CLIPPING

Clipping is new words formed by ommiting

part of a word. The omission is normally at the

end of a word or at the beginning, but it can be

omiited in both of them (in the begining and in

the end of word).

Example omission at the end of word:photograph= photo advertising= ad mathematics= math laboratory= lab examination= exam bicycle= bike microphone= mike pornography= porn

Example omission at the beginning of word:

telephone= phone hamburger= burger necktie= tie omnibus= bus airplane= plane

Example omission in the begin and in the end of word:

influenza= flu refrigerator= fridge
