He was placed on 15-day disabled liwith a strained left quad June 11 (retro to 6/10). Smoak had appeared in Seattles first 63 games of the season prior to missing the gamon June 10. In 63 games, he is hitting .208 (45x216) with 26 runs, 12 doubles, 7 home runs and 29 RBI this season.

    SAUNDERS ON REHAB ASSIGNMENT: OF Michael Saundersbegan his rehab assignment with AAA Tacoma on June 20. In 4 rehastarts with Tacoma, he is batting .529 (9x17) with 5 runs scored, 2 doubles, 1 triple, 1 home run, 7 RBI and 1 walk. Saunders was placeon 15-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation following the game on June 11. He had appeared in 52 games with Seattle thseason, batting .272 (40x147) with 6 doubles, 3 triples, 4 home runs and 25 RBI. Saunders left the game June 6 after two at-bats, and hplayed just one game since (June 10, 0-for-4 with 3 strikeouts). In 16 games from May 16 to June 3, Saunders hit .368 (21-for-57) withdoubles, 2 triples, 3 home runs, 18 RBI and a .391 on-base percentage (1.040 OPS).

    HART ON REHAB ASSIGNMENT: OF Corey Hartbegan his rehab assignment with AAA Tacoma on June 21. In 3 rehab starts w

    Tacoma, he is batting .385 (5x13) with 1 double, 1 triple and 1 RBI. Hart, 32, was removed from May 18 vs. the Minnesota Twins withstrained left hamstring. He was evaluated by Mariners Medical Director Dr. Edward Khalfayan the following day in Seattle, where he wdiagnosed with a grade 2 hamstring strain. In 37 games this season Hart was batting .209 (29x139) with 5 doubles, 5 home runs and 1RBI. He missed the entire 2013 season after undergoing a pair of knee surgeries.

    COACHING STAFF: Roy Howellis the 29th manager in Tacoma franchise history. Howell is in his third season coaching in the Marineorganization after two seasons as the hitting coach at Class-A Advanced High Desert. His managerial resume includes 3 seasons at shoseason Eugene (2003-05), 3 seasons with San Luis of the California Collegiate League (2007-10) and one season leading the field staff fthe Road Warriors of the independent Atlantic League (2011). A former first-round selection by Texas in the 1972 draft, Howell logged timin the PCL as a player with Spokane (1974) and Portland (1985), as well as three seasons as a hitting coach with Portland (2000-0Pitching coach Jaime Navarro, who is entering his 6th season with the Mariners organization, returns to the Rainiers after spending thlast 3 seasons as the Mariners bullpen coach.     CALIFORNIA LEAGUE PLAYER/PITCHER OF THE WEEK: INF D.J. Peterson and RHP Dylan Unsworth were named CalifornLeague Player and Pitcher of the Week, June 16-22. Petersonrecorded 4 consecutive 2-hit games after returning from the All-Star breabatting .533 (8x15) with 3 runs scored, 4 doubles, 2 home runs, 7 RBI and 4 walks. Peterson ranks among the California League leadersnearly every offensive category, including slugging percentage (1st/.615), total bases (1st/168), RBI (1st/71), extra-base hits (T1st/4home runs (2nd/18), doubles (3rd/23), hits (T5th/89) and average (6th/.326). Since May 8, Peterson leads all minor league players with RBI, while ranking 2nd with 16 home runs. Unsworthwas named Californial Leauge pitcher of the Week, after striking out a career-hig batters in 7.0 shutout innings on June 20 at Modesto. It was his 5th win of the season and first since May 21 at Lake Elsinore. Prior to hstart on June 20, Unsworths previous career-high was 9 strikeouts in 6.0 innings set on July 12, 2012 vs. Tri-City with Everett. He is th3rd straight Mavericks pitcher to receive Pitcher of the Week honor.

    ALL-STAR GAME RECAP: The California League All-Stars held a 3-0 lead after 4.0 innings and held on to defeat the Carolina League AStars 3-2 on Tuesday night. DH Gabriel Guerrerowas the lone Maverick on the California League All-Star team. He started at DH and h7th in the lineup, going 0-for-2 in the game.
