Fresno 4 runs, 7 hits, 1 error Tacoma 14 runs, 15 hits, 0 errors RECAP: The Rainiers scored at least 2 runs in 5 different innings, including a 5-run 3rd inning, as Tacoma defeated Fresno 14-4 on Monday night. Nine of the Rainiers 15 hts went for extra-bases (8-2B, HR). DH Carlos Peguero (4x4, 3 R, 2 2B, 3 RBI, SF) led the team with 4 hits, while SS Brad Miller (2x4, 2 R, 2 2B, BB), 3B Alex Liddi (2x4, 2 R, HR, 3 RBI, BB), 1B Rich Poythress (2x3, R, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 BB) and LF Nate Tenbrink (2x4, R, 2B, 4 RBI, BB, SB) each recorded 2-hit games. Stater Brandon Maurer (5.2,5,4,4,2,9,2HR) recorded his 2nd win with the Rainiers, allowing 4 run on 5 while striking out 9 in 5.2 innings. RH Hector Noesi (1.1,1,0,0,0,1) and LH Lucas Luetge (2.0,1,0,0,0,3) combined to hold the Grizzlies scoreless over the final 3.1 innings in relief. REHABILITATION ASSIGNMENT: RH Josh Kinney has appeared in 6 games with Tacoma over 2 rehab stints, going 0-0 with a 3.68 ERA (3 ER, 7.1 IP). Prior to his rehab appearance on May 17, Kinney had not appeared in a game since March 6 when he was forced to leave a game after two-thirds of an inning with pain on his left side. He is currently on the 60-day disabled list with a stress recation in his third rid on his left side. TRANSACTIONS: RHP Taijuan Walker has been promoted to Tacoma from Double-A Jackson. Walker joins the Rainiers roster with the 7th-best ERA in the Southern League (2.46/24 ER, 84.0 IP). The 20-year-old ranked 1st in the SL in strikeouts (96) and 3rd in opponent batting average (.195, 58x298) and innings pitched (84.0). Also amongst Southern League starters he ranked first in SO/9IP ratio (10.29). He was ranked by Baseball America as the No. 2 prospect in the Mariners farm system entering the season, and was listed as the No. 2 right-handed pitching prospect in the minors by MLB.com. He is scheduled to make his Triple-A debut on today. Walker is currently the youngest player in the PCL this season and 2nd-youngest in Triple-A. OF NOTE: Tacoma owns a 2.5-game lead over Colorado Springs in the PCL Pacific Northern Division. The Rainiers have now owned the top spot in the division for 25 consecutive games. It marks the longest Tacoma has held that position since holding down first place for 41 consecutive games, June 29-August 13, 2010. OF Carlos Peguero has recorded 12 RBI over his last 6 games and 23 in 14 games since June 10. During this 14-game stretch, Peguero is batting .333 (18x54) with 12 runs scored, 5 doubles, 1 triple, 5 home runs, 23 RBI and 9 walks. SS Brad Miller currently has a 20-game hitting streak, batting .386 (32x83) with 22 runs scored, 5 doubles, 1 triple, 5 home runs and 26 RBI. Overall Miller has hit safely in 22 of 24 games with Tacoma, batting .354 (34x96) with 25 runs scored, 5 doubles, 1 triple, 5 home runs and 27 RBI. 2B Dustin Ackley has hit safely in 21 of 25 games with 12 multi-hit games, batting .365 (33x104) with 21 runs scoed, 8 doubles, 2 home runs, 14 RBI and 18 walks. INF Alex Liddi ranks 10th among Tacoma’s all-time batting leaders with 206 runs scored. LHP James Paxton recorded a season-high 11 strikeouts on June 22 vs. Fresno. It marked his 9th career start recording at least 10 strikeouts (last: 11, 5/13/13 at New Orleans). The Rainiers lead the league in both runs scored (467) and home runs (90). Tacoma is averaging 5.98 runs per game this season, and is homering at a clip of once every 30 at-bats. Of those 467 runs the Rainiers have scored, 144 (30.8%) have been accounted for via homers. PCL PITCHER OF THE WEEK: LHP James Paxton was named the Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week for June 17-23. Paxton started 2 games for the Rainiers over that period, combining to go 1-0 and striking out 16 batters through 12.0 innings. He limited Sacramento to 1 unearned run on 4 hits and fanned 5 in a win on the road, June 17. In his next outing, Paxton struck out a season-high 11 batters over 6.0 shutout innings at home against Fresno on June 22. The 24-year-old is 4-5 with a 4.75 ERA (38 ER, 72.0 IP) over 15 starts at Tacoma in his first Triple-A season. He ranks amongst the league pitching leaders in strikeouts (76) and strikeouts and strikeouts per 9.0 innings pitched (9.50). Paxton is the fourth Rainiers player to receive a weekly league award this season and the third to nab Pitcher of the Week honors. Right-handers Andrew Carraway (April 22-29) and Jeremy Bonderman (April 29-May 6) and infielder Nick Franklin (April 22-29) were each recognized by the PCL after producing outstanding weeks earlier this year.

Jackson 1 run, 3 hits, 2 errors Tennessee 5 runs 4 hits, 0 errors RECAP: DH Ji-Man Choi hit a solo home run 2nd inning to give the Generals an early lead, but it wasn’t enough as Jackson lost to Tennessee 1-5 on Monday night. Choi (1x3, HR, RBI), CF Denny Almonte (1x4, 2B) and C Michael Dowd (1x3, 2B) each recorded 1 of the Generals 3 hits, all which went for extra-bases. Starter Roenis Elias (6.1,2,2,2,2,5,2HR) recorded his 7th loss of the season, allowing solo home runs in 6.1 innings of work. RH Stephen Kohlscheen (1.2,2,3,3,1,1,HR) allowed a 3-run home run in the 8th inning. Eight of the 14 runs he has allowed this season are via a home run (5 HR). He has limited opponents to a .221 (19x86), while walking 5 and striking out 13. SOUTHERN LEAGUE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: OF Julio Morban was named Southern League Player of the Week. At 21, Morban is one of the younger players in the Southern League. He's also been one of the best, as he leads the circuit amongst the league leaders in average, slugging perceanted and average with RISP. After going 0-for-2 with 2 strikeouts at Birmingham on Monday, Morban went on a tear with 5 extra-base hits and 9 RBI in his next 5 games as the Generals took 3 of 5 from visiting Mobile. This is the first Hitter of the Week selection for a Generals player since Brad Miller was selected the first week of the season. Lake Elsinore POSTPONED High Desert RECAP: Last night's game between the High Desert Mavericks and Lake Elsinore Storm at Mavericks Stadium was postponed, due to a water main issue. The game will be made up in a doubleheader beginning Sept. 1 at 2:05 p.m. OFNOTE: After allowing 9 runs in his first 11.2 innings with the Maverick, Dominic Leone has only 2 earned runs over his last 19.1 innings in relief (0.93 ERA). During this stretch he has limited opponents to a .156 (10x64) average, while walking 4 and striking out 25. Since May 9, he has lowered his ERA from 6.23 to 3.06. RH Seon Gi Kim has not allowed a run in his last 8.0 innings (4 G). INF Dillon Hazlett has recorded a hit in each of his last 4 games, batting .333 (6x18) with 4 runs scored, 2 doubles, 1 home run and 5 RBI.
