FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT LET US BE WATCHFUL FOR OUR GOD, WHO COMES
TO US
IN ORDINARY CIRCUMSTANCES Perhaps, like Isaiah, we long for God
to perform a breathtaking miracle that would make us sit up and
take notice. Yet, as people of faith, we are called to see God in
the ordinary. Advent gives us the opportunity to take time to pray–
to sharpen our vision of God’s presence in our daily lives.
Jesus said to his disciples: “Be watchful! Be alert! You do not
know when the time will come. What I say to you, I say to all:
‘Watch!”

ST. VINCENT de PAUL SOCIETY As we begin Advent we are called to
“Be watchful! Be alert” as we stand in joyful anticipation for the
grace of Christmas to once again bless our lives. Your gift in the
St. Vincent de Paul Poor Box will help the poor to celebrate the
grace of God’s love this Christmas.
VOCATIONS
Christ will come again! This we have been promised. The same
Christ has called us all to different vocations, and some of these
include Holy Orders and Religious Life. What greater way is there
to honor our Lord and King than by faithfully answering his call.
If God is calling you to a Church vocation, call Fr. Andrew
Lauricella at 847-5535.
ADVENT
Mark the season of Advent by loving and serving others with
God’s own
love and concern.

IT IS GOOD TO GIVE THANKS TO THE LORD
O God, your mercy is limitless and the treasury of your goodness
is boundless.
We give thanks to your gracious majesty for the gifts we have
received.
We look to you for an answer to our every petition; to continue
your kindness and forsake us not, and prepare us
for the reward to come.
Amen

PRAYER FOR RENEWAL In every age, O God, you have called us to be
your
people, to be your Church. In this time, we begin anew to
discern the pathways
that will lead us, your people, to you continue that journey as
we proclaim your Good News, celebrate your saving
presence among us, serve others with charity and justice, and
steward the world you have entrusted to our care. Send us your
Spirit to lead and guide our Emmaus
journey as we commit ourselves renew our church . This we ask in
Jesus’ name.
BIBLE STUDY CLASS
The weather is changing and what better time to curl up with a
“GOOD BOOK!” Our next Parish Bible Study Class will be held on
Thursday, December 3rd, from 7 to 9 pm in Church. Everyone is
welcome!
The monthly 50/50 Split Club is suspended for now.
IN UNEXPECTED TIMES... “What could happen next?” How many times
have you asked yourself that question in the past year? Though we
most often use that expression when things don’t seem to be going
our way, this year it has been an expression of the constant
changes to our world which the COVID-19 pandemic has wrought. But
we might use the same expression to explain our feelings of being
overwhelmed by blessings and good things, when the stars seem to
align just right. No matter what, we can say with certainty that
tomorrow will not go exactly as we envisioned. Our lives are
influenced by so many factors and the world around us is
increasingly complex. Rather than be surprised by the unexpected,
maybe we should expect the unexpected. Living in this manner causes
us to cherish more deeply the gifts we have been given. It helps us
to live in the present and become mindful of those around us. Our
relationships deepen. Our sense of responsibility builds. Our
stewardship way of life finds new meaning and purpose. This Advent
will not be the same experience as last Advent. It remains to be
seen what the coming days and weeks have in store for each of us.
However, no matter what happens, Jesus Christ is there to welcome
us to the unexpected. He will celebrate with us in joy and he will
even feel our pain. You can count on the unexpected, but you can
also count on Him to be there with you. He is now and forever,
Emmanuel, “God with us.” He is the expected in all things
unexpected.
