    PCL ALL-STAR GAME : The Pacific Coast League office announced that Tacoma Rainiers infielders Chris Taylor , Nick Franklin anGabriel Noriega , and pitcher Logan Kensing will represent the PCL in the 2014 Cree Triple-A All-Star Game on Wednesday, July 16 inDurham, North Carolina. This will be all 4 players first trip to the Triple-A All-Star game, while Taylor and Noriega were was elected to startto for the PCL. This marks the first season since 2001 the Rainiers will feature four players in the annual contest that pits the PCLs beagainst standouts from the International League. Franklin was previously selected as a Midwest League (2010) and Southern League(2012) All-Star Games in 2012. Taylor was a California League All-Star last season with High Desert. This is the first All-Star Gameselections for both Noriega and Kensing.

    COACHING STAFF : Roy Howell is the 29th manager in Tacoma franchise history. Howell is in his third season coaching in the Marinersorganization after two seasons as the hitting coach at Class-A Advanced High Desert. His managerial resume includes 3 seasons at short-season Eugene (2003-05), 3 seasons with San Luis of the California Collegiate League (2007-10) and one season leading the field staff forthe Road Warriors of the independent Atlantic League (2011). A former first-round selection by Texas in the 1972 draft, Howell logged timein the PCL as a player with Spokane (1974) and Portland (1985), as well as three seasons as a hitting coach with Portland (2000-02).Pitching coach Jaime Navarro , who is entering his 6th season with the Mariners organization, returns to the Rainiers after spending the

    PETERSON PROMOTED TO AA JACKSON : INF D.J. Peterson was promoted from A High Desert to AA Jackson on June 24. In order tomake room for Peterson on the Jackson roster, INF Mickey Wiswall was released from his minor league player contract. In 65 games withthe Mavericks, Peterson hit .326 (89x273) with 51 runs scrored, 23 doubles, 1 triple, 18 home runs, 73 RBI, 23 walks and 6 stolen bases.

    At the time of his promotion, he ranked among the California League leaders in nearly every offensive category, including sluggingpercentage (1st/.615), total bases (1st/168), RBI (1st/71), extra-base hits (T1st/42), home runs (2nd/18), doubles (3rd/23), hits (T5th/89)and average (6th/.326). Since May 8, Peterson leads all minor league players with 57 RBI, while ranking 2nd with 16 home runs. Petersonhit 16 of his 18 home runs with High Desert over 37 games (5/11-6/23). He hit safely in each of his final 10 games with 8 mutli-hit efforts,batting .442 (19x43) with 11 runs scored, 7 doubles, 6 home runs, 22 RBI, 5 walks and 1 stolen base (6/9-23).     COACHING STAFF : After managing High Desert in 2013, James Horner will take over as manager of the Mariners affiliate in theSouthern League, the Jackson Generals. Horner enters his 8th season with the Mariners (2005-10, 2013-current), but second as managersince returning to the organization prior to last season. Pitching coach Lance Painter returns to Jackson after spending the 2013 seasonwith the High Desert Mavericks. Painter enters his 9th season with the Mariners, including his 4th with Jackson (2010-12).
