This is Ines – she’s 1st grader in Italy.
How long is your school year? We started on Sept 10th and will finish on June 6th
How long is the school day? From 8:30am until 4:30pm
Do you eat lunch at school or at home? At school
What do you eat for lunch We have a first course (pasta or rise or vegi soup), a main course (fish or meat or eggs), veggies and fruit. No fried food is served at school.
What subjects do you learn about? Literacy, Math, Geography, Science, Social studies
Do you have co-curricular classes like art and music? We will have music this year
What do the kids like to do at recess? Playing at the playground or in the classroom , chatting or just take a rest
Do you have a playground? Yes
What is your school dress code? No dress code
Do you have any sports teams or extra-curricular activities at school? We have mini-basketball
How many students are in your classes? 20
What grade levels are at your school? From 1st to 5th grade
Do you learn different languages? Yes, we learn English
Do you have a pledge or school mascot? No, we don’t
Do you take field trips? Yes, later this school year
How do the kids get to school each day? By car, by bicycle, walking
What books and technology do you use? We have this year 5 books: math, writing (two books), geography, English
Are there computers in the classrooms? Only the teacher’s one
Do you have holiday breaks? Yes, we will have 2 weeks for Christmas, 1 week for Easter and few public holidays like All Saints Day, Liberation day, the day of the Republic, May 1st
Do you have any class parties or school celebrations? Not yet, but we will be celebrating Christmas all together
Do you have homework? Yes, every Friday
How are you graded? I’m first grader
How many teachers do you have? Three
Does your school have a principal? Yes
What does your school look like? It’s a two-floors building in the city centre – see picture
