reaching out to parishioners soon.
DISASTER RELIEFE: Prayerfully consider contributing to the disaster relief effort through Catholic Social Services to aid those effected by the tornados in Celina and Dayton and the flooding in the area. We will not be taking up a second collection as Masses, but you can place donations in an envelope (or use the special white mailing labels in your envelopes). Mark envelopes with “Disaster Relief” and drop off at church or place in the collection basket.
MASS IS A CELEBRATION, but it's no day at the beach! While in church, parishioners are reminded to please dress in a way that reflects the dignity of the Mass. Our clothing at Mass reflects our attitude toward Mass. Let's not be too casual about either.
IS GOD CALLING YOU TO HELP? Several ministries at Holy Redeemer are currently seeking help or can use additional members. Please prayerfully consider where you can help. Stewardship forms can be found on our website or on the door to the connector, or you can contact the parish office.

you are assigned to assist with Mass. If you are
not available to help out on a particular date,

The New Bremen Community Backpack PLUS Program provides assistance to students in our local school districts by supplying school supplies and backpacks, assisting with annual school fees, maintaining a “no-shame” lunch fund, and giving discretionary funds to the school as needed. During the 2018-19 school year, we were able to assist 37 students. Holy Redeemer has participated in this program for over 8 years. Donations can be mailed to The New Bremen Foundation (please note your name and “Community Backpack+ Program”), 119 N. Herman, PO Box 6, New Bremen, OH. In the near future, we will also be collecting specific school supplies and monetary donations to go toward school fees – watch for the leaves and envelopes in July in the back of church. Together we educate and serve our community! Please contact Cathi Hall at 419-305-7094 if you have any questions.
DONUT SUNDAY
Next Sunday after the 8:00 & 10:00 Masses
GROWING WITH THE GOSPEL Sharing the Gospel After Jesus was taken into heaven, the apostles spent time in church praising God. Every time something good happens to you or your family, remember to give thanks to God. You do not have to be at church to praise God. You can praise God at home, in the park, or in a store. You can thank God wherever you happen to be. Good things happen to you because God loves you very much. Prayer Lord, help me praise you even when I am sad. Something to Draw Draw Jesus rising into heaven with three fluffy clouds around him. Mission for the Week I will thank God for feet that keep me on the path to heaven.
I would like to thank the members of Holy Redeemer for supporting my Gold Award project. I am truly grateful for your generosity. The supplies drive for Rustic Hope was a success with over 400 items collected!
HOLY REDEEMER GARAGE SALE Items are needed for the garage sale this year. We are accepting items now that CCD is over. You can drop off your items on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday anytime between 9:30a.m. and 4:00 p.m. in the CCD Wing Hallway. On Friday you can drop items off from 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. If you cannot make it during these hours, you can contact either Kathy Pape at 419-953-6420 or Jenny Sailer at 419-953-9474 to set up a time to drop off items. Please do not drop off items in church. We are hoping to make this year even more successful than last year so clean out your house and bring it on over. PLEASE NO TV’S or EXERCISE EQUIPMENT. We will also be needing help - if you are able to help, please contact Jenny or Kathy. Thanks a Bunch!
GOSPEL MEDITATION
What is the most common image you've seen of the Ascension? It's typically Jesus
hovering above the earth surrounded by brilliant light. The Ascension is a beautiful
feast, but it's about more than the distant glory of God. It's about the blessing of God
and the transformative power of trust. "You are witnesses to these things." Before he ascends, Jesus reminds the disciples
of the basic message of the Gospel and of the disciples' own important role. They
are to proclaim the Gospel message by their personal witness to the saving power of
God. "I am sending the promise of my Father upon you... clothed with power from
on high." Jesus promises to equip the disciples for this important mission. Not only
are they receiving a command, but they're receiving the empowerment they need to move. "He... raised his hands and blessed
them." Even now, though the fulfillment of Pentecost is still to come, Jesus gives them a parting gift before he ascends into heaven.
Finally, "They... returned to Jerusalem with great joy, and they were continually in the temple praising God."
The disciples faced an unknown future. Their teacher had left them, and the political and religious authorities weren't exactly
thrilled about Jesus and his growing movement. But the memory of our Father's redemptive love, the promise of the Holy Spirit,
and the blessing of Christ sustained them. Jesus trusted them to
act in his name. They could trust him in return. Do you face
uncertainty in your own life? Remember, we are all called to be
disciples and witnesses. We have received the indwelling of the
Holy Spirit at our baptism. We are blessed by Christ beyond
imagining in the sacraments. This Ascension feast, we too can
trust in God! With this firm trust, we too can return to our daily
lives, praising God with great joy!
MASS SCRIPTURE READINGS & REFLECTIONS
This Week: June 2 – The Ascension of the Lord
First Reading – Acts 1:1-11:
When he had said this, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him from their sight. (Acts 1:9)
Why do you think Luke opens the Acts of the Apostles by narrating the ascension of Jesus into heaven?
Second Reading – Hebrews 9:24-28:
But now once for all he has appeared at the end of the ages to take away sin by his sacrifice. (Heb 9:26b)
Paul speaks of Jesus' resurrection and ascension into heaven as the source of divine wisdom for the unity of the Church. How do
you think Jesus' ascension unifies the Church?
Gospel – Luke 24:46-53:
Jesus said to his disciples: "Thus it is written that the Christ would suffer and rise from the dead on the third day." (Lk 24:46)
The final episode in the Gospel of Luke is Jesus' ascension into heaven. Luke tells us the disciples "returned to Jerusalem with
great joy" on their way back from Bethany, about 1.5 miles away. What do you imagine the disciples talked about on this brief
journey home?
Next Week: June 9 – Solemnity of Pentecost Sunday
First Reading – Acts 2:1-11:
Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and came to rest on each one of them. (Acts 2:3)
The descent of the Holy Spirit onto the Apostles marked the birth of the Church. One
of the initial gifts of the Spirit was the overcoming of language barriers. What gifts
of the Spirit do you think are most needed today?
Second Reading – Romans 8:8-17:
For those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. (Rom 8:14)
Paul speaks of the unifying force of the Holy Spirit in the life of the community. Where
do you see evidence of the Holy Spirit's power to unite believers in your faith
community?
Gospel – John 14:15-16, 23b-26:
"The Advocate, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in my name he will teach
you everything and remind you of all that I told you." (Jn 14:26)In his farewell
discourse, Jesus spoke to the disciples about the Father sending the Advocate (Holy
Spirit) in his name to teach us and remind us of Jesus' words. When do you find
yourself thinking about Jesus' words?

Question: Couldn't Jesus have done more good if he stayed on earth,
rather than ascended into heaven?
Answer: This is an interesting question! During his earthly life, Jesus gave sight to the blind, healed paralytics, drove out
demons, and fed thousands with only a few loaves of bread. Imagine what he could have done if he'd never ascended into
heaven! Imagine what our world could be! It's an interesting thought to consider, especially as the world faces challenges that
only seem to deepen and expand. Yet at the Last Supper, Jesus says, "It is better for you if I go." Why? His response must have
seemed strange to the Apostles at the time. In his place, Jesus says, he will send the Paraclete, the Comforter, the Advocate. He
promises to send the Holy Spirit.
Jesus' departure allows the Apostles to become the leaders he has formed them to be. Jesus is no longer situated in only one
geographical location, and his Church will never be a political kingdom. Soon after the Ascension, we celebrate Pentecost - the
descent of the Holy Spirit and the radical empowerment of the followers of Jesus. We share in that empowerment and in that
mission. Jesus is present in the sacraments, and he is present in us. Through our faith, hope, and love, we are called to be the
good he does here on earth!

The next BOOK CLUB meeting will be Tuesday, June 11, at 6:45 p.m. The book selection for this month is “ALL OF US” by Brian Anderson, foreward by Kelley Anderson. This story narrates the obstacles Brian and Kelly faced, the hurdles crossed, the fears encountered, the tests of faith. All culminates in a family’s desperate and agonizing fight against the injustice thrust upon them by a broken foster care system as a little girl was ripped away from the only family she had ever known - leading to a community rallying in support to “Bring Mandy Home”. From Celina, Ohio, to Seoul, South Korea, from foster care to adoption to an Ohio Supreme Court case, “All Of Us” follows the path that led to the creation of a family and tells a true story of love, faith, and determination to always advocate for what is right for a child, no matter the cost. “All of Us” demonstrates that God always has a plan and is the testimony of a family who, in the most difficult of circumstances, chose to trust God and never give up. Kelly Anderson will be our quest speaker at this meeting. It is open to the public and all are invited.
* Incense will be used at this Mass
