By 1860 Baltimore was the third largest city in America and is now the 13th largest. Today, the city thrives around the original port and inner harbor area. Th roughout the Inner Harbor, visitors will fi nd relics of Baltimore’s fascinating maritime history intertwined with a number of contemporary attractions. Th ese include the National Aquarium, Maryland Sci-ence Center, Port Discovery Children’s Museum, the updated Harborplace and Th e Gallery shopping centers. In June 2005 the Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History and Culture opened it doors as the largest museum of its kind on the East Coast. Th e museum honors over 350 years of African American history in the state of Maryland.
