Vehicle Dynamics Control,

surefooted suspension and powerful Brembo®1 brakes

enhanced with Super Sport ABS and Electronic Brake-

force Distribution. These features, combined with

quick steering, work together to equip the driver with

excellent evasive abilities.

passive Safety, to better survive a collision.

The WRX and WRX STI are designed with occupant

protection as a high priority. Their body structure

is intelligently strengthened in critical areas to help

minimize the impact energies that reach the cabin.

Front SRS2 airbags, front-side and curtain SRS2 airbags

and 3-point seatbelts help protect occupants directly.

Years of engineering for one split second.

SeaTS, SeaTBelTS and SrS2 airBagSHeight-adjustable front seatbelts feature pretensioners

to hold passengers firmly in place, and load limiters that

ease peak forces to the chest. Front SRS2 airbags, front-side,

and curtain SRS2 airbags are standard. And a tether and

ISO-FIX anchors facilitate installation of compatible child

safety seats.

ring-SHaped reinForCeMenT FraMeS

The Ring-shaped Reinforcement Frames strengthen the

passenger cabin from the roof to the doors, pillars and

floor. This design helps to dissipate impact energy away

from the occupants in a collision. The front crumple zone

is integral to the frame.

BreMBo®1 BrakeS

Large and reputable Brembo®1 brakes come standard

on every WRX STI. Partnered with Super Sport ABS and

Electronic Brake-force Distribution, you will feel comfort

in knowing that your drive can come to a stop as quickly

as it took off.

Subaru vehicles are uniquely designed to get out there more—and to leave it out there less. We build our vehicles for maximum longevity because more time spent on the road equals less time spent in junkyards and landfills. Fully 95.4% of our vehicles sold in Canada over the last 10 years are still on the road today.1 you’ll also find very little waste created in the production of a Subaru—many of our vehicles are built in the Subaru of Indiana Automotive, Inc., (SIA) factory, which was the first manufacturing facility in the U.S. to achieve zero-landfill status. Other Subaru facilities around the world now achieve similar goals in helping to preserve the environment. Respect for our surroundings is yet another way that Subaru vehicles help to build driver confidence for the road ahead.

1 Based on R. L. Polk Canada, Inc. Canadian Vehicle In Operation data as of July 2, 2011, for model years 2002–2011. Actual longevity of any car will vary based upon operating conditions.

The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS airbags) affords the driver and passenger additional protection in some collisions. This system provides supplemental protection only, and seatbelts must be worn in order to avoid injuries to out-of-position occupants upon airbag deployment. The combination of SRS and seatbelts provides the best protection in a serious accident.
