IntendedUseTheGastro+™Gastrolyzer® is a breathhydrogen (H2)monitor used tomeasurehydrogen levels inexpired breath. It is intended for multi-patient use by healthcare professionals in a clinicalenvironment.IntroductionH2 is generated in the intestinal lumen by bacterial action on carbohydrates in the small or largeintestine.OncetheresultantH2isdiffusedintothebloodstreamitistransportedtothealveoliandthen can be detected in expiratory air. Levitt1 demonstrated the correlation between intestinallumenH2production andH2 excretion in expiratory air. AccuratemeasurementofH2 in parts permillion (ppm) in expiratory air reveals intolerance and/or malabsorption of carbohydrates; orbacterialovergrowth.Operationofthemonitorisstraightforward.AD-piecesamplingsystemenablesend-expiredbreathto be sampled easily and hygienically, using single-use disposable SteriBreath™mouthpieces anddisposablefacemasks.TheGastro+™canbeusedtoaidinthediagnosisofthefollowingdisorders:
